1. Ha ha! nice.. Reel big fish did a great version of Aha's "take on me" - brilliant! (they also covered hungry like a wolf and brown eyed girl).
2. I'd go for James Jamerson, Duck Dunn, John Paul Jones, Guy Pratt
3. I've had nothing but good experiences with the bass gallery. Glad to hear this has sorted itself out. Definitely worth visiting if you need anything.
4. Someone is popping around today to look at the whole package - i'll let you know if they take it or not.
5.
What does the footswitch control? And do you have a price in mind for just the amp?
The double footswitch can toggle either the octave & valve preamp in or out, or EQ & shape in or out. I was thinking of a sensible offer of around £330, there is someone looking at the whole rig on sunday - i'll keep you updated if it's still available after then. Thanks.
6. Congrats - nice one The Rock school course is a good course and fun too. I did the grade 8 a couple of years ago and somehow managed to get 91%. I did the grade 6 a few months before that and got a similar score - and the examiner was gorgeous too! Didn't get her number though... RGT do bass exams too, here. Just need to find some time when i'll be around to actually take it - i've booked it a couple of times but have been away with work when the time came around so cancelled. I like doing the exams, it gives me something to practice towards and get motivated. RGT also do popular music theory here
7. Frusciante, SRV, Kenwyn House, Dimebag Darrell, Page and of course... NUUUUUNNNOOOOOOO!!!! - Awesome!
8. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that i've made a point of not reading any of the above posts, comments or discussions so i could leave my own opinion without being influenced by anything anyone else has had to say. Personally, yes, i do love listening to Jaco, his first solo album is one of my favourite all time CD's. When i first starting playing i listened to it relentlessly and played a couple of his / weather report tracks in bands and loved it. Some of his stuff he's played on is too "out there" for me, i just don't get it, but his playing has always remained an influence on me. I've worn out CD's listening to Heavy weather, word of mouth, birthday concert the famous joni mitchell live concert and Jaco Pastorius the album. The highlight is the chorus riff on "come on, come over", awesome - that's exactly how i want to play, funky, fun and to the point. I use that riff as a warm up everytime i practice. The book by bill milkowski is a great read too, very well written and a good insight into his life. Sorry if i'm repeating what anyone else has said..
9. How're you getting on with the tracks Beerdragon?
10. I've tried to use it a couple of times but it hasn't worked! don't know why. Will try and check it out though.
11. Abroad on tour in Holland BUMP - OF COURSHE!
12. Ha ha, same google image result then?!?!??!
13.
Um... do you mean Whales or Wails? Just checking.
nope, i think he meant:
14.
No no no, Bon Jovi is rrrrrrock, Whitesnake is rrrrock, Europe is rrrrock, Nickleback is sh*t rrrrock
15. I've not done the same thing myself, but i have had to "rescue" people a couple of times when they've done it - this has had the fortunate result of me being VERY aware of times and restrictions. On a similar note, i have heard of "someone" using car park regulations to their benefit. They've left my, sorry, THEIR car in a 24 hr car park for several days and then "lost" their ticket when they needed to leave the car park. This means they've only had to pay the fine of 24 hours parking rather than the much more substantial price of several days. In theory not actually doing anything wrong, just playing the system....
16.
I'd only heard about it through this post, i've now downloaded it and am obsessed with it! Great tool / fun. how long before the copyright police stop it though... Between that and Stumble upon i've now got no free time left!
Ah, now i see the catch - the first advert has just interrupted my listening pleasure!
17.
It's just a place on the net where you can play / pause / wind back just about any song you like. I've set up a playlist of the band's set and use that to learn songs. I love it - it's good for playing music while you're surfing t'net.
I'd only heard about it through this post, i've now downloaded it and am obsessed with it! 18. Oh, and Stuart Zender too! awesome! I just wish i could find a copy of the book of his transcriptions which Simon Merrick did a few years back.
19.
Also love Wolstenholme - hysteria is a sweet bass line!
+1 on that. I'd also say Cass Lewis from Skunk Anansie (may be slightly over the 10 year mark though!).
20.
How do you play bass and sing .. and set God knows what midi stuff off and bass pedals with your feet? Answer = GEDDY LEE IS GOD. this is going to throw a major spanner for all the bass playing athiests
Good call, the stuff he does is amazing. I can barely co-ordinate my "singing" and playing, so the stuff Geddy and Mark King do blows me away... It may not be your type of music but you've got to acknowledge the phenomenal skill they have to do both at the same time.
21.
Oh and just about on topic but funny...have this: Si
Ha ha, that's the same guy who does the Natalie Umbrella song too. I've met him at a couple of corporate gigs, nice bloke.
22. Good luck, I always relish a challenge (i get bored VERY easily). It's a big ol bunch of songs to learn at once, but i hope it turns out ok.
