1. I actually played this week again too! 4th gig in 6 years now (all of which were this year). A very good friend of mine got married on Saturday and the (very good) band he booked for the reception let my old band do a few numbers with the groom joining us on fiddle. Of course we were all a few sheets to the wind and had only one rushed rehearsal earlier in the week, but it was still fun and the punters seemed to enjoy it almost as much as the proper band. I've a feeling the the band's drummer wasn't too impressed with my mate's less delicate touch on his beloved kit, but as a whole they were all great, tight, friendly and very generous to let us use their amps etc. However my darling stingray 5-string's intermittent and untraceable fault resurfaced during the gig and cut out a few times whilst we were playing, i really should take it to the doctors now, and stop putting it off! - Any suggestions on where to take it in London?
2. Two thumbs up from me! (no pun intended).
3. Mumford & sons - Winter winds Levellers - Far From home Levellers - The Road Led Zep - Kashmir. After not playing a gig for 6 years, my old band did a mini-set at my own wedding two months ago (great fun) and a close friend of ours is getting married this weekend and she wants us to play again at her reception, seeing as we'll be there anyway! The groom is an awesome fiddle player and wants in, so we're doing the above, plus a couple of other oldies. Should be great!
4. Ha haaa! I love it when things like this happen. Good work all round!
5.
And as if by magic... here it is. If anyone who knows it would like to pass critique, please do. I haven't transcribed that much stuff before, so it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts. (I'm a little unsure as to whether the bass actually plays those double stops in bars 28-30; it's all mushed in the mix with the clavinet. Also, the G and Bm7 chords in the main groove are only kind of implied, but I threw them in anyway. )
Good work, what program did you use to transcribe that / write it out? I finale notepad, but i'm bored of it's simplicity and inability to do a few things that i'd like it to do!
6.
Nice pics bluesparky! Sorry, haven't read this thread since I last posted so didn't see that you'd be there on the main stage. I was working Artist Liaison for PRS - would have said "Hi!" if I'd known....
No worries, i'm on the lighting crew for the whole run of the Hyde Park gigs - it's nice to be doing some outside gigs when it's not raining for a change. Hard rock calling is all done and dusted now, (i'm not sure i'd call Macca & Stevie "hard rock" though) and we've just set up the kings of leon. It's a hell of a show, look out for the back wall of lights if anyone's going (or actually gives two hoots about lighting too, that is!). Cheers,
7.
I'll be there! I'm working backstage all 3 days
Cool, what're you up to there? I'm working on all the Hyde Park shows on the main stage, until 4th July.
8. Dammit, i want one. What are they?
9. Yup! let me wipe my fingerprints off the bottle, and it's all yours. I'll even through in a lighter for you! ha ha
10. Due to parting company with a r/c buggy recently, i'm left with a gallon of R/C nitro fuel. It is: Byron Fuels Race Gen 2 Premium R/C Car Fuel 1 gallon 20% nitromethane 16% lubrication £24 new but free for collection from Clapham south. (if this is utterly the wrong place to post this, then oops, sorry!).
11. Enjoy it, i love the 02, i personally think it's the best venue of it's kind in Europe, and i've toured through most of them! I've played to an empty 02, whilst borrowing the backline of the band i was working for, but it doesn't compare to you.. Have a good 'un, nice on!
12. All those speakers have clearly left little for the lighting budget, i'm not sure i like that!!
13.
My brother is an award winning chef...go to his house for dinner you get egg and chips if ya lucky...very nice ones though! I sell cars for a living....my Corvette Stingray has had a set of badges sitting in the passenger footwell for well, must be 6 months and haven't been fitted yet... My painter has BMW with a ding in the rear 1/4 for must be 3 months... My mechanic has a 4x4 Truck with 2nd gear syncro' out of it for must be 3 years... My friend who manages the best loans and fianance for car's is always skint... ....do bass players who earn their living from bass playing, still mess about at home? I'm hoping bass breaks the norm...
I'm a lighting tech by trade, our porch light bulb blew ages ago and the missus is still giving me grief for not replacing it.... Not sure about the bass player side of your question though!
14. Me!! My band is playing, only 4 songs, but it's kinda a tradition now after we've played at the other members' weddings and it's pretty much expected by everyone now!! Only 6 weeks to go...
15. Sold, to a good home. Thanks for the enquiries, i was quite surprised at how many people were interested. Cheers
16.
I feel you mate, I too am paying for my wedding this year and it's unbelivable, have a bump, and make sure you put some bass gear on your wedding list
Cheers mate! That's nice of you - enjoy yours too.
17.
PM sent...
Replied. Ta.
18.
I take it no interest in trade due to circumstances?
No mate, sorry, i need the money - who'd have thought how much orders of service, toasting wine and canapes etc cost?!?! Thanks though - please don't tell me what you'd have traded, as i'd probably be gutted that i'd miss out on something i'd really quite like!!!!! Cheers..
19. It breaks my heart but thanks to a slow work year so far and a wedding to pay for i'm having to sell these bad boys. It's the first time i've had to sell my gear to pay the bills and i'm gutted! They're barely a year old and i've not gigged them. They sound great and very powerful. I bought them from the Bass Merchant a year ago, and they've got the uber-expensive funky padded covers with them too. I'd rather sell them as a pair (for the sake of ease) . DB210 - 2 x 10" speaker cab - with tweeter - 8 ohms - 350W - 59lbs £310 DB115 - 1 x 15" speaker cab - with castors - 8 ohms - 400W - 71lbs £375 Check out the official blurb here As i said, ideally i'd like to sell them as a pair and i'd prefer collection (I live in sunny Clapham). Thanks
20. I've also bought lots of stuff from both the Bass Gallery & Bass Merchant (amps, cabs & basses). Both places are always a pleasure to visit, deal with and talk to on the phone. If i need anything I'll always go to either shop first before anywhere else, depending if i'm at home in london or passing up the A12 to my mum's in suffolk!
