1.
I am left wondering if we can start a band of 50+ (age and number) massed (aka overweight) bass players. Not sure about the commercial viability but we can rehearse (prior to the hearse) and enjoy the music
SMV SMV was a bass guitar supergroup formed in 2008. The group's name comes from the first initials of each of its members, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten. The collaboration gained momentum when the three first played together at a concert held by Bass Player magazine in New York City in 2006, where Miller and Wooten joined on stage to present Clarke with the magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award. SMV's debut album, Thunder, was released on August 12, 2008, with a supporting world tour beginning the same month. - from Wikipedia [s]...If I can remember where it is I have a clip of an 11 piece line up of bassists, stand by[/s] @ 3below, I can't see why not
 2.
How many adverts for 'all female band seeks...." Hmmm getting trickier positive discrimination is allowed i guess you a bigot??
My neighbour's daughter across t'road is a drummist. There must be an age gap of about thirty years between us. I mentioned that I was looking to jam and asked if she was interested. Already knowing what the answer would be, she said was already in a lesbian punk band but thanks anyway. She did promise me a CD however. The band folded a little after that unfortunately and I never got the disc. Aw. My disappointment was that her band didn't last the course. I have no problem with being rejected on the basis of age or sexuality. Why would I?
 3.
So are you a bigot??
Bigot = "a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions" Probably yes at times. I usually keep my feelings to myself unless I feel threatened by said opinion. I think we all are to some extent. The thing is, do you choose to make it someone else's problem as well or recognise that you are just one amongst many others. If the latter it is probably best to compromise.
 4. Um. Not sure what to say now... Hahahahaha

 6.
Pete Townshend. I couldn't remember how to spell his name hence the 'lead guitar geezer'. He was using a pad quite conspicuously.
[Whooooooooosh!] Right over your head my friend. Maybe I should've used a smilie... nah... hate 'em. Heeheehee. Pete Townshend is one of my stagecraft heroes.
 7.
I am an old luddite and seldom actually click links! (grin) Sorry!
No need to apologise for your age, there are lots of young Luddites here too you know.
 8. When I sang with the local choir, I'd have a crib sheet with the first words of each song as already mentioned above. I hardly ever used it but writing it out before the engagement helped me prepare mentally. I am not sure I'd have the same benefit from a tablet but have yet to try for myself. I have no real gigging experience other than from my twenties when we made our own stuff up. It was awful and therefore very easy to remember.
 9.
Last time I saw The Who that lead guitar geezer had one.
I NEVER saw the late John Entwistle use one. What are you on about? Joshing.
 10.
According to my bandmate, he uses a PageFlip Cicada -- I don't know if that model is still in production though. There are other PageFlip pedals and similar stuff from other manufacturers here.
Many thanks Rich. PMd yer.
 11.
There's a difference?
Shhhh! Keep it to yourself, there might be muggles here.
 12. No need to apologise. Cheers anyway.
 13.
Not sure what you mean....
Every time she moved it sounded like someone groping a load of balloons in a bag... Jules had to play to cover it.

 15.
Hitting strings with drumsticks: a.k.a. showing off.
Showmanship surely?
 16.
Google "big noise from Winnetka" Nothing new under the sun. When I saw the title, bearing in mind the season, I envisaged a rather greasy thread....
The link for that is already in post #1
 17. Fantastic musicians these guys .
My mate calls it lift music but I just kick him in the slats and tell him not to harshen my buzz. I lost both my vinyl and four track versions of Surprise Surprise a long time ago. A month or so back I downloaded a live performance and cranked it - hard. Lovely noise.
 18. I've got some Tony Levin clips earmarked for later. Thanks.
 19. Erm, I never said I hated the TR808. I just don't like the dink or cowbellish sound because it was overused at the time. Joy Division/New Order were the model our band was moulded to. The 303 and the 808 therefore are okay by me. The 606 however, is a bit crappy but I own one anyway. I am not down with the kids. Sorry. I never will be. "hater" that's not meant to be as harsh as it comes across is it?
 20.
No 2. don't post on Bass Chat when you and your wife are drunk.
Don't tell me you're the first Basschatter of 2017 to be breathalysed and found guilty of being intoxicated in charge of a keyboard. Heeheehee.

 22.
I shall try to come along. Will bring my Wal and Warwick and hope to try some amps out in return. Double basses too? or is this a purely electric bash?
Why not? I brought my fretless electric to the Double Bass Bash last October. Didn't use it but wanted to be prepared. See you there?
