1. Damn you, hit me up when u get bored of it
2. Ok, so sat at practice last night with the cream pie, bbbod, angler and SFT on a pt nano, it was a very very cool but point less board Now I never tried the original BBBOD so I can't really comment how close they are. I'm just putting my thoughts out there on the bbbod as a new pedal. Firstly, to me this is not low gain, not even close, with the nature and gain at zero it sounded very fuzz like to me, don't get me wrong a very nice dark fuzz and a sound I've never really gotten before but a Cream Pie it is not. There is no slightly gritty sound to me. It's a great gain sound with no low end loss and only compresses badly with an active with the gain cranked. By far of the 3 od pedals the SFT is my fav with the cream pie (bearing in mind I never owned one with my current amp Matamp GT200) that really falls into dirty boost at best with me haing to use the volume to get gritty sounds over the gain. So if I break it down BBBOD vs CPD. If you were after a low gain tube with slightly gritty sound the CPD is the only way to go. The BBBOD is like buying a fuzz pedal to get this tone. just not going to happen or go get a Dod 250. BBBOD vs SFT. SFT is capable of a bigger low end and a zingier high end with everything in between. Gain similar though they both nail bass distortion tones that make me want to groove and not riff like I'm a guitarist (if that makes sense) BBBOD vs Angler. So different it's not even real, if you like one it's unlikely you'll like the other thou you could have them on the same board to do completely different sounds but they really do cover different ground and have very different characters. What I'll be doing later today is pitting the BBBOD against my fuzz pedals and seeing where it sits, I do like it tonally but it's not low gain enough for my preferences, I have a chance to buy a Dark Driving which I may go for if that's the same character but capable of lower gain sounds. Have to say I was very surprised at how much I liked the Angler, really cool pedal. Will also try doing some clips tonight on my iPad with GarageBand so can't promise anything will sound good.
3.
It always makes me laugh, especially on some of the more fruity US forums when people talk with reverence about the "Matamp Factory" like it's a scared, holy place, bathed in clean white light where tonez are made. I wonder if they could see that it's a run-down shed, up a little lane, behind a Tesco, that's completely disorganised with fag ends everywhere, that reeks of smoke with projects that started between yesterday and 40 years ago littered around if they would have the same reverence? I'm not knocking Matamp's product at all but they are very much a case of the British Inventor's Shed, not Googleplex.
I must strongly disagree with this assessment, it is infact a Morrisons
4.
What are your expectations of the Matamp factory?
A non smoking enviroment?
5. Me too I never thought it would be possible but my GT200 actually killed my amp gas and made me sell 3 of my amps (Would have been more but its not a sellers market at the moment) I still toy with the idea of getting 15-30w amp made to replace my 1957 Dynacord tube amp I use for home practice.
6. Mine should be here before Friday if Parcel Force get their arses in gear.
7. I've seen it as a one off in a pedal with a wopping big power supply, didn't really seem to be very workable.
8.
Materials wise not having a preamp doesn't save much money you still need a phase splitter etc so you'll only be saving on one valve section.
Yep had this discussion with Matamp, they still need to build something in there to feed into the power section so it still has a pre of sorts just not a full one. They said to me it would be easier to just add an input on the back that bypassed the eq and allowed for a slave in as it wouldn't require anymore R&D.
9.
I think Tayste_2000 has a Mesa Strategy for sale.
£600 with very new tubes Great condition. PM'd with details
10. No, but then I don't need more headroom from it. I should really give it a go and pick up one of those voltage pumps
11. TBH I'm only getting it as it was on my list from years ago, I don't really expect it to topple the SFT from it's mighty throne.
12. Just bought mine, it will be here in the next 10 days I suspect I'll let you know what I think. I've never tried the BBBOD so I'll be judging this on it's own merits however I will have an SFT, Dredgetone Angler and Tone Factor Cream Pie to compare it to side by side. So far I've been very unimpressed by the video clips I've heard.
13. Would this be any good for live looping? You know for bass ala, Steve Lawson and Michael Manring? Cheers
14. Damn he's in Manchester and I don't have a ticket.
15.
That sounds really interesting, I'd love to hear someone doing this! Jennifer
Charlie Hunter
16. Everything sold apart from the Rush Dvd any interest? Anyone? Cheers
17. Yeah, sorry it's not really for me
18. Yeah it's not really my thing tbh. I assume we're talking about a straight swap?
19. Who's Next sold Not heard anything back regarding the Rush dvd so still available at the moment.
20. I knew it wasn't just me that didn't like Rush then
21. Sorry no Cheers
22.
I'm really thinking about drilling a hole in my front rack cover for one of these super silencing leads to come out of and that's the only access the borrower has. You're lucky if it's the volume, normally these c**ts turn up the gain. Next week's moan: People who use fuzz pedals through my amps, what can I do about them? Haha.
Fuzz pedals are fine, that's them using a compressed signal into your amp you should be happy. You should worry about people like me with boost pedals
