1. I'm not so sure, how far back is the buyer obliged to go? I've just bought a new pa from an online shop, I don't know where they have got it from. Under No circumstance should the shop pass on any buyers info to the kid, his mom or the dad so the only people that could request that would be the police who I can't see getting involved at all. If the kid swore his dad gave it him and his dad swore he didn't that's the end of the whole debacle legally.
2. I wouldn't have involved with this family debate and kept the bass, what would have happened if the bass had been purchased with cash in the shop?
3. Surely all bands were a startup band once, even your beloved Beatles?
4. Just tell the shop you didn't like it and sold it on to a guy in a pub car park, sorry.
5. The difference between the nice looking ones like that Framus or the LP and the boot ugly ones is where the neck joins, I'm yet to see a good looking SC bass where the neck joins the body at the 12th fret.
6. That's very brave, got to be worth a try, I've been learning arco for around two years and wouldn't punish an audience with it yet!
7.
I can't help it I wasn't there...
Better sell all your gear then, lol.
8. All of which look neater than a cross between a whale and a can opener imo, lol.
9. So are all the top players not using single cuts playing basses with dead spots?
10.
seriously?
Once it's had a refin it's not original regardless of the components, something can only be original once, that does not make it fake but it's not original.
11.
Fair enough - Necks are finicky things - well the wood ones are as wood is finicky stuff. Strength and density varies within the same plank let alone the same species, and while graphite rods are probably a good way to get consistent necks (from a mass production point of view), especially when they're transported all over the world (without climate control) . . . IMO Graphite rods does not a good low B make. IME it's mostly about the string (bad strings just sound garbage compared to high quality ones) and the setup. If the action is to be low - and the relief minimal - You'd better play light and have a near perfect fret job or it will not speak across it's length at all well. All this is assuming a stable neck. If the neck is not stable (e.g. less dense maple, inappropriate grain pattern, not quite dry enough when it was worked etc. etc. etc.) the moving mass of the strings (this is my pet theory anyway) will cause the neck to vibrate and slightly flex, sucking sustain from the string.
I agree but all those negative things are more likely to exist on a cheap neck in the first place, the closest comparison would be pre and post fender 5s with and without the rods, most non rod ones suck and a fair few of the rodded ones are pretty good imo. Both 34 scale from the same factory.
12.
More likely something in the preamp has got blown up. The voltage level from the speaker out will most likely be too high for the input op amp. I think it's highly unlikely the output transistors will be blown as it would represent a high impedance load. This could be good news, as op amp cost peanuts. Try putting a line level signal into the effects return socket. See if the power amp section is working at least.
This was my initial thought regarding the preamp valve as I didn't realise it was not a mag evo but just a mag, so it's done the same thing but to the component preamp rather than the valve. Long live speakon connectors!
13. Thomann will be stocking a Harley Benton version for £169 fairly soon, pop in the aguilar pickup and job done.
14.
Just seen that there's actually a reliced Sandberg in the sale section... shame it's 35" scale!
Why?
15. ^ that's more 70s disco imo, that would be a no no, 80s I can handle at a push.
16. Thanks for reading this thread and excuse my ignorance but do these Barefaced cabs quite a few of you appear to have built come in kit form with all the parts or just the plans to build them at home and the badges to put on them? I'm quite handy but I don't fancy trying to find all the parts so I'd rather pay for a box full of parts and screw it all together myself if possible? I've looked at shops online and I like the look of Ashdown or Orange ones, bassdirect listed all sorts of brands I've never heard of that looked much fancier than Ashdown or these Barefaced kits, I can live with the 80s disco look as long as they sound ok? I've only got an old 1x15 right now and its heavy! Thanks in advance, Mike.
17. I've had this a few times and I guess I'm not alone. You go and see a band you like only to 'discover' the warm up act you previously had no interest in have good back catalogue you quite enjoy!
18. Another similar cab will just surely have similar issues? A new approach cab wise might be better or a totally different single cab solution for the gigs where the barefaced doesn't cut the mustard? I'm not sure about these one cab solutions that require more than one cab.
19. I wouldn't want a lime light fiver, afaik they are just made from cheap generic parts so the five string neck wouldn't have the graphite rods of the newer fender fives making it like the old pre 2008 (?) Ones with a terrible B.
20. For every one of these posts there are ten from sellers that had changed their plans to suit a definite buyer that never showed up then wouldn't respond to emails etc.
21. I thought these barefaced things were the best things going, what is it lacking for your band?
22. Nothing worse than a gig where you forget your bass and the single audience member only goes and wears exactly the same thing as you!
