4. A Shandy fuelled rant at 02.21 .......... ooooooooooooft Nice guy that Mark Kinig ......very nice man ... 5. I am quite out spoken and quite opinionated... sorry blame that on the old man ..who taught me a thing or two about what makes music good ... Mark King you are sh*t ...what the f*** have you done that says something about my life (The Smiths ) f*** all you can slap ...well maybe .... you play a sp**k bass ..yes i agree but what have you done thats truly original pushed the boundaries to make music a better place f*** All ....are you Jah Wobble are you Jaco are you Hamid Kasri .... eh No Mark King fans no nothing about good music.... some day people will look back and say there once passed a guy who s originality spawned a whole new generation .... I laugh... this will never happen with Mark f***ing King ..(some day there will come a rain a real rain that will wash all the scum from the streets (Mark KIng fans this is your rain...a real rain... ) ) Elvis never wrote a song in his life but at least his performance pushed boundaries and he did make music a better place ... ....Elvis or Mark King .......letmethinkabootitnaw am getting angry now ....what the f*** Mark Pa Ting ..... sh*t ...sh*t hang the DJ because the music that he constantly plays says f*** all to me about me life ooooooooo we got a live one ear ...

Hi Honori i am a newbie too (is this correct use of too i think it is ) Barcelona its a beautiful city ...just watch your valuables down ramblas .... we have two football teams in Glasgow ...stupid really ..Glasgow United what a team that would be ... could have a captivated audience of of around 110 thousand easy ....sadly religion separates both teams .. do you have a spare room the weather in Scotland is miserable ...oh and can i bring my dog ..she s adorable ...big boisterous thing with a sweet sweet nature ... she d lick your Bebe to death enjoy the forum ....
8. My first instrument was drums .... i was ten when i was introduced to my fathers drummer (jazz band ...old man played trumpet) I think his name was Hugh Ferguson (i know it was Hugh) he was the teacher for the Scottish Police Pipe band back in the 70s...fantastic guy and brilliant drummer... i progressed very quickly with his teachings ..also remember hours and hours of practice but it was never a chore ..i loved it Long story short ... i got a phone call 20 years ago ...ooft asking if i was still playing drums .. i hadnt played for a number of years this guy got my number from a friend of a friend turns out hes playing cruise ships ..the money is good and conditions are top notch and would i be interested... he tells me the current drummer is leaving the band in three months time giving me three months to quit my job and get some serious practice up until recently i have regretted not going for it ...but my heart was nt in drumming i wanted to make music.. not rat a tat man .. i met a friend a few years ago who told me what happened to this out fit most of the cruises were landing in the Caribbean....where the coke was as common as alcohol ... they all got a taste for coke ...sleeping all day playing cruise ship standards at night and getting nutted all night long chatting up the rich totty one thing led to another and in order to bring themselves down they were dabbling in H which would allow them some sleep .. the poor guy who called me is now a skeletor look a like.. ducking and diving trying to get his next fix Rock n Roll ...ooooooooooft if anyone is looking for me to drum for their band the answer is still no and next time your on a Caribbean Cruise go check out the band see if they same sane to you ...if not you ll know the reason
9. I love this kind of stuff .... I once had a mate who could sell snow to Eskimos (sorry Inuit for the proper name) He blagged an audition with a profession outfit (dont want to name the band) trouble was his playing was no where near any competent standard ....think he d been playing Bass for under a year I would have sold my soul to have been a fly on the wall at that audition so i asked him "how did it go" his reply was "i didnt know any of their songs or what the f*** they were talking about" (he mentioned some progression played using mainly a melodic minor or something of that kinda ilk) what the f*** was going on in this boys head i dont know ....ok we have all had to blag our way through life ... at least once ( am sure we all have 1 story) but this is on par with....A Tannoy announcement on board an aircraft "Is there a Doctor on board the flight.. please make yourself know to the cabin crew" "Doctor Woa a fancy given that a go a mean how difficult can it be ...here doll doctor you say thats me" I often wonder what became of that boy ...last i heard he was a manager for a large supermarket no doubt selling still selling snow to Greenland
10. Most folk i know or knew played 4 string 5 string is a regular 4 string with an added thicker string ..giving you extra lower notes 5-String Bass Tuning The most common standard tuning for a five-string bass from lowest pitch to highest (thickest string to thinnest) is: B – E – A – D – G (E-A-D-G is regular 4 string) This tuning has one lower pitched string added to the standard 4-string tuning giving you 5 lower notes. if your looking for the extra notes it gives you a little more bump (lower end) .... its very much a personal thing ...personally I like 4 string my P Bass gives me all the bump i need...most folk start on 4 string and then decide to move to 5 strings after getting to grips with the 4 string ... i would say its also a little easier to learn on the 4 string....and as mentioned most books ...youtube clips are geared towards the 4 string player ...but thats not to say there isnt a wealth of five string stuff out there ...the 5 string is popular but not as popular ... dive in try a few and see what you like ....try as many bass s as you can get your hands on this is always good advice
11. Sorry my knowledge of acoustic bass is up there with the chocolate fire guard 4 or 5 strings ...my preference is 4 strings... for a beginner i would say go 4 ...most books(beginner) are geared towards 4 string but if you really want 5 strings then jump right in ...5 string is an extra string(giving extra lower notes) usually tuned to a Low B 5 string acoustic wouldn't give you as much choice as the 4 string....
12. As for learning, well I am entirely self taught through books (the Hal Leonard Complete Bass Method is a good starter....as recommended by RickyV This is a most excellent choice of book ... i think the complete version (was split into 3 books) is available from amazon for around £12
13. Hi Like to throw in a few suggestions Bass wise Best deal by a country mile is the Yamaha BB424 ...really nice starter bass and i know a few guys on here use it as a gigging bass ..yes its that good (£275) not a fan of the cheap Benson and Hedges ..heard both good and bad reviews plus if your buying from internet you dont get a chance to see what your actually buying..few guys have been really surprised by the quality but also reviews saying it was badly finished and set up like a dog ... Squire ...some really good squires available for the money ...i ve played a few belters but also a few dogs... if you can take someone who knows along to the shop even better second hand market is also good ...if you can stretch a little bit a nice Fender made in Japan is an excellent choice ..i bought mine from a guy locally and he was practically giving it away(£375 but condition was mint for a 22 year old) and if i was to resell i would definitely get my money back saw an old Tokai(from the 80s) on sale on this website ..think it was £400 ...you would not be able to spend a better £400 on anything ... re sale on this bad boy would defo get you your money back seen these on flea bay for well in excess of £400 its all about budget and if you can stretch to decent second hand its more a money back guarantee if you decide to re sell..... cheers

15. Hi Thanks for your suggestion ... i have seen this guy before ...he s good however there is a wealth of really good stuff to be had for free on the old wonder web Scott Devine is a top man as is the German dude way the affy nice bass collection (he s probably no German but when i first heard his accent it sounded very much German to me ...hes probably Dutch or Belgian or Swiss or the likes..pretty sure hes no Indian ...need to look that up) I was hoping for the old fashioned styled lessons ....think its a more sense of occasion...slightly more personal ... i appreciated your post and i know there are more and more folks going down this route ... Cheers nice dog by the way ..hes a happy Chappy or Chapess also liking Bob the Dog and Davids wee freakster is too cool for school .. OH and the cat thats interests are Meeces ...quality ... any other leads.. mucho thanko amigos ..(the old spanish is getting better)
16. Hi Thanks for all the responses .. i will try my one number i have it came from a reputable source ...Charlie at Southside Music (wee plug for this true Gentleman ... his shop is legend) If this works out and if they are willing i will post the details for future students .. If i feel its not for me then i will contact Jennifer.. as mentioned if she is not giving lessons i am sure she will be in the know as to what is on offer I did look through the Musicteachers .co.uk ... i didnt find one person who was solely teaching Bass ...most were multi instrumentalists offering everything from tri angle to Oboe ... lots of Guitar\Bass and lots of kids just passed their HND in whatever ... i have my reservations about making contact for reasons mentioned ... Onwards and upwards i will find what i am looking for ...if anyone else wishes to through something into the mix then please do ...as the saying goes no idea is a bit idea and all leads posted will be followed up ... Cheers once again and if your going back to work this week ...take it easy dont work too hard ...toodle pip
17.
Hello funsters. Can you help me identify the tip and ring bits of this headphone jack? My guess is that the thin central gold bit that juts out is the tip (left) and the thicker bit behind it, half surrounded by black plastic, is the ring (right). The earth is the long metal bit with two prongs at the end closest to the camera. Am I right? Thanks.
do you have any idea of how good this image is ...its nearly perfect centre focus is f***ing amazing ...i can feel the threads in my hand and the light reflection is perfect love the slate grey back ground with the gold complimenting the silver ... well done my son this is good work .... oh and yes your correct in your thinking for tip , ring and earth
18. I love the sound of old strings much more bump then sparkle ...and i like to bump flats would love to chang..e to these ...but i like to feel the round wound bite on my fingers especially on my playing hand (non fretting hand which is the right hand for me) sure ive seen old bass s being sold with the original strings and this has been a selling feature .....
19. I ate a tribute band last night and it tasted Fxxking orrible better off with home made soup any day the tinned variety is not in comparison as for old codger re unions ..they are just stealing your money and satisfying their over inflated egos oh.... and shagging your daughters ..
20. Hi As the title would suggest i am looking to take my playing further Looking for a good teacher in the Glasgow area Looking for someone who is willing to give the first lesson for free thus allowing me some scope to find someone best suited to my needs .. (this would be normal i think?) I do have one number to call but looking to put a few more irons in the fire styles hmm if its good its good ...more on a funk vibe ...but i also like blues, jazz,Dub,Electronic (EH!)...the list is truly non exhaustive....also they dont have to fit into any category just someone who knows their onions .... any replies much appreciated ...email address or contact phone number .. my playing standard is fairly basic but i do have some qualities not sure what those are ...its not for me to say.. Lets say i am enthusiastic have a desire to learn and improve cheers for any replies.. suggestions
