7.
I've had a DHA VT2 and currently own a VT Bass. I use the VT to get an Ampeg sound out of a clean amp / PA, with just a hint of drive. I'm not a fan of using it as a distortion pedal really, it sounds far too compressed with the gain pushed. Another good thing about the VT is it makes the Mammoth sound amazing, it really brings out the low end and tames the fizzy highs. The DHA is VERY nice at low gain grit and has a certain 'sheen' to it that sounds yummy with a fresh set of strings. However I would steer you towards the Barber LTD Silver for sale in the classifieds right now - if I weren't about to build myself one I would have bought it already! One of the best bass ODs going.
+1 Also my thinking on eq sections on dirt pedals (its pretty much stating the pbvious though ) is manufacturers put them there so you can fine tune your sound/ create a different sound with the pedal engaged and to counter any low frequency loss that may or may not occur with the effect engaged, if you want the same sound as whats going in you dont have to tweak the EQ section If your not wanting to have any tone controls the the catalinbread hyperpak gets my vote for distortion, as to my ears it sounds wicked on bass and doesnt loose any lows, for OD I'd say a DHA Purist is a good bet from personal experience.
8. Just picked up Jamie's Hughes & Kettner 4x10, nice bloke and a pleasure to do business with. cheers mate
9. ha I knew it lol, I'm mates with Bob and his band ( I used to be in a band with the guitarist) I drove past with the missus on sunday would've popped in but she wasn't well, small world eh Braw wee rig you've got there as well
10. your gig wasn't at the port brae in kirkcaldy by any chance?
11. the Aguilar Tonehammer is pretty good as a dirt box due to its 3band eq + sweepable mids. its one to considder but then again so is a modded digitech bad monkey, an owen gremlin. best to cast your net wider if its just a dirt box your after

14. here's one of my RS924 Roadster, plenty of mojo, sounds awesome in passive mode a definite keeper sorry for the crappy photo
15. Preamp sold BUMP power amp still here
16. I only use 4 pedals at the mo including a tuner so it would have to be them Boss TU2 - Aguilar Tone hammer (used as an overdrive) - modded EH USA big muff (for heavier fuzzier parts in songs) - cheap digital delay for more ambient parts I'm a heavy pick player as well so no doubt a compressor would be the other one I'd add into the list
17. Hey folks, with the imminent arrival of a new amp the time has come for me to clear out my old set-up. my dha vt5 preamp/overdrive unit NOW SOLD [s] full spec here: linky there is also a review in the reviews section IIRC Now, I've had this for a while now and its had a few gremlins which had been sorted out although there are still a few which have resurfaced. the boost pot on the red channel sometimes doesnt work but after a few taps/twists of the knob its fine, the eq switch on the red channel causes the sound to drop out drastically when switched on (it could be a dodgy/weak solder). The blue channel has a similar gremlin with the boost pot although the eq section works fine it sometimes mildly distorts until you tap/wiggle the treble pot again this could be as simple a weak/dry solder. All the issues aside its still a cracking sounding pre and is versatile as it lets you have two instruments plugged in and each channel set up for each instrument. I'm looking for £100 inc £15 postage for this with the footswitch as to be honest I don't know how much it would cost to repair fully but considering it was £600+ new I dont think its a bad price even with a repair bill on top of it [/s] [s]i also have a Peavey PV1500 power amp for sale which is in good nick with some rack rash on the rack ears but is generaly in good condition and like all peavey stuff is built to last specs are IIRC - - 300w @ 8ohms per channel - 500w @ 4ohms per channel - 750w @ 2ohms per channel - 500w @ 8ohms bridged mono - 1000w @ 4 ohms bridged mono I'd be looking at £150 posted for this, its a bit heavy at about 18.5 kg (isn't all peavey stuff though) both Items will be well packed I also have a 4u rack that I can include with either the pre or power amp for an extra £20 [/s] NOW SOLD!!!! anyone want more pics/info gimmie a shout
