I got this when i bought my Xbox360, the original owner made the mistake of tilting the console on it's side whilst the disc was spinning and it scratched. He said it wasn't working and besides he had bought a replacement for it which i now have. I tried this in the Xbox today and it works, i'm not sure if it'll start crashing later in the game or if it's fine as i don't really play my Xbox. Blockbuster video will put it through their cleaning machine for about £6 - £7 and it should be fine if it is broken Has all the maps, manual and case. Best of all it's free!

I guess if you look at the work that goes into the higher end Warwicks the cost makes a bit more sense, after all a Fender is basically a bolted together slab bodied instrument with a forearm and belly schamfer, selling for nearly a grand. Warwicks have all the nice curves and rounded edges. Mind you Warwicks are mostly machined now aren't they? I think the Infinity deserves to be pretty pricey, it can't be easy to build what with the cavities and f-holes I remember a thread a while ago where a BCer took the scratchplate off his MIA Jazz to reveal a clumsy pickup rout which went all the way through to the control cavity. I think that's more shocking on a £900+ instrument than anything Warwick have ever done. Whatever they cost they're extremely well made basses and i doubt any corner-cutting like that happens
-
They've been going for £200+ on here and eBay, even the double pickup ones are around £250 In fact i think one sold on here for £180 recently? Worth it just for the neck!
hmm probably means they're looking to move up the price of the German made 'vettes! buy now!!
You can still get the German Corvette for under £600, i'd get one while you can!
-
Didnt you have a corvette once...?
Yeah i want that back btw! Text me and let me know when you're next in Blackpool, i'll come and meet you unless you fancy bringing it down to Cleveleys?

Aye welcome! What's that bass in your avatar?

It seems Warmoth might do one... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72457 It's worth having a look in your local music shop, the one near me usually has a few in
I guess it makes sense to do that although not sure thats the best move for them. Surely putting the price up say £100 and then bringing in another cheaper korean model to help cover costs may have been a better move.
That's what the Rockbasses are for! It puzzled me too, then made me glad i bought my Corvette years ago for under £600 Anyone know the prices of the new Rockbass line? The Rockbass Corvette Premium is coming in at £525 so hopefully the Basic model will be around £400. The new 2010 model looks really good, from the front it looks just like a German 'Vette

Ideally you'll want to test them out in a gig situation, or at least go and see a bass player using one live. Even if you can try a Berg in a shop it's still worth giving it the once over at a gig, after all we're talking comparatively pricey gear I loaned mine out to a BCer a while ago (he left his Aggie cab with me) so he could get an idea of how it would sound with him playing his gear in his band
-
All my leads are good quality stuff, my instrument leads are a mix of obbm and my home made ones, all Van Damme cable and Neutrik connectors I think the guy thinks that it's entirely my fault, before i moved in 2 years ago he could listen to his radio without fault so i'm obviously it must be down to me, despite all my gear being high quality and up until recently being used to play weddings etc.

Markbass head purchase - advice needed.
lemmywinks replied to absolutpepper's topic in Amps and Cabs
There's a very nice EA head in the for sale section, good price too http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73826 If that doesn't float your boat then a LMII all the way -
I also need to get to some replacement knobs for the control as it doesn't come with any - where is a good place to get some - I don't care what make they are as long as they are reasonable quality and very cheap. I don't really have any money to spend on the project at the mo' so cheap is good.
I get cheap ones from eBay, usually cheapest to buy a set from Hong Kong. Also keep a look out on the for sale section here, there's usually a few bits and pieces on there especially as people tend to swap chrome ones out for black/gold etc.
Schroeder cabs are loud and have their mid hump, which lets your bass cut through the mix, but because of this design they are bass shy.
You hear this quite a lot about Schroeder cabs but it's not true. Usually people assume because they pump out a lot of low-mids that they are lacking in the bass, not so. There's loads of clean bass on tap, plus a ton of mids if you want them Everyone who has heard/played through my rig comments on the amount of low-end coming out of such a small box
Thing is, if they're moving from 100w valve power & 4x12s to under 50w and 1x12, a fair question to me would be "then why are you moving to 450w & 4x10s?" I think know the answers: 1. Valve power is very different to solid-state power. 2. Although low frequencies are less directional than higher frequencies, they don't travel as well as them, so as the frequencies being amplified go lower, the power required to do the job has to increase. Witness the common PA practice of 2/3 of a system's power going to the subs and 1/3 going to the mains - that's what we're doing: 3000w to four 1x18" subs and 1500w going to the two 2x15" mains. 3. The footprint of the TVX410 isn't hugely bigger than a 1x12 guitar combo. If you guys can add anything that I've left out, please do. On the stage cloth, where do I go to read more? Sounds interesting. Mark
Here's a few: Bass players need a powerful amp with loads of clean headroom. Guitarists need to drive amps and speakers. I can turn my amp right down and it will sound the same albeit quieter, when a guitarist turns down the sound changes. We need larger cabs to get the low end, not to make us look cool Trust me, once they've used a high class small valve combo the Marshall stacks will be gathering dust! Realistically, bassists have always had to adjust to other musicians, we rarely dictate the onstage volume levels. EDIT: Btw, the Orange amp i mentioned can still go very loud, it's by no means a compromise really. I think guitarists sometimes have trouble with the small box = big volume thing, almost like they don't want to accept that their beloved stacks are redundant
Oh and did you guys know the corvette standards are now part of the "pro series" made in korea? Yep, no more german made corvette standards.
I didn't know they're made in Korea, so it's basically a Rockbass but with Ovangkol and Ash/Bubinga now? Don't quite understand the logic behind that, especially as the new Rockbasses look great
-
If you play in a loud band and want a single cab solution then the Schroeder should be on the must try list. I have no experience of the Berg but my 1212r has done big stages (Empress Ballroom in Blackpool) with a LMII and has never been lacking in output. For a cab of that size it puts out silly amounts of volume They do have a mid hump but that's something i like. I look at it as a cab that sounds great and can put out a ton of low-mids if you tell it to. With an Auralex platform it's even more articulate I don't think it's lacking in any other areas, it just seems really good for ballsy loud bass playing I guss the only way is to borrow both for a couple of gigs and see which one you prefer
-
I'll try that, sounds like a good plan My computer is usually on and there's a dimmer switch in the room although it's not on during the day for obvious reasons. Might have a word with the landlord next time he's here as there's definitely something up with the electrics in the house, even if that isn't the cause of this particular problem
So . . . if the guitarists did downsize to something like decent 50-60w 1x12" valve combos (maybe even on angle-up stands?), and the drummer made efforts to reduce his volume (playing dynamics, damping/muting, etc), what would be an appropriate bass combo for me? I'm thinking that if we did this, our current monitors would probably fulfill their responsibilities comfortably. Mark
Seriously man, Orange Rocker 30. Get him to at least try one, there's a strong possibility he'll have the revelation that an appropriately sized amp is actually much better than something which is going to be a compromise on tone and volume Those little Cornford, Cornell, Top Hat etc. combos are all worth a look. If he's got some cash to spend then have a look at Brunetti amps: http://www.brunetti.it/index_en.php I heard one of these in my LMS and my jaw hit the floor. The proprietor uses it as his demo amp to sell guitars, he sticks a Vintage strat copy through it and sounds like Dave Gilmour. If he still wants to use the big amps then maybe a powerbrake or something similar would be useful? EDIT: About an amp for you, i'd tend to go with a head and cab like these two: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73828 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73020 The cab is in Ireland too If you're after a combo then you'll have to decide if you want lightweight or not, that'll make a big difference to what you should have on the "must try" list Beedster is selling his Mesa if you want something that'll put a smile on your face
Can't help with a solution, but can add into the "symptoms"... I use a Superfly & it totally blitzes my Freeview box - I'm guessing that it's some kind of digital interference. Is the numpty neighbour using DAB radios? Pete.
Most likely not DAB, he's quite an old guy who hasn't even discovered that he can watch footy scores on telly yet! It also happened with the Hartke A70 i have so i don't think it's strictly to do with the Superfly. Usually the Superfly would be the first suspect as i've had loads of problems with it. However since removing all the extra casing it's been brilliant, i'm actually in danger of liking it now! I fitted rubber feet to it and ground down the sharp corners and it's a great, if underpowered little head

Cheers guys! I found a mains conditioner for £25 here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tacima-CS929-6-Way-M...=item1c0f7934f6 That's the cheapest i could find. I usually play really quietly at home as my room is above the front room, my housemate's missus usually whinges if she can't hear Big Brother, X Factor or whatever useess cr@p she happens to be watching. When complained this morning i was just playing along to Nina Simone songs on the EUB. He described it as inteference when i wasn't playing but left the amp on
-
Before he complained when i was playing my EUB which has a piezo and preamp, then when i was playing an active Warwick and later my passive Aria. We used to play a pub with dodgy electrics (that'll be all pubs then) and one time we could hear the bass coming through the PA during soundcheck even though it wasn't DI'd and no mics were on. We stopped using lights at that pub because they caused the amps to make popping noises when we switched them on/off As it does it on different basses with different amps and affects his battery powered radio i'm stumped. I think Protium has the right idea..... God forbid i should prevent him from listening to footy scores on the radio ALL F******G DAY!
-
I'll ask him next time i see him if it's analog of digital. The amps are both in my room which is on the furthest side from there house, it happens on both his radios too, even the battery powered one in his kitchen We do have some suspect electrics in the house, it cuts out maybe 10 times a year and a row of plug sockets in the kitchen cause the lights to cut out. It's a rented house and we don't see the landlord much. He's a pilot and last time i rang him it cost me a fortune to leave an answerphone message as he was in America The neighbour has just been round again because i was playing for 5 minutes and he wants to listen to football on the radio, so now i can't play bass because he still thinks it's 1974
