Wow just had a look at the squier on Thomann, thats a fine looking Bass! Good choice!

I've got 2 of them - one bought 'B' stock from Thomann same as you. One bought s/h on here. Both have the same knob resistance. I agree there's not a huge amount of resistance when turning the knob, but as it's only a single knob on there it's easy to remember where it should be set, so I don't worry too much about it staying put in transit (it does move when it's in the pedaltrain soft case). As others have said, if you're not happy, you should return.

Yep - Stingrays for me. Up til the last couple of years, I'd primarily played with a pick, and they never seemed to really work for me. Tried 3 of them. Now I play almost exclusively with fingers, and really think I should give them another go...

My alignment OCD only kicks in if the strings aren't equidistant and centered on the neck. Pole piece alignment doesn't bother me unless it adversely affects the individual string volumes...YMMV!

They do show up on Ebay periodically. Pedaltrain don't sell the cases (hard or soft) separately so you won't find them in any shops..

I've been using the TC spectracomp for some time now. Only use it on the standard 'out of the box' setting and I'm finding it really very good indeed. Anything up to midday gives you mild compression with some fattening of the sound and going past midday gets you more into the 'limiting' side of things. Of course it's all pretty subjective, as every compressor will react differently depending on the player. But certainly, the toneprint editor for the TC means you can pretty much alter ANY parameter, so technically, you should be able to get something out of it that suits you..

Use a lighter touch and let the amp do the work. Even the more 'beastly' bassists you could think of play with a lighter touch than you might imagine.
