1. Eh.... My main gig is 5CATFish (yes that is the official type font for the band.... don't ask!) which is a function unit that specialises in high end Weddings and Corporate. We charge a fortune and manage to get away with it! ;o) We have some world class players in the band (not me I'm poo) such as the ridiculous Craig Blundel and Pete 'Woody' Wood! I'm also involved in a few other projects such as a disco/funk covers act and also work on some hedKandi stuff too.
2. Er.... Mogadon probably!
3.
Depends what you mean by the ''trick''. I had a Behringer tuner which was hopless. But some of their cheap stomp boxes do a job. At £15 a throw, you can't expect something built like a top of the range boutique pedal, and I would be reluctant to use one live. But their Sansamp clone (BDI 21?) has some really good sounds at a tiny fraction of the price of the real thing. I know you can get into the whole copy / ripoff debate, but some of their pedals dop a decent job at a good price.
S'funny.... it was the Tuner I bought..... had a wedding gig and left my usual one at home..... popped into denmark street picked one up for £15. Thought it'd do for the gig..... packed up after the first set...
4. I fell for the Behringer trick once..... never again.
5. Just learnt requests for rehearsals tomorrow - Lies - McFly (Actually quite a good tune too....) Shine - Take That Me & Mrs Jones - (Mickey Buble version) China Grove - Doobies Naive - The Kooks
6.
I have seen and heard this monkey, beaut - top Bump
Is this front or rear ported?? J
7.
A pair of Aguilar 12"s. I was considering 2 of those as an alternative to the UL310 I'm using at the moment...
Thought they may be a bit cheaper though.....
8.
This thread is really intersting...didn't realise how many people were using IEM. I play at a big church (2000 seater Auditorium with top PA) which only use IEM for all musicians. So they have the full pro inear setup...I have a couple of questions for you guys though: 1. any of you guys play a fretless (especially 5 string+) I've been playing with IEM for years so I'm well used to them but I've never been able to hear enough low end to keep my low notes in tune (especially on B string), so even in this situation I have my cab on stage to give me the low end fill, anyone else find this? 2. I've only ever used IEM in this big auditorium situation with a dedicated Monitor mix engineer, I like using IEM but never thought of using it in a situation where I don't get a dedicated mix too...how do you guys work with in ears if you dont get a full dedicated mix with it? I'd be intersted since the idea of using them in other situations is appealing Cheers, appreciate the feedback
I play a 5 stringer..... we switch between the Sennhieser wireless system and the Aviom system depending on the gig and how big the stage is... as far as hearing the bottom end I you really need to make sure you have professionally moulded ear pieces with decent monitors.... The moulds are gonna cost you the money.... you can get decent monitors from about £100 upwards...
9. I used to fire an Akai s5000 from a midi foot controller.... worked very well
10. I think small.... much more professional looking....
11. I'll take it if it's still up for grabs....... have to post though.... you take Paypal or do you prefer cheque?? Jay
12.
This rig used to be mine and I have to say, although I sold it for the same reasons as Jay and I'm very happy with my Markbass rig, I've never quite achieved THAT sound that I hear in my head, since I sold the Eden. My ears, my head and my heart miss the Eden in a big way but my back certainly doesn't. Have a free bump...
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!! Don't be telling me that........... Ohhhhhh what to do, what to do....... This is much harder than I thought....... Hi Chris hope your good mate........ what Markbass set up have you got then and what exactly do you find good about it other than the weight issue TA Jay
13. Sorry guys gonna have to wait a few days on the piccy front as mine has packed up..... doh|!
14. How about a single cut between the headstock and the body....... :brow:
15.
Only if we do gigs in Cardiff. Thanks for your help OBBM and Crez, that info was just the ticket. Have either of you used IEM live? Did you find your ability to lock in with the drummer was affected in any way without a seismic thump for them to feel?
Switched to IEMs (These) a while back and have not looked back since. Takes a while to get used to but with correct mics for ambience it's not too different.
16. What I'm not sure about though is if it's a comms link.... why would you be using S/Pdif..... surely that would be better served on 232/485/USB/Firewire?
17.
I'm considering the IEM option and had a wee chat with my local audiologist who is just around the corner from my office. They can take the molds for me to get a set of custom fitted earphones but I don't know what happens after I have the molds. I remember we had some discussion about this on Bassworld but I can't remember the process. Do I send the molds away to a specialist manufacturer? What do they produce? A set of earphones or a set of plugs that can take ear phones? Do I need a special set of earphones designed for IEM?
You really want to speak with these guys about the moulds and what options are available on the drivers - HandHeld Audio We use these guys all the time and they really know what options are best...... speak to Nick there.
18.
I was reading about VST system link in the help file. They say that no actual audio is going down the SPDIF cable, it's just sharing the processing somehow? I suppose I won't know until I try it.
I see.... if that's the case then I guess the Latency would be minimal.....
19. I would but we are already booked..... Please bear us in mind for the future though Nick.
20.
I'm guessing with the SPDIF connection there won't be any latency unless I get rediculous with my plugins?
Never say...... Never... what you have to remember is that your audio still has to be processed via the software on the other computer..... there will always be Latency.... just depends on how severe it is.
21. Very good..... on ething to bear in mind guys though is the Latency issue.....
22.
Don't bother with Mackie. We've had no end of problems with our sub woofers and wedges burning out. Luckily they've been covered by guarantee but we were being fobbed off by Wembley PA Centre until we started bearing our internet teeth.
Were you using SRM 450's by chance?
23. Are you looking to buy a system??? If so whats your budget and what do you expect to achieve with it. Jay
