  1. You'll be taking a gamble on a knockoff neck and after all is said and done the bass will be a less valuable bitsa if that's the sort of thing that bothers you. If you really like the bass and just want to get it playing again then either swap with a like for like CV neck, go for a Mighty Mite, Allparts, MIM Fender etc neck or as said above see if someone can fix it for you. Unfortunately there's no real cheap option that doesn't have potential drawbacks.
  2. Can get some excellent USB Type C powered pencil irons now: https://sequremall.com/products/sequer-s99-soldering-iron-support-pd-qc-dc-pps-power-supply-compatible-with-c245-tip-for-drone-rc-model-welding-repair-tool-anti-static-welding-pen?variant=42863253389500 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32904980528.html?src=google&pdp_npi=4@dis!GBP!58.20!37.19!!!!!@!12000017994797562!ppc!!!&gQT=2 https://pine64.com/product/pinecil-smart-mini-portable-soldering-iron/ I have an older TS100 which is DC power only, it's been fantastic.
  3. Just spotted one on Bass Players Market UK if you're looking to replace it or swap necks:
  4. Well it's temporarily up and running, I have a spare 4ohm Celestion BN10 300S neodimium driver knocking around that I bought ages ago and never found a permanent use for so I stuck that in there. Not heard back from Ashdown yet but they did previously recommend the Eminence Beta as a replacement for these so I'll hunt down a used one in time then give this cab to my mate. Tbh I mainly took the old driver out so it was easier to shift from room to room! The BN10 300S sounds as good in this cab as it has in anything else I've used it in, which is to say it's acceptable and doesn't like much low end. Crazy mid response though.
  5. I took the piezo bridge out of that bass so it isn't being used, dunno how much they go for. Just done battle with my parts box and can't find it, have a feeling I took it into work as I was going to put it up for sale along with the piezo bridge so will check tomorrow and get the model number. I think it's this one so may not be suitable for your needs: https://bartolini.net/product/mpb2/
  6. I have a dual channel Bartolini buffer preamp knocking around somewhere, I used it in my old fretless to buffer the piezo bridge with the mag pickups. Will dig it out tonight if you're interested?
  7. Just had a look and a recone kit is £85, I'm not able to do the work myself so it probably wouldn't be workable for a £133 driver. These were cheap cabs to begin with (I think my mate paid £110 for his used) so ideally something under £50 would be suitable, I'll wait and see what Ashdown say, hopefully a used Beta or something like that will be ok.
  8. Won't be a Kappa if I do keep hold of it and find a replacement driver, they're pretty expensive here. No idea if they work in that box anyway. There's a used Pulse 10 on eBay at the moment, I sent Ashdown another email asking for T/S parameters of the original driver and/or the cab volume and port dimensions so maybe there's a cost effective replacement available, driver prices seem to have gone crazy in the last few years.
  9. The Kappa is goosed, check those pictures above out! Pretty much all of the paper cone is torn and it's covered in miscellaneous goop. I'm guessing the original owner blew the stock driver, found a knackered random 10" driver on eBay, covered it in glue for a genius fix and was surprised his masterplan didn't work.
  10. Yeah that's what I was thinking, I don't really need it but I have a mate who has one (8ohm version) with a Gnome head and it would be nice to get it working so he can have a mini stack of doom. I actually contacted Ashdown about compatible 8ohm drivers a while ago when I first saw it at £40, they said the following: "The Mi 10 had a twin cone speaker no longer available buut it can be replaced by a dood single cone 10” such as a pulse 10 etc "
  11. The driver is an Eminence Kappa Pro 10-A, I take it this is a replacement? Anybody got an idea of a compatible driver for this cab?
  12. I think I may have found why it doesn't work
  13. Just tested it. It does not work. Sounds like a million wasps after curry night.
  14. Just nipped out to get some gecko food and passed a Money Traders, had a look in as last time they had this cab advertised at £40 but I left it as it was 4ohms so not much use to me (or my mate who already has one 8ohm version). Anyway I spotted it in a corner with a £19.99 price tag so bought it, can't leave it there for that price! Not even sure if it works yet
  15. Fender Rumble 100 combo for £200 in Southend here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1315232262824342/
  16. Either of these would be my pick, some great deals around and that Eden cab is crazy cheap.
  17. Would have grabbed that just for the head and sold the rest on if it was near me.
  18. Definitely go Warmoth if possible.
  19. A few years ago I took Mrs Lemmywinks to see Maroon 5, the bass was some form of low rumble that couldn't be heard. The fella looked like he was playing decently enough but I have no idea if he was playing the parts. Came away from it feeling like I should audition for some touring acts, seema like the ultimate blag gig.
  20. There was mint condition one of those in my local Money Traders for £550 a few months ago, beautiful bass.
  21. If the Elf combo was loud enough you could just get the Elf 110 cab and use it with a different head.
  22. Go and try a few to find out how particular you are about string spacing at the bridge and neck profile. £500 buys you a lot of bass these days, especially on the used market.
  23. Eddie has already seen his recent activity, check the comments here with some more bu115h1ttery from Jon. Meanwhile the going rate for a Letts bass as of August this year, ouch:
  24. You'll need a new nut, the saddle slot filling and a new saddle fitted in the correct position. This is all regular work for a luthier as a lot of vintage (and some not so old) acoustics will need new nuts and saddles at some point anyway If the guitar is worth it then by all means get the modification done as long as the guitar doesn't need anything else doing to it, get a quote from a good luthier and see if it's viable it to you. A lot of the time the cost of work on acoustics makes initial bargains much less appealing. What's the guitar, is it new?
  25. I'm the bestest, most smartest poster on here and I never mention it. If you've ever had an injury or physical issues then shaving weight off the headstock is the best thing you can do outside of buying a lightweight headless, certainly better than stopping gigging. Annoyingly I injured my back recently and am glad I have the choice of an 8lb bass with Ultralites or a 7lb headless to gig with tomorrow night.
