I suppose you have to ask yourself, what you would use each lib for? Albion One is very much multi purpose and if ones knowledge on Orchestrating is minimal, it would be a great asset. String sections are highs, mids and lows (Same with Woodwinds & Brass). All recorded in the same hall along with the Percussion. Makes arranging and mixing that much easier. With the LCOS (above), you would be mixing and matching Woodwinds and Brass from the Kontakt lib. Makes mix down that much harder because of the different reverbs and halls etc. Unless you are thinking of buying SA Woods and Brass as well? Albion is a Swiss Knife, along with the Synth patches, it makes good for Hybrid Orchestral work as well and is all self contained. LCOS is more left field soundwise and specialised, split up into Vlns1, Vlns 2, Violas, Basses & Celli sections. Must admit, I have my eyes on it. It would make a good companion for Albion One.

Why does "show us your playing videos" not work on iPhones?!
lowdown replied to basexperience's topic in General Discussion
Works fine here. (iPad Air, Safari, iOS 10. I went to page 45, and all the videos were loaded and playing. So, I don't think it is an iOS 10 thing? Sorry, not much help really. -
Miles Davis- Bye, Bye Blackbird
Yes, that is nice with some great solos. I particularly like Red Garlands solo on that track. Actually, the whole album is terrific.
On My Own - great voices, great music, but totally scuppered by that lyric!! (sorry, didn't want to keep reposting the video content).
Oh, ok. Don't bother me to be honest. I just love the tune and the terrific singing. Some history. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_My_Own_(Patti_LaBelle_and_Michael_McDonald_song) Edit: For some reason, that Wiki link is redirecting?

Yellowjackets - Can anyone name that tune for me?
lowdown replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
That's Dane Alderson on Bass. Great groover and very melodic when soloing. Geraldine is a lovely tune. There are a few concert versions knocking around on YouTube. -
If you're experimenting with slap and the phone rings it's probably the 1980s asking for their bass back.
Well, if you are slapping and the phone rings, that's good. yes? For some Bassists, the phone never rings.

Al Jarreau having a Jam before going into 'Boogie Down'. Not sure who the Bassist is, but nice tight playing. (lefty upside down playing as well )

Don't knock the watch. Apart from the obvious things mentioned for a working band (as said above in various posts). The second hand on a watch can be useful: "Referencing a watch is a great way to quickly find the tempo for songs at or near 60 and 120 bpm"
I think you've misread what I was quoting .
Indeed. Any 'pro' session or pit gig, the Conductor or MD does the telling off, or dares tell a snarling Rottweiler Section, that they have played what sounds like wrong notes. The Rottweiler section, other than the odd split note, vary rarely drop a clam. Well, that's what they tell you anyway. If you are on a reading session, pit show or backing a turn. Take along a sharp pencil and a rubber (not a durex), a proper rubber.

I am with NancyJohnson about the points he made. No doubt, she is a creative song writer and written some good stuff (IMO) Not a fan of her voice though. I liked the way she destroyed the opening of the the song, stopped it after a minute or so. then started again to a rapturous round of applause. Good job swearing is recognised in many languages, otherwise she wouldn't have the global International appeal that she does. Real class.

Competition to promote and encourage aspiring bass players?
lowdown replied to j4ck's topic in General Discussion
I don't have an issue with musical competitions per se as I was brought up playing brass instruments and it was common practice to enter competitions either as a solo, duo, quartet etc or full band. The pieces were set by the adjudicators prior to the event so everyone payed the same piece. Although the music was scripted it was up to each entrant to practise and interpret the piece their way. They were then marked on tone, technique, dynamics, tempo and overall interpretation. If we'd only been assessed on simply how fast, complex or popular a piece was, it would have missed the point. If in my case the contests were set up to encourage me to practice and work towards a goal in a constructive manor, great. If in cases like the X-Factor its just a money mill that I don't feel encourages people into music then....nah. Not for me. :-)
That's how I see it. Some musicians are quite happy to practise extra, push themselves that bit further and enter comps, that's what drives them on to better things. Others are quite happy with the Dog and Duck. Both ways work. Do what you are happy with. Like Acebassmusic said, comps for musicians have always been around. It's that for Electric Bass, they are few and very far between. (The point of the OP's post). -
Competition to promote and encourage aspiring bass players?
lowdown replied to j4ck's topic in General Discussion
Something like this over here in the UK would be terrific. (My oldest lad has been interested in comps for Upright Bass and drooling over this) http://www.isbworldoffice.com/performance.asp I think it is a great idea. -
Oh. No way.!! that's very sad to hear. One of my heroes was Al J. A very unique sound. One of the masters of soul music.
A bit of a line up here. Retired because of ill health a couple of weeks back. Unfortunately, passed away this morning. Very sad. Certainly one of my favourite singers/musicians. Always worked with the very, very best.
to be fair the thread title is 'cover version over originals', no mention of better, think some people on here are posting suggestions for the worst cover version, or a cover that was nowhere as good as the original
I think the OP was suggesting what cover version one would prefer over the original. (well, my take on it).
What songs do you like a cover version better than the original?
You should start your own compilation series - Now That's What I Call Cloth Ears - some dreadful choices there
The bit that frightened me was, 'For Starters'.
A little recording of it here:
I really like the Bass sound, along with lovely playing and a unique composition (very original and reminds me of what an electric modern day, Carl Stalling piece would sound like) Not keen on the looks though. It does look like it would be at home in 'Looney Tunes' or 'Merrie Melodies' productions. Good stuff.

It don't get any better than Aretha. So many top, top tunes from her. Her phrasing was just so Rhythmical. To think she was still singing great at 72!!...Amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cF0tf35Mbo Slightly OT, but Al Jarreau has also just called it a day (because of ill health).

A close one, but this cover of "The Boxer" is fantastic. Some of the Harmonies are terrific. To be honest, I don't need any reason to post anything by Alison Krauss. She is a class Musician. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy9B43ERrbw
