1.
Bit of Trev on double bass with the AoN gang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4THY1v3a5k
The wonderful Anne Dudley on Piano and Keys there. I think she was involved with Two Tribes as well. Fantastic composing and session career behind her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Dudley
  2. Pretty standard set up for me, I have my DAW(S) and Vst/Vsti's on the system drive (SSD) Quadcore i7/16 gig Ram. Sample Libraries (in my case Kontakt libs) on one external drive, and also any other Synth (Omnisphere/RMX etc) libs on this drive as well, Then my Daw/Audio projects along with any video cues on another external drive (I also burn finished projects to dvd discs as well) Everything at 24-bit/48KHz, it all seems to work for me while running quite a lot of midi/instrument tracks. Although I am now seriously investigating this for running two puters. http://www.viennaensemblepro.com/
  3. Nice Video explaining loudness metering. It's more aimed at working in Broadcast, but useful anyway if you want to understand what it all means. Some more here. http://productionadv.../lufs-dbfs-rms/
  4. One of the Arabic scales is good fun. You can get some unusual chord and harmony progressions going (great for out of the box composing) Hopeless on a twelve bar blues gig though.. C/Db/E/F/G/Ab/B/C (Double Harmonic Major Scale or Byzantine Scale)
  5.
I gathered everything I could find into one article on the bassists of Abba: http://philwbass.com...ssists-of-abba/ Phil
Thanks for that - A very good read. I have done a couple of ABBA theatre production shows over the years, and the tunes are great fun to play.
  6.
touring groups get a couple of weeks of rehearsal in before the show hits the road. I think, with that amount of time invested, it would be relatively 'easy' to nail it, given an acceptable level of competence.
Yep. 7. Just finished reading this, and a good read it is. Great stuff Rob.
  8. A very nice (Free) lite version String patch from Embertone (Their Samples are excellent). Only for Kontakt full version. The Legato sounds are really. really nice. Check out the demo's on the left hand side. A few other freebies as well. To be honest, the prices of the Embertone libraries are good value. http://www.embertone.com/freebies/intstrings-lite.php
  9.
Was that on his famous hit 'Stand And Deliver', covered by Adam Ant many years later?
That's the one - Dick was really a Jazz musician, even back then it did not pay the bills, so he resorted to pop music when the stage coach business dried up a little.
  10.
https://groups.googl...the-bottom-line It would appear that I am older than I think. I thought everyone with a hint of bass geekery knew about it.
Indeed, I also remember doing sessions with Dick Turpin. It was real analogue Tinterneting - And excellent it twas.
  11. Terrific stuff on that video. He just oozes class as an all round top musician, and his vocal range is pretty amazing as well. Only ever had one No 1 single in the UK.
  12.
what is a VST3 , is it 2 better than a VST ?
It goes up to 11 !!! http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/technologies/vst3.html
  13. It is working in (Presonus) Studio One as a VST3 as well.
I've just been trying a new EQ - and was so impressed with the way it worked on vocals and guitars, that I thought I'd come here to link/share... free for Mac/PC 32&64 http://www.kvraudio....uftikus-by-lkjb
Just been trying this, and it is very nice. Hardly any CPU hit as well (x64) Thanks for the link.

  17. Grangur, they were attached as pdf's - But for some reason the extension shows as .ipb. After download, just rename from .ipb to pdf then that will open them.
  18. Hi ambient - Like you say, dynamics/vibrato needs some work. It seems to me to be lacking in expression regarding articulations etc. A lot of the notes seem the same on a velocity level, and everything bang on the grid. Midi writing for Orchestral/Quartet pieces is always (very) hard, you need to get into the PRV and write/paint in the cc#'s to breath life into a score. Note wise for me, it just seems to be harmony wandering with no strong theme. But hey, that's just what I like to hear, not meant to be a criticism, and it does have a lot of promise with a little work (and yes, it is a work in progress, I look forward to the end product) I have attached some info {PDF's) regarding articulations/dynamics and expression for Midi parts. You more than likely know all this stuff, but others may find it useful. If you have trouble opening the file - Just rename the file extension from.ipb to pdf after download.
  19. Free SLM Loudness meter (Steinberg) Mac and PC. I presume it is only for Cubase users (it works on my Cubase 7.5) so go and grab. I will also try on another DAW later tonight and report back. 20. Voted - Well done all, some interesting stuff going on.
Dad just did for me - It had that almost childish humour to it, and a slightly plodding feel that captured the Elephant, although the relentless snoring fx went on a bit

  21. John Scofield Trio with Steve Swallow - Beautiful.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPhJn6pz6Fg
  22. A little Xmas share for some recording freebies. Ho, Ho, Ho... http://bedroomproducersblog.com/free-vst-plugins/
  23.
Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington's version of Mack The Knife. Can't do a link but it is on Youtube.
It don't get any better than that for (the obvious) key changes - Although I do love both Sinatra's and Darren's versions.
  24.
Does cubasis have all the virtual instruments, drums etc?
Yep, and they are excellent. Learning curve is more in Cubasis, unless you are a Cubase user. GarageBand is certainly easier to get up and running.
  25. I use ipad when on the go (mainly Midi work) and GarageBand is fine but in my Studio I use Cubase, so I started using Cubasis on the ipad because I could Import Cubasis files straight into Cubase. I found that Cubasis has a lot more going for it than GarageBand, And has a lot more sounds that sound better for my use. Midi editing is much more in depth as well. Down side...It cost 35 notes. Check out the tutorial Videos on the right hand side.
