How was the setup @SurroundedByManatees ?
-
It's a GSS proprietary module. I owned one and Didier went nuts when I said it looked like a Pascal module.

I reckon that the Thomann website is quite a mess. π If you don't have the exact reference, you may spend hours trying to find what you're looking for...

You can buy the Rotosound RS88S here: https://www.muziker.de/rotosound-rs88s And the LaBella 760N-S at Thomann: https://www.thomann.de/de/la_bella_760n_s_black_nylon_tape.htm

@SICbass, your bass is a short scale, not a medium, if you try to put some medium scale strings, there's 80% chances that they will break at the tuner's post as they are not meant to be at a ... broken angle (no pun intended).

The Ibanez set is good too, and the files are round shaped not V shaped. I have both. But the price is the same... -

Victor Bailey fender jazz preamp problem

Go to a real tech, it's the best you can do. -
That's, hΓ©las, quite typical to make everything wrong compared to the classical way, which is certainly the best one: you can't go wrong with 4 centuries of knowledge. That said you are right about taking classical lessons. π

The luthier seems to still be active, here is his website: https://www.richardvanderhoevenguitarsandbasses.nl/ And his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RvanderHoevenGuitars/

If you don't ground the pickup cavities, then what you did there is totally useless as the sensed electronic parasites won't be grounded and will pass in the signal through the pickups. Furthermore, your own body will still act as the more powerful antenna around and you'll still have your free taxi radio turned on... Simply solder a wire from the pickup cavities to the copper of the preamp cavities and everything will become dead silent, especially your Vigier with the amazing Benedetti single coil pickups (that I know very well as my Leduc basses are equipped with Benedetti-Leduc single coil pickups with a third hum-cancelling "pickup" Γ la Alembic).

By the way, did you ground all the cavities after shielding them with copper?

No Gas Gear - what have you never thought of replacing?
Hellzero replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
Not a bass, but totally related to it, it's my JBC SL 2300 soldering station bought around 35 years ago, used a lot since then on thousands of items, almost every day in the beginning and at least once a week since a few years. It was costing a lot back then, the price of a new good quality bass... I'm going to change the tip for the first time after around 35 years as soon as I receive the official one ordered. -

The reading with active pickups is quite useless especially if they weren't powered when doing it... With active pickups, the pots are generally 25 kOhms. If Seymour Duncan is saying 100 kOhms, they must have a reason so following what the designers have established is always the best idea.

@Ruarl Try the LaBella Super Steps or the F Bass or the Rotosound Piano String Design or the Kalium or the Galli EC and the likes with the exposed cores. Newtone is also making some and is always a pleasure to deal with.

Because Google didn't study Latin @ezbass. π

This was my Sei Flamboyant 6, excellent bass, for sure, but I traded it for I don't remember what, ask @binky_bass... Hoc non debevo vendere.

I have the same logo as yours on my 1979 Stingray (with the encircled R)... The bridge is, of course, an excellent indicator of authenticity, because of its unique features, but the stamps and pot date codes are way more precise, especially the stamps. π At this price tag, it should be a good idea to have these details photographed as I'm sure a connoisseur buyer will ask for these, so being proactive doesn't harm. πππ
