2.
puts me in a good mood this one LD.. good call..
Lol.... I reckon the Marcus version will be along soon........ Garry
  3.
It took two pages on a bass player forum to get to Higher Ground? Man we're slipping.
And even longer to get this. Garry
  4.
I'm not sure if this is within the rules, but I'll post it anyway! Absolutely love this cover of As, done by the ever brilliant Gene Harris: so much funk there should be a warning label.
Yep that was a great version - any idea who sang it ? being trying to find out for ages. Edit - just looked on the Youtube site, Jerry Peters on vox, and Harvey Mason on drums. And talking of Harvey Mason - by looking at his Facebook page, there seems to be a new album brewing with George Benson. 5. To be honest, there are to many to list for me. Like you i have just about everything he has done. The Talking Book album gets a lot of play on my systems. Really love this track from that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H--_-gPX3Nw...feature=related The guy is just superb all round, and as they say 'It don't get any better than that' Good topic Bubinga, Garry

    Free VSTs

Another bunch worth a try. http://www.7air.co.uk/vst-fx.php Garry
  12. Yep i have seen the full video quite a while ago - and he is a fantastic player. I have a a couple of things with him on, and he is very consistant in everything he does, right on it. Thanks for posting. Garry
  13.
Basschaters I’m really getting into GarageBand on my Mac, (stuffing around with the effects and EQ) editing numbers that I record via a Zoom recorder at our band practice sessions. I’m now getting to a point where I want to do bit more and am looking for a few pointers on what Audio recording software and hardware other Basschaters use and why? I’m not sure, that GarageBand is the way forward, I hear lots of other software being referred to on this site, and perhaps a different brand would be better? Anyway it’d be interesting to get other Basschaters to let us (me) all know what they get up to on the recording side of things – some of the stuff I hear on this very site, done with imagination and low budget, has been really very good quality – how do you do it chaps? Oggy
I say go back to the basics! Garry
  14. In the late 70's - my dad took the plyers to my Fender Jazz [ actually it had been his] and ripped the frets out and filled the gap - why?.... Because Jaco had, so everyone else was having a go... I still have and use it to this day - i am on my second board though [nice bit of dark Ebony that has lasted about 10 years till now] Garry
  15.
Jaco was, in many ways a lick player. If you listen to a lot of his stuff, you will eventually hear his cliches.
To be honest this is true of a lot of the greats, They just manage to store thousands more than the average soloist, that gets them from A to B. Not all of course. Garry
  16.
And this one has a really great bass solo from the master himself. 1980 - No Fodera, but he still sounds like AJ.
I can never get enough of AJ's Bass playing, always right on it. I still love listening to those 80's Japan concerts, with the likes of Grusin, Gadd, LA big band etc. Some great posts on this thread. Garry
  17.
You're saying there's no rhythm in those clips? Astonishing.
My thoughts as well. Rhythm, lyrical expression - its all there. Garry
  18. If you have 25 minutes to spare sit back and watch/listen to a bit of fun. Of course if you don't like these guys, don't waste your time. Garry

Another bunch of free stuff well worth a test drive - the pre-amp is really nice sounding. http://sirelliot.blog.com/ Garry
  20.
It's probably a good time to point out that theory as a learned subject is only half the battle, and further, as a technical subject is only useful for explaining the mechanics of music to others. Maybe folk should realise that it's how you utilise your knowledge of theory on the instrument that matters.
+100000 Garry
  21.
Burn the heretic!
"Behold the power of the [linux]-heretic! Who can stand against it? It shall ride roughshod over its enemies like a searing tidal wave of righteous flame!" Something like that anyway. Garry
  22.
Quick question to the professionals out there.... How often do you have to deal with a treble clef? Is it worth spending time learning it? So far I've seen ledger lines and 8va signs for the higher notes but I haven't seen a grand stave used. Cheers Dave
It looks like you are putting in the time learning to sight read - always worth going the extra yard for the TC. Music is not just about Bass. Reading the TC opens access to various higher register instruments, seeing how they approach melody, Harmony and solos etc, which at the end of the day all helps to make you a more rounded Musician. Garry
  23.
So if anyone has a project requiring pre-EB circuit capabilities, Higgie is your man.
Thanks for heads up Bass Doc. Who is Higgie? and how can i contact him? Garry
  24.
Nope Reaper doesnt have any such metering built in that I've found, I've used a few other bits and bobs with Kmetering though (voxengo vst called span) which is pretty damn fine, try it...
Yep - i have been using it for a while and i find it very useful. Last year some time i started to read up on all the Bob Katz stuff, And it all started to sink in regarding Kmetering. [but then you would be up on all that] Interesting little read. 25.
I doubt that Deacon, Taylor and May really needed the money! It was interesting to see that they did not make any money at all off the first three albums because of a bad record deal.
People always want/need more money - and especially when record companies are involved. Yep, it was interesting about the first three albums not making them much money. Kinda makes it worth carrying on to earn more money then... Garry
