1. I don't agree either, things like that are what splits bands up. Talk about your differences, and if you can't continue without criticizing, picking holes, and trying to out do each other, call it a day.
2. hmm, I've never been able to buy a legitimate product from HK, I certainly wouldn't go over there with the intention of spending large amounts of money on musical instruments. Don't forget aswell that many retailers there will double their prices as soon as they seen some European guy walk in..
3. I think the best thing is the marcus miller thing the guy posted, just start out with thumb, no plucks with the fingers. Using fingers with the thumb too, I started learning it with the clarke tune lopsy lu, it's a simple enough riff so that you can get a feel for it.
4. no recording gear I'm afraid. It's got a tonezone bridge/chopper/paf joe pickups. It's an RG Prestige 2570EX VSL. I'm looking for 350, very fair price. It comes with the Ibanez Hardcase. The body has a lot of paint wear at the bottom, and on the corners, a little ding on the front beside the tremolo, and there's also a 2" by 1" mark on the back in the middle where the paint was stripped slighty. Otherwise flawless condition. No cracks or anything like that. Neck and tremolo all pro set up, frets leveled/dressed not too long ago.
5.
Yeah, looks a bit bulky. I think my old head is in my parents garage, it's a guitar one with reverb on it. It stopped working about 10 years ago. If it's still there you can have it. Might be worth fixing ?
Thanks for the offer, might take you up on it alright.
6. seen that, don't really have space for a combo.
7. Anyone here have one? I'm always keeping an eye for one of those old heads. We used to have one at a studio in college, great sounds..
8. I have one of those hartke XL cabs, but it's a 2X15. I use my markbass head through it, it's very good, but stupidly heavy..
9. I reckon it's true though, crap prices, crap customer service, crap website, and now more and more people are buying their strings and other accessories online cause it's so much cheaper...
10. the sound control location in birmingham is terrible, you have to go the subway to get to it. I've been in there many times and never seen one customer but me and the people I was with... PMT location is just as bad, you have to walk through some real nasty places to get to it.
11. I find p basses one of the easiest basses to slap, because of the pickguard, the distance between that and board/fret is quite small, especially if you have a low action which is what you want for slap bass. Same applies to jazzes I guess. My jackson has no guard and a big distance between the body and the board, and I really think it makes things more difficult, especially with thumbing..
12.
What exactly are straplocks? Because ive heard of some basses having to be modded to accomodate them, and other people just buying them willy nilly. And me, using these little circle plastic things :S
Well, I use dimarzio clip lock straps, all you have to do is unscrew the strap thingies, then screw in the clip locks, no modifications. Totally secure.
13. Even if you had the money, would you really pay someone with 12 feedback in Taiwan 1200 quid?
14. Improv wise there's some books called The Art Of Improvisation by Bob Taylor, which have lots to take in, but are very good. Technique wise, just learn your favourite records, there must be many bassists whose technique you admire, learn their stuff.
15. yeah, I was tempted by what he said about the improved B and E, but still a bit too much for me. might try them at some stage.
16. Tell you what, after reading this thread, I was so worried about posting my bass that I was selling because I had no hardcase, I was even considering bussing it to where it had to go just incase, only costs a tenner like, but the guy collected thank god.
17. did you message those guys I told you about? The one offered 400 for mine, maybe he's still after one.
18.
I'd claim against the person I bought it off, not previous owners. They don't owe me a duty of care and I know I cannot pursue it legally.
I see what you are saying, but when it's a tightly knit community like this, it's a different situation.
19.
In a legal sale, the last buyer really should accept his /her losses, and you may feel some ethical need to act but there is not reason why you should more than to express genuine explanation and empathy, unless you have deeps pockets or a genuine propensity towards philanthropy.
I wonder what you'd be saying if you were the 3rd owner of the bass in question.. Really think people should remember this when buying instruments on eBay. Remember, that if there's a problem not as described, you will get refunded by paypal, infact, you could put your foot through the neck upon receipt and still claim your money back without any difficulty, but you only have 45 days to do so.
20. Yeah, you did the right thing, you're obviously a decent guy. As for pursuing this guy, it just wouldn't be worth it for the amount of money you paid. You could try a solicitors letter, but I'd probably leave it there and accept your loss.
21. you don't lose anything by using it, eventually the thumb just slides, you aren't even aware of it, although there are plenty of passages where you'll want to keep the thumb anchored, like quick string skipping stuff etc.
