1.
those look really nice in person, the photos don't do it justice at all! good luck with the sale mate.
It's not mine, my squier is a different finish and comes with a case! Just thought i'd let y'all know cos it seems like a real bargain
2. Probably shouldn't post this as my Squier is for sale here for more..... Really nice Squier standard in a gig bag for £99, £10 postage? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Squier-Standard-seri...id=p3286.c0.m14 Seems like a bargain to me... can only imagine what they paid for it!
3.
The details say that they are buzzing around the 8th fret. There was no mention of a truss rod in the details. My thought was that a classical guitar for £17 including p&p is cheap, but probably only for people who know what they are doing so that any problems can be fixed.
I've played classical as a side to bass for 8 years (i'm still rubbish!) and have found that most cheaper classicals have no truss rod due to the strings not putting on as much pressure, this is why idiots that put steel strings on em often end up with completely ruined guitars. I got my main classical from oxfam in sheffield for the princely sum of £25! It had steel strings on it (well 2 steel strings...) and needed a lot of attention. Had it up and running within a week and it's actually got really stable over the years. I picked it up the other day and it had stayed in tune for over 2 days! Did some research and found out it's a Finnish made guitar from the seventies Another thing is that most cheap classicals buzz above the 8th fret and are very hard to play above the 5th! If these guitars have decent fingerboards (as opposed to painted ones) they could be ok
4.
Hey Steve! Good choice on gettin Hartke'd up! There's some Hartke bargains goin in the [topic="28035"]For Sale Threads here[/topic], [topic="25107"]and here![/topic] Glad to have a guitarist on board too, you'll be able to get into some quite, erm, interesting debates Take it easy, Phil
Cheers for the heads up! And welcome on here, the best bass forum by a mile!
5. Those classicals look extremely good value! From the state of the boxes in the pic looks like they were damaged in the post.
6. BUMP for pics! Finally had half an hour spare (just about) so nipped in the guitar shop and got pics
7. I love Jazz basses but wouldn't buy a Fender, purely because i'd want more value for money! Also haven't got on with scratchplates as i need more room for my thumb (i've got fingers like pigs' t*ts). For me the most desirable body shape is either a Tobias or a Warwick Fortress. Different and exotic but not OTT. Would never have a P, if i'm still playing when i'm 60 i might fancy one but who knows!
8. Looks exactly the same as an old Shine 6er i had (£120 new from cash converters), even the fugly headstock. My shine had a really nice see-through cherry finish though Kinda like this........... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Shine-6-St...id=p3286.c0.m14 The preamp was (obviously) terrible though and the pickups sounded like their output was way too high, took a lot of tweaking for the bass to behave itself and even then it was a farty sound i had no real use for. Ebayed it for £90! I do like the thru-neck one, like a Tobias only more suited to my current budget!
9.
ooh, I've got a natural (aka badly stripped by the prev. owner) steinberger headless fretless if you want? it's probably worth about £2.50, but I'll happily trade you! I'd love to have that all, but considering taht when I played a local beer festival the other week with just my 2x15 and 4x10, my parents could hear me 3/4mile away and I wasn't pushin it...with ANOTHER few cones I recon I'll be able to play in a different county to the rest of the band and still be high in the mix!
I'm actually allergic to headless basses, sorry! Every time i see one i come out in a rash and get all queesy! A Warwick fortress or a Tobias would be nice................
10.
GAH!! I want the amp&cabs to go with my current stuff to make this one monster, mondo, bi-amped 5x15, 8x10 behemoth that'll level the walls of Jericho! But alas, Mrs PTB went shopping in Paris, so i can't afford it now When I win the Euromillions on friday, if you've still got it, I'll take the lot
Holy mother of p*ss!!!!!!!! Are you crazy?!?!?!? I toyed with the idea of taking the stack to a gig with the 2x15 (powered by my LMII) for a 7 foot tall, 1000w mega hartke experience! That would have been 3x15 and 4x10! Fully brown noise capable i'm sure...................... I'm also considering trades for basses........... don't need any really but if someone had a natural finish beaut then i might not be able to resist! EDIT: If you do buy it make sure to take a pic of the uber rig, also some shots of bemused band members!
11. How much for cash sale and postage? Also have a Boss chorus pedal (not the bass specific one but sounded bob on when i used it) i might trade
12. I just about got my RD Artist into my Warwick rockbag, was a snug fit but not so tight as to pull on the machineheads
13.
yes, I'm in the market for one now. Can we see some pics of the routed pickup area you mention? I like the idea of the walnut finish
It's just the pickguard that's been trimmed, no actual routing has taken place on the body! I might even include a wood scratchplate in the sale (if it fits....) so shouldn't matter if that's your bag Was thinking of keeping this until i bumped it, if i get more interest i'll liberate it from the guitar shop where it's currently on sale and get some proper pics up. It's a really nice bass, hope it goes to a good home! Off gigging now, will answer any questions tomorrow unless i come in drunk and switch the computer on! (expect spelling mistakes btw).
14. So it's a shouting contest you want eh? IIIIIIMMMMMMMMM WWWWWWIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy birthday though dude. I'm quite lucky, the guy at my local guitar shop is an ex pro and always sets up guitars before selling em. He sets my warwick up for free every time cos i bought it off him, did the same for my classical because he loves fiddling about with classical and spanish guitars and even offered to set my squier up for free when i had him change the pickups. He's a genuine enthusiast though, not like a lot of the money-grabbing clueless snakes that run most music shops. Of course the flipside is that he runs a very small shop that doesn't get the bass porn in that other larger shops sell

18. I actually really like the honey violin finish, my favourite rockbass! Before they released the rockbass fortress the originals could be picked up for small money on occaision, i saw a lovely old battered one go on ebay for peanuts a few years back (when i had no money ). Now everyone wants em! Still laugh every time i do a search on ebay and that german shop has 3 of the flashback ones, the first one didn't sell so why list 2 more? Anyways, back on topic! Btw, if anyone has a fortress they might like to swap for a fretless warmoth jazz i'm starting to get GAS again.......
19. Jesus, £170 posted?!?!?!?! Wish i'd seen this............
20. Apologies if you already know this! The album track was recorded with 2 bass tracks, one slightly after the other. You can get a similar effect live by altering your picking and using one delay so you get the galloping sound but i never managed to get the "bass chasing the bass" sound (hope that makes sense!). I can imagine using 2 long delays live would be very difficult to set up and could easily end up sounding horrible! If you make any progress let us know!
21.
yeah sorry man, I didn’t mean to jump on you like that. I’ve got a bad habit of possibly going a bit over the top when I’m trying to get what I'm attempting to explain across to other people That really surprises me. My 4 string version sounds like a good passive version of that classic Warwick sound. I owned a budget P before owning the Warwick and the step up in quality was the difference between an X Factor reject and a multi-platinum selling recording artist…incomparable. Deffo agree with you though about getting a decent Corvette Standard for this sort of cash, there’s usually a few around.
I just didn't like the nasal sound it produced, didn't suit my Hartke gear at the time. Didn't even sound good through my little combo (which is very flattering to most basses!). Also found the low B a little flappy and indistinct. Later used an OLP which was a much better 5er IMO Maybe i only like active Warwicks! I guess i was just dissapointed that i was expecting a fatter (with the humbucker) version of my Corvette and it fell well short. Horses for courses an all that though!
22. As far as basses go i'd say Squier Standards are hard to beat. All advice so far has been sound, esp. the bit about a knowledgeable mate (paritcularly where second hand gear is concerned)! It really helps to have someone who can spot faults you would otherwise have missed, buying second hand has drawbacks as well as advantages. I bought my first bass from cash converters and got well and truly robbed, i wish i'd have had someone to guide me in the right direction! Also, even though i really don't like ashdown gear, i'd have to say if i needed a loud little combo for gigging and rehearsing and didn't have much dough i'd plum for an electric blue 15"
