4. They're some great pics and some very impressive photoshopping too! It makes a difference from a Black n White shot of a band on an industrial site, with the singer's face close up to the lens and the other band members in the distance!!
 5.
JOIN A BAND Or, more specifically. JOIN A GOOD BAND Bass player - band = bored musician. Or anorak musician.
oh how i'd love to, unfortunately i'm away with work up to 9 months a year. The best i can do is meet up with mates when i'm back, and have a practice every now and then.. Thanks for the advice, the frustration of not progressing in intense. I'm not after playing a gazillion notes per second or being able to tap with all ten digits at once, i'll leave that to those who feel that it's for them. I just want to be able to get that little bit better every now and then and, yes, be able to turn a few heads every now and then when i do play. I work around bands all the time and i'm continuously envious of people who play every day. Lucky buggers! I guess variation in my practice regime is the key, but it's just trying to think of what to do, when, and how to structure it all in the limited time i do get to play. I keep meaning to get the occasional lesson when i can, just so an outsider can use their point of view and put their spin on it. Cheers.
 6. Hi all, I’m sure that this has been covered before, but I’m struggling with a lack of oomph. The enthusiasm is there, and the mind and fingers are willing, but I’m just not playing like I used to. Thanks to work, there is no possible way for me to have (regular) lessons, let alone be in a band and whilst I’m away from home I can only manage to squeeze in two hours of practice a couple of times a week, nothing like I used to / would like to. As a result, when I do get a chance to practice, all I do is endlessly run over the same old scales, modes, arps and all the possible connotations and variations I know. I play along with the same old tunes I know, transcribe another song in the long list of tunes I want to learn, quickly practice tapping, a token bit of slapping technique, plod through another few pages of sight reading and rattle through the fingerbusting work outs I’ve devised to keep myself nimble. This is all very good and gives instant satisfaction to know I can still play etc.. but I’m certainly not progressing at all. I’ve not really gotten any better for a couple of years now (I’ve noticed that not playing regular in a band certainly is a major factor). I’ve done the music grades up to grade 8, which helped as it gave me a goal and something to work for. It just feels like I’ve hit a wall and there is no way around it. The things I am weak at are walking and soloing (well convincingly anyway!) and I get very frustrated at not being able to improve those particular areas of my playing with my limited practice / playing time. A few years ago this amount of practice had me progressing in leaps and bounds, but I’ve definitely stalled and if anything, started to regress. If anyone has any help, tips or goals to work towards then it’d be great if you could let me know (I’m sure this topic has been posted many times before!).. Thanks, Mark
 7.
Me too. Hoping for a lot of ...Punchline and Porno... material (probably not though). Could be my last gig at the Astoria, seeing as they're tearing it down. Sad, i've seen so many bands there over the last couple of decades. Nice size too.
I'm going to that too, can't wait!! Shame the astoria is going. Good gig to go to, pain to work in, the load in is via a motor winch upstage right. The Astoria is on the site of an old pickle factory y'know..
 8. 1. Flea 2. John Paul Jones 3. Jaco Not very imaginative, but it's what i like!

 10.
Yes please. If you do post them in another thread could you give us a heads up here. Nice one, sounds like your having fun.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. I'll upload them as soon as I get an internet connection that is slightly faster than snails pace..
 11.
yeah, I figured as much. So you must have been the guy running backwards and forwards on stage before the start with the sunburst Precision (i think)?
Not me! that was Bob o'brien, i was sitting 35' on the truss above the stage operating a followspot. It was a precision, not sure of the exact models that danny and Neil use, but i can find out if anyone wants to know.
 12.
The only bass thing that didn't seem to come off too well was the "solo-y" thing with Roger Taylor and the upright bass, but Neil didn't do this, he did it with Jamie (Moses)... I'm guessing this was something he had rehearsed with Danny.
Without wanting to say anything controversial and shoot the golden goose, you're far from the only person with that opinion - i however have no opinion and think that everything is great and perfect. That duet is usually done with Danny and Roger, with the teasing intro riff to under pressure being played this way, which isn't and looks like won't be, included in the set.
 13.
He was my first bass hero so there is no Queen without John Deacon in my eyes.
I'm sure he's having a great time, playing golf relaxing and counting the royalties as they come tumbling in. He's always been a great, in my eyes. Who else can play in front of 100,000 people in those tiny denim shorts... Great bassist. solid and reliable. Not sure if this is the place for them, but whilst we're / i'm on the subject, would anyone be interested if i posted some tour photos here - as requested in another thread?
 14. As far as i'm aware - so don't quote me on this, i think Danny plays / played in the U.S. version of we will rock you and was the best all rounder during the auditions for the last tour. I don't know if Neil Murray wasn't involved in the process at that time. I presume Danny was kept on as there's no need for change just for the sake of it. Correct me if i'm wrong though - i'm no Queen expert, it's just hearsay i've picked up along the way.
 15. During the load-in at Cardiff t'other day, we received the news that Queen's bassist - Danny Miranda - had unfortunately fallen ill. Initially our first thoughts were that the gig would be pulled and we'd get another day off, but then i had one of those crazy daydreams that i'm sure we all have. I mentioned to my peers that i knew the set, i was a decent bass player, i can read music very well and i'd obviously seen every show of the tour so far - surely a perfect replacement! I was jesting as i knew it wouldn't really come to anything, and we all just assumed that the gig would be cancelled. It then emerged over our "will-it-won't-it-happen" long lunch that Neil Murray had been drafted in with hours to go and would be taking over the bass duties for the next couple of shows. We then finished the setup of the gig and i waited with morbid anticipation to see how he'd get on. Neil had spent the bus journey with the MD and guitarist learning the set and nailed it! He played a perfect set - i was watching with a very close eye - and i guess certainly pulled it out of the bag and was superb, especially given the notice he'd been given for the show. Very impressive! Oh well, my daydream of replacing a poorly bassist on a show i'm working on will have to wait for another tour.....
 16.
Do you take this on the plane as hand luggage or in a suitcase or what? I saw one go on ebay last week for £220 and was contemplating but know nothing of them.
I take it in it's own padded case which comes with it. It's a bit long, basically the same size as a normal bass in length, but it is considerably narrower so some airlines - especially the budget ones, tend to fuss about it. but if you ask nicely they're usually ok. I like it, it's simple and does the job, it obviously hasn't got the best sound in the world, but as a tool for a fretboard work out, it does the job perfectly.
 17. Also, if you've got a Mac, then try the phobia bundle: http://www.majorthird.com/ It's great for honing your listening skills etc if you don't have your axe with you, and a steal for it's price too. Great product.
 18. I'm always away with work and i've got the Aria Sinsonido bass. It's pretty lightweight, breaks down to basically a fretboard and headphones plug straight into it. I use the Line 6 guitar port thing too and think it's great.
 19. "Just Because" by Jane's Addiction - awesome guitar riff and song. & "Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in" - the version by Reef - great band, wish they were still going..
 20.
Im perfectly happy with my penis 100%
Amusing that you say that YouMa, 'cos the icon pic you've got for your profile is of James Harries - the child antique prodigy. Who underwent a gender reassignment operation - paid for by Max Clifford, and is now a transsexual called Lauren. Clearly not 100% happy with his / her penis! Don't ask me how i know, it was one of those pub "do you remember such-and-such" conversations that went to it's inevitable conclusion of having to know all the facts. Sorry, pointless tangent post over!
 21.
New pants required!!
Ha ha, now that WAS funny... Nice one. I was even panicking on your behalf....
 22.
Can't see it as it says it is no longer available.
To be honest i'd not actually watched the link, i just read the title of the post and wondered if anyone actually cared if anyone held the record for the "fastest" bass player, bit like having a record for the, er, i dunno, hotest water :- surely no-one cares. But, i did a quick google on the name and subject and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u-GrHy6rLI Some bits of the vid show some interesting technique, the rest of it.. er.....
 23. I stumbled across this after a series of click and turns on t'interweb http://www.4to40.com/recordbook/index.asp?id=2945 Are you as underwhelmed as me?
 24.
We use Scream studios in Croydon. LOTS of rooms and a keyboard available. Good rates. Also try Resident (as recommended above) in Willesden, but the rooms are getting expensive. Or Alaska studios opposite Waterloo.
Yup, i'll second that. Scream is great. Each rehearsal room door has a different classic album on it, nice inside too. Can never get the bloody coffee machine to work though...
 25. Personally i've got the EBS Bass IQ and the Maxon AF-9, both excellent pedals. I've had the deep impact and korg G5 which were very cool too. The Korg seemed to have the edge for the wah / env filter style effects - both on quality and for the wide range of options available for this style of effect.
