1. Ah i thought it would just be the same model. If it's anything like the one featured on the site this has surely got to be an absolute steal. The Stagg and Thomann ones are over £300
2. To be fair i clicked on the link, then clicked on the EUB and got a detailed description with good pics. Not too taxing even for me on my day off!
3. Are guitar village still out of stock? The were doing them for £76 delivered a while ago
4. Looks like a Wal made by a blind man!
5. Going a bit (more) OT, but just to put things into perspective: We did a wedding recently for £500. Turned up, set up, easy. DJ walks in and asks straight away if he can use our PA. We say no so he uses the hotels rig. After messing about with crackly leads (all through the house PA, so loads of loud popping and generally not-very-pleasant sounds, for about half an hour he asks us to cut our soundcheck short so he can continue to mess about. Eventually, as guests were starting to arrive, our guitarist (professional sound engineer) had to help him set his CD player up as he didn't know what he was doing. Later found out he "earnt" £300, couldn't even be arsed to bring his own PA Think we're in the wrong trade?
6.
When we first started doing the social clubs we were getting more than we were in pubs at the time. After a few months we started asking for a bit more and for about 4-5 months got no work, from any off them. These were all through an agent and he did warn us that the clubs pay peanuts but there are loads of band that will do them if we don't want them. After a few months of doing nothing we agreed to go and do them at the going rate. So that was another situation where the band either take it or leave it. We know of at least one 10 piece band that also play the same clubs and they get the same money as us. They do costume changes, the full works. As they said to us at the time, they are working 7 days a week doing this. If they turned down the gigs they don't eat. I'm just glad I'm only in a 4 piece band.
Too true. A venue near me will only pay £300, fine for a little pub but this place is a big modern venue that makes a killing every night (restaurant upstairs, club downstairs). Felt a bit guilty telling them to stick it when there's an 8 piece band on every month who never complain Still, they should get a proper job!
7. There was a recent thread about this with loads of good info on Try MXR M80 or EBS Multidrive Here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=50492
8. We go out for between £500 and £800 for a wedding, sometimes more depending on distance. Thats enough for me and the guys (usually works out at £125 - £200 each. I'm happy with that as we usually have fun, we all enjoy playing and don't do it for a living although we can all play to a pretty high standard Horses for courses i guess
9. As someone who lives in Blackpool and knows a few people who worked for TVR (before it was taken over and they sacked everyone) i'd say keep the basses. They'll last a hell of a lot longer than the car!
10.
It's a Korean built DB95. They are generically referred to as "Tropical" basses because they were built in the period when Dean guitars was owned by a company called Tropical Music. They were manufactured between 1991 - 1996.
He's right! I had the 4 string passive version of this (there was an active and a fretless version IIRC). I paid £90 for it, lost the backplate then sold it for £45 and 5 sets of Elites. WIN! Mine sounded pretty poor, had the same forearm rout and (very badly done) inlays. I've got an old bass book with the model numbers in, can fetch it if required I've not since seen inlays done as bad as on my old Dean, more filler than wood!
11. Haha, the reason i flagged it up here is because I don't have £200!
12. That Jazz 75RI looks sweet as a nut! Me likey!
13. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=51529 Rockbass Corvette SE £200 ono. Sounds like a deal to me!
14. Duff McKagan uses a Marshall guitar amp for at least part of his sound IIRC? As does Lemmy, although whether you want to punch pencil holes in your speakers is another matter!
15. I was thinking of these gear4music ones, cheapys will do me. I'm not about to gig it just yet (it's too big and i'm lazy) plus i don't have £100 to spend on strings at the moment (or ever!) http://www.gear4music.com/Woodwind-Brass-S...size-by-G4M/81N
16. This one is going back tomorrow, the guy from soundslive seemed to know his stuff, straight away confirming "you seem to have a definite problem then"! Bit gutted as i was really digging playing it, plus it's nice to look at too! What's up with yours bythesea? I heard the scare stories on TB but it was between this and the Thomann one. The Stagg seemed more practical and more folk on here use them
17. Sent it back although they don't have any on stock at the moment. Might just get a refund if it's gonna be ages Apart from that it actually seems really well built, considering it's the cheapest EUB around at the moment it's a real bargain. Plus from a distance it looks like graphite and ebony!
18.
Don't expect a Rockbass to sound much like a German Warwick. They're made of a different body, neck and fingerboard wood where a lot of the Warwick sound comes from. That said - they are good basses .
The Rockbass Corvette Active i tried sounded pretty close to my German Standard. Just make sure you get an active one though! I didn't like the passsive ones i tried Keep an eye on eBay, there should still be plenty of old German Corvettes going for up to £400. I flagged one up a while ago that went for £276 i think. Similarly i saw an Active Fortress go for £380
19. If you could live with a lined pau ferro board then my Warmoth Jazz is now up at £410, less than half the cost of the parts new. You could always just buy a different neck for it and flog the old one
20. Yeah i thought that would be the outcome! Never dealt with them before though but as i ordered this online on Sunday and received it today i guess they're on the ball
21. I received my Stagg EDB this afternoon, after a quick play i'm very impressed, seems like a bargain. But.... The strings seem too far over to the bass-side of the fingerboard. The nut and bridge seem to be cut ok so maybe the the neck is at an odd angle? Or is it meant to be like that? It's my first upright of any kind so i have no idea what i should be looking at! One thing that did make me suspicious was that Soundslive sold this at £299 as a "last one" deal, all the other Stagg EDBs were £349. Now they are selling this colour at £349 too, so maybe they wanted to get rid of this one? Thanks in advance for any advice and information! Steve
22. How do you build a single-pickup passive generic bass for £1700? Either he's telling a little fib or someone's ripped him off. Either way, what an idiot!
23. I'm also strongly against this, and lefty players in general. They'll be wanting to vote next!
24.
Booths of Bolton have got a new Stagg in at the moment, slightly over your budget at £425 though
Cheers bud but I've found a brand new stagg for £299 so I'm going with that. Was on offer from soundslive as was the last one, should have it today or tomorrow Ta Steve
25. If that had been on here this morning it would be at my house now! Unfortunately i'm in the middle of a purchase, absolute bargain though!
