2.
yes the b sides where excellent. sadly i have every single on all cd versions and vinyl when available. my favourite?... Resignation.
Yup, me too, took me ages to get hold of the purple tape...
 3.
My favorite was Consideration. I remember making a big deal about it at the time and demanding to my g/f that it be played at my funeral.
Ha ha! me too!
 4. Personally i love 'em. It's just my type of music, and very good live - I went to see them umpteen times and i'm also in one of their videos! Nice bunch of guys to boot too. Maybe they're not everyone's cup of tea, but no band ever is.
 5.
+100000000000
I agree.. Who's Matt Freeman, or am I missing some in-joke?
 6. I love mine, I always wanted one since I started playing. After listening to, adoring and seeing Chili Peppers, Skunk Anansie, Reef live loads of times I wanted one even more. I played a few before i bought one which just fuelled the fire to get one. When i could first afford one about ten years ago, and I eventually got one I was over the moon. It's my main bass and I love it and has never let me down (dammit, touch wood!) I appreciate it's not for every style of music or for every player, but it's horses for courses. Besides, if we all got on and had the same opinion, then just how imagine how dull it'd be without all of the arguing and bickering about pointless things!!
 7. Also, i know of a family where the dad and older brother are left handed. The guitars (electric and acoustic) in the family were handed down from father to son as the son's progress improved. The younger son was RIGHT handed, and could pick up the acoustic guitar as it was re-strung right handed. The father did try to suggest that he play left handed so he could start to play his electric when the time was right without having to buy a new right handed electric. It didn't work, so he had to put his hand in his pocket!
 8. My best mate is left-handed and used to be a very good guitarist. At his first lesson he picked up the acoustic guitar left handed, and the teacher said "oh, you're left handed, give me a few minutes to re-string it for you so you can play it more comfortably". He replied "no, i want to play now!" - so became a righty. He then went on to become an awesome drummer, and played that right-handed just because the drum kit he learned on was righty, yet drinks, writes, smokes and picks his nose with his left hand. Nice.
 9. This one isn't actually me, but my best mate. At a Chad Smith drum clinic at Colchester Arts Centre, my mate couldn't think of something sensible to say to Chad - one of his heroes, got rather tongue tied and asked Chad if he was "implessed with East Angria" (sic). Chad just looked a bit sheepish and rather politely replied "well, er, i don't really get a chance to look around much, but what i've seen is nice". Not the most hilarious of stories, but funny enough for us to be laughing at him years later..
 10. Hi all, here is a list of books that I’m selling. I’m having a clear out before the impending house move (it’s shocking how much room they take up) and these are some that I’m looking to send to a better home. They’re all in very good or good condition, a couple of them have pencil marks on a couple of pages (I don’t have time to look through every page of every book to rub them out) and a couple of covers have aged slightly, but the actual content and music is in 100% condition. I’ve also managed to lose a couple of the accompanying CD’s, so I’ve re-burnt them from mp3’s (I’ve mentioned this next to each book where I’ve done this). Price includes P&P and also bear with me if I don't get back to you immediately as I'll be pretty busy work - wise. I think I’ve priced them fairly – please feel free to check the links next to each item for a description of the book and also it’s RRP. All books are sent via recorded delivery to avoid any issues etc.. Cheers, Mark Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik – Bass & guitar £10 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium (not CD isolated track version) £10 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Greatest hits £8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - by the way £8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother’s milk (full band score) £10 Red Hot Chili Peppers - what hits? £8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication £8 Red Hot Chili Peppers - One hot minute £8 Pantera, Bass Anthology Series £10 AC/DC – Bassology £9 Play Bass With Muse – £6 Jaco Pastorius – The Greatest Jazz – Fusion Bass Player £7
 11. I worked for a band at this festival on Sunday, it seems to fit into this thread rather well!
 12.
small penis
Ha ha, probably, also he's attached his AAA pass to his belt, so you're forced to look at said area to check his 'credentials'...
 13. My first ever amp was a peavey, my mum mis-read the badge on the front of the amp and for ages thought it said pervy.
 14.
Get out
Ha ha ha!! That made me chuckle!

 17.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is it that Mark has round his slapping thumb, I've looked everywhere for and answer, but I just can't find it! Cheers Josh
It's just a strip of normal gaffa tape, he wraps it around his thumb for when he plays. Most of the time the strip of tape is hanging on his mic stand ready for when he comes on stage. Can't remember why he uses it - he thwacks the strings so hard and it's either to stop him mangling his thumb or the strings. He usually throws it into the crowd after each gig..

 19.
3 valves, you were lucky. I had to put up with my mother shouting at me because i kept dropping an oiled up slide all over her cream carpet! Garry
Heh heh, those with a dirty mind might wonder if that was a euphemism for something.
 20. As always, i've decided to post without reading any of the above comments. Personally, i can read music, and i'd like to think i can do it quite well too. I transcribe everything I learn in standard notation and buy and download music in this form too. This is only because i really enjoy reading music but please don't read this post as a self praising rant from me. Kudos to philbillbass, because i also first learnt to read and enjoy music by playing trumpet too, i reached grade 6 before i realised 4 strings were more fun than 3 valves. I use the fact i can read as much as i can and it is almost my downfall because i spend almost too much of my spare / practice time trying to perfect my reading skills whilst feeling that i should be spending more time just getting out there, playing with people and enjoying life. Transcribing tunes is nice because i can pull books off of the bookshelf for years to come and know that all the info for any tune i've learnt is already there. Where as when i do turn up at rehearsals (for a very relaxed "fun" band), i'm the one playing the first couple of run throughs from a book perfectly without locking into the band, where as the others are fluffing through yet having a great time rehearsing. I've done gigs where it's been essential that i've had to be able to read, yet the best gigs of my life have been bashing a few standard rock classics out that everyone knows down the pub So, in summary, i'd say it depends on what you want to do. I'm not a professional player, but i love the fact i can read. I'm crap at advice really!
 21. I always wanted to play guitar from an early age, but didn't get one as a kid. When i was at school doing my GCSE's i was the only pupil in my music class (!) and i pestered my music teacher to buy one. He said he'd comprimise and buy a bass guitar, and also a drum kit as they could be used in the school orchestra. I practiced bass at school and eventually managed to buy a guitar at home, but i soon realised, for whatever reason, that bass was more fun. My best mate was an (awesome) guitarist at the time but thought drums were cooler so switched, then subsequently became an awesome drummer.. git! It was around this time that i first heard BloodSugarSexMagik and at the time I actually did think Flea was the best bass player in the world became my number 1 inspiration. The moment when i was able to play the whole album note for note was a monumental milestone for me. Although i know he may not be technically the best, fastest, neatest, clinically perfect, most popular, best looking, coolest, bassist who can do all of the tricks, techniques, tipping, tapping, tweeting and walking that others can do on demand 24/7, he's still the man that got me into playing seriously, so in my books he's alright. (I feel this maybe for another thread though.. ) There is no best bass player in the world, it's all subjective - my mum thinks I am, but who am i to disappoint her!?!
