1.
The VS Bassamp 100w combo was my first dedicated bass amp. It was like humping a washing machine around and, frankly, a Hotpoint would have sounded better. HH reissues by all means, but forget that one.
Indeed.... there were some ropey products apparently. BassBaby I think could be a winner..... have to make it a lot lighter though....
2. This is from the 80's era...... We may look at these units again if there is interest
3.
Acoustic, Hiwatt, Orange and Ampeg were names in the 70's. Before that you might have used Vox and Selmer and even Wem for bass. I think H/H came later in the 70's I think. Also, Sound Shity were about but no one in their right mind touched them..ditto Simms-watt
H||H Kicked off in '68
4.
I was thinking more of the earlier ones with the luminescent green front panels.
Like these
5. These were 80's
6. We've got a monitor with a powered out..... http://hhelectronics.com/products.php?range=Vector&product=VRM-112A
7. I've heard it..... it's good kit don't get me wrong. But I would spend my money elsewhere if going for a pa system.
8. I'm awaiting one of these presently....... Never thought I'd buy a bit of Behringer kit in my life..... but I've played with this and it's gonna make it's mark in the industry I can tell ya now .
9. Nice Idea...... but for two subs two mid/high and the desk you're looking at £6k........ you can buy some really nice PA kit for that sort of money.
10. Bass chat has become very 'Slappist'. I didn't make the show unfortunately...... but if I did I would have been slapping a lot I'm sure. I don't give a fook if people think it;s a partytrick/sub form of bass playing/Flea, King wanna be..... I've got on of Nigel's albums in my collection by his (old?) band Forever Endeavour.... Really good stuff!
11. The point a lot of you are missing is that they don't just supply the UK market. Some products sell well in other parts of the world than they do in the UK.
12. When I was with the guys from Ibanez Japan a few weeks back they pronounced the I as eye-ban-ezz
13.
Hello all, need a little advice! Following on from the thread about getting a decent PA rig for less than a grand, I thought I'd ask for some advice on what makes up a useful, flexible PA rig. I play in a 5-piece covers band covering everything from Paranoid (soon to be dropped though I think) to All Night Long. We are made up of 1xVox, 1xBV (doubles as a bassplayer too), 1x Bass, 1xkeys, 1xguitar and 1xdrummer. The band have been together for a few months, and I've been a member for just over a month. I've already played two gigs with them and we have another 12 booked in up to June and another few in the pipeline. So we're looking at being quite busy over the summer. At the moment, we use a small, old PA system comprising of two tops (Peavey somethingorothers) for keys and vox and it simply isnt good enough for any room big enough for 50+ people. The drummer has to force himself to play quieter so he doesnt drown everything out! Any louder and the speakers fart out like hell, not very good at all! I'm terrified if we get a good gig in the near future (a wedding or a little festival) and we simply wont sound good enough to impress potential customers. We're quite ambitious aswell; we all want to play week in week out in the future and we want to end up playing large corporate gigs. Because of this, we understand that sometimes we'll need a PA for a large room, and sometimes we'll only be playing in a spit-and-sawdust type room. We were also discussing lighting briefly; is that something worth thinking about right now? So, basically, what makes a good PA rig? Lets say, for arguments sake, we can get £3k together. What can that buy us? Do I need compressors, reverb units, feedback destroyers? How big does a room need to be until we need to mic the drumkit up? And what's the difference between active, powered and passive speakers? Once again, any help gratefully recieved and feel free to throw in any experiences you have. Every little helps! Alex
You should go speak with Ian @ Mercury AV. Not too far from you on Welwyn. He'll give you an honest appraisal of what you need. I'd still go with hiring some kit first so you can get a feel for yourself of what your requirements will be
14.
Surely you're looking for headphones that will represent the sound well, rather than give a 'better' sound? Personally I'd go for Beyer DT770's. I use them a lot for mixing and general audio work when I can't get to a decent pair of monitors. Pretty popular headphones, BBC use them a lot too.
+1 for the DT 770's, outstanding for the money
15. My advise to you would be to find your local PA hire company and hire some kit for the first few gigs. Won't cost a lot and it will give a good insight into what kit you will eventually buy. I see you are in Edinburgh. Have a chat with the guys at The Warehouse. I've dealt with them in the past and they are very knowledgable and have a hire department. Jay
16. can you post a piccy of it please or link
17. Only time I've been nervous has always been in front of close friends and family........ Think it's because they really know me... where as the usual function crowd do not, so I can be who ever I like.
18. I was looking for another...... having to hold fire at present but have bump for a great pedal and decent price to boot!
19. Cheers dude, just seen this..... very useful
20.
Don't get that brief at all...you played a 80's disco set for a Car Wash gig and they deemed that unfitting..?? Sounds crazy to me...and sounds like a lot more behind the scenes. If you had them all dancing and you still go bumped, I'd say there was something else going on. Who didn't perform to the brief..you or the disco..?? sounds like the latter to me. If it were me, I wouldn't give a stuff and would have been glad to be let off the second set, but I assume you would need this gig and this promoter/venue to not want to 'fail/bomb' or however you might percieve it. Move on and survey what damage there may be when you get the fall-out..or not..from this.
You are absolutely correct JTUK and that is how we are handling it. The problem is that the night was a sell out, over 1200 tickets in the end. We publicised it well too on our social media sites and had a lot of people drive from all over the country for the gig, booking hotels etc..... and we couldn't even give them what they paid for. All very disheartening.
21. Confused....... Bemused....... Gobsmacked. Words to describe a fairly big gig we played at last night. Venue was the Watford Colosseum, 1200 tickets were sold for the event. Cart Wash night/70's 80's disco theme. Well we played first set at around 10pm..... DJ continued on..... then informed that we were not to play a second set. No explanation other than they felt that the band wasn't fitting with the theme of the event???? Apparently the management seems to think our set list wasn't in keeping with the disco theme.... Is it just me or are we barking up the wrong tree with these songs? Superfly Turn on Tune In Cop Out Play That Funky Music House Party Ladies Nite DJ Saved My Wife Groove is in the Heart Little L Cosmic Girl Bad Girls Starsky & Hutch That's the Way I Like It Get Down Tonight Get Down On It Move On Up You Sexy Thing Superstitious Disco Inferno Mighty Real Car Wash You Should be Dancing Long Train Running (Moves Like Jagger?) Cold Sweat Sex Machine Sing It Back I Wish Odd seeing as we are a disco covers band. Management of the venue were more than unhelpful. Dj then continued to play the Jam, Wham, Dexy's midnight runners, etc...... it was like walking into a giant Chicago's pub. Any thoughts? Bemused Essex.
When people get sniffy about Mustang Sally, I assume they haven't heard this or
I have to say it still sounds like a pub band!
23.
The Shirt on the left is hurting my eyes.
Hey that is an original 1972 Union Jack slim fit (as you can tell from my gut) cost me a bloody fortune.......
24.
Imagine... or look at the photo! Brilliant!
Busted...........
