  1. Anyone tried these? I am intrigued. https://www.bassgearmag.com/dogal-hellborg-signature-pure-nickel-stranded-core-round-wound-bass-strings-jh171-035-052-072-102-jh1715s-035-052-072-102-120/
  2. I am certain that a passive WAV can make a fine sound. It is not going to sound like this though. I am not saying that negatively or positively. It is just a different pickup system.
  3. Don't get me wrong, I can think of other ways
  4. The machine heads on the OP bass are a bold statement!
  5. I used to put my DB through a Berg 6x10. As Nige Kennedy used to say - monster.
  6. I am thinking of our Carol Service for this year. If we have a "standard" carol service it can be great for believers, but for non-believers they can be in, hear some vaguely familiar songs and readings and just let it wash over them. If we throw something in from the left field then it could turn some heads. I am not looking for a congregation sing thing - it is not as if the world is short of good Carols. I am looking for some features. So, does anyone have any suggestions? This has been suggested. I have not actually watched it yet so make no comment. This is one I have used in the past.
  7. You are making this with robots?!? Proper exciting!
  8. The CLF research models do a good job of that.
  9. It is a truth universally acknowledged that you cannot spell bass without a B.
  10. A link would be handy....
  11. I am loving that XLR socket. It is proper.
  12. I opened up the bass with the Fralins and remebered that their orientation was funky to get the string spacing. Squashing those at and angle and a P pickup into 2 Soapbar cases would not be an option. The string spacing on the bass needing new pickups is the same as this one. But I have exhausted the possibilites so can carry on with no regrets. If only I was this thorough in the rest of my life.
  13. If I was shopping now then I would be looking at this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155255113590?hash=item2425ed0776:g:yykAAOSwjRxjbV2o&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoAKs7wKBsOYuWusEFR5IQ8pb%2F7wL9DT3VgEPGODrEadEkrIQnEbahCBMx%2B2eNIRe%2Fox2csl%2FnAS%2BV8x0Cicd1HaL5sTnFXh5tcAXpUtp22c3DgPl%2BHEF2Idk2QRJmnQQe%2FqVhZPooRxR1Jsn7%2FmEPP6m1hJ3ngB18xmxNmsnGJe6ivVkcUVjiDyOfS9hZ0OOJDXhgn7m0g%2B7tB%2FpGAP6dPQ%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8K67aGQYQ
  14. My son is beasting an M1 MB air with 8Gig of RAM. It will be fine and dandy.
  15. Ho hum. I guessed as much, but was willing my ignorance to be hiding magic truths. As ever, it did not.
  16. As this concept has rolled around in my head, I guess the question I am asking is as follows - "If I whack a multimeter accross a pickup will that tell me if it is underwound, overwound or the other wound?". I have pickups I like. If I could buy them again and use them, I would. But that is not an option so I need to see if I can do it differently. Thanks
  17. Why do I have an Ebay saved search? What is wrong with me? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234779745517?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=9f386ffd4b7f42c38b00ecb3989b05a6&bu=43179471648&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1~1&crd=20221115013200&segname=11021
  18. I had a fretted Omni 5 and it was lovely. If I had a brain I would still have it.
  19. Aha! I see what you mean now. Yes, I had a new neck put on it. I was hankering after a 5 so did the rounds of various shops. Frankly I could not match the money being asked for basses with what I was feeling when I played them. So I had a new neck put on the bass I was given for nothing.
  20. Thanks. Making them is not a huge issue, it is the spec which is needing detail put into it.
  21. I have a bass which has 2 x sopabars in it. One J coil and half a P coil in each soapbar. So I can get the best of both worlds. I am not particularly happy with them and fancy different ones. I have a pair of Fralin J5 pickups in another bass which are very lovely indeed. I approached Fralin to ask if they would do me a pair of similar soapbars but they are not set up to do it. Which is fair enough. So how do I work out what is going on in my Fralins so that I can get something similar made? They were 2nd hand on here many years ago so there is no chance I can work out exactly what they are (5% underwound, normal, 10% overwound etc). Can I strap a multimeter across them and deduce what is going on in them? I am clearly utterly clueless here. TIA
  22. I agree, no need to gild that Lilly.
  23. I had one of those when they came out. I got a truly spectacular sound out of it. Then I looked for another sound and NEVER got the original one again. I was so frustrated I flogged it. But did make a £200 profit on it, so don't feel bad for me.
  24. I am not qualified to offer any opinion. But I feel your pain. That must have been super frustrating.
