1.
haha, my bad, i didn't mean to start a 'thing.' I got an update from Jon this evening so no worries about getting those pics. i can last a while with the pics he has just sent me. Peace, Rob
me too!
  2. time for another update! Jon managed to source some ebony that would be the right size for the fret board - remember it's longer than usual due to the 2 extra frets and the bend-well. He let the wood stand for a couple of weeks after giving it a quick planing up and it's now fine, nice and stable. It's been sanded and he's installed the LED'S which have been fitted inside small brass rings. He has routed a curve down into the body and will veneer this with ebony so it looks very sleek. The board was slightly shorter than the rosewood one, so the end of the neck is revealed, but there's still a bit more to do on this. There will be an access hole for the truss rod, but he's still undecided whether to put it here or in the end of the neck, although he says either will be fine. here's the neck. showing the LED's in brass rings. a bit difficult to see, but showing the bend well.
  3.
He really needs to get his website up and running ASAP, in my opinion.
I've been telling him that for years now!
  4.
Any chance of a favour, those chaps who are visiting Jon tomorrow? I've been really good and not asked him for updates and just let him get on with building mine, but is there any chance one of you could snap a few pics of my half finished bass? It's a single-cut, 33inch, black walnut body, massur birch top, maple neck, ebony or rosewood fingerboard (whatever he decided). i think that should be enough info to recognise it. Thanks in advance. Peace, Rob
me too! Mines the dark purple one with the handle in the body, and an ebony fret board. thanks
  5.
Saw this on another forum about blues harps "One more on your 'never' list... 6. Never p155 off the band and leave the harps lying around whilst you step out of the rehearsal room." What's your tip?
I've heard this this happened to Van Morrison.
I like all the ideas. You guys probably need to be just a little bit tighter though for the full effect to come across. Either your drummer or your guitarist or both are rushing a bit. Wicked riffs and grooves though.
+1 the overall sound of the band is great. Reminds me a bit of Mind Funk. Which is a good thing
  7. isobaric speakers have a speaker design where two drive units are mounted in tandem usually made with subwoofers. - is from Wikipedia, but I still don't really know what that means
  8. Can't give a vote because I could choose all 4 options.
Never had a problem with either extension key on my Kubicki's, one is 20 years old, the other 21, maybe yours has been used more. I'm sure Phil has a fix for this if there is a problem, just like he has for most things. Back in the days when the internet was an undiscovered gem to me (92/93) and Newsgroups were the way forward, I contacted Phil as I had a problem with my Fender/Kubicki neck and had read on a newsgroup on The Bottom Line that there were a batch of around 200 Fender Kubickis that were made in 1989 that weren't sealed properly. Lo and behold mine was one of those, rang Phil, he confirmed it, sent the neck off and he overhauled it, new fret job, slimmer neck as per my wishes, turned round in 4-6 weeks. Splendid chap. Mike
+1 on Phil. I got in touch with the company a couple of times about various things, and Phil replied personally.
and better quality control and handmade instead of the more mass produced techniques they use now i believe (could be wrong but thats my understanding) and dont have a go at warwick neck, my $$ has one of the slimmest and fasted necks I've ever had the pleasure of laying my hands on
don't believe you
  13.
1989 as well!
does that mean it's got a nice neck and not the tree trunks Warwick's normally have?

  15.
I'd reccomend tech soundsystems cab, I've got a 2x10 and its wonderful!
I'll see your 2x10, and raise you a 2x12! + the 1 as to their wonderfulness!

I used to have 2, one by Phil and one from the Fender custom shop. Lovely basses, always created a stir when I gigged . I gotta say though, the Fender one had better electronics and was tidier inside. Apart from the weight the only issue I had was that the lever that release the E string for the D, loses tension after a number of years and creates fret buzz all down the string. Have you experienced this? My custom build has the drop D but hopefully has rectified this.

  18. If you want cheap 'n cheerful how about the Behringer - Sansamp clone?
  19. You know those paintings by Dali, with the melting clocks? It looks as though it could be the bass equivalent. Can't wait to see the body contoured and painted! BTW what colour are you going for?
  20. I read the first page of this thread a while ago, I see it again at 6 pages long and check out the last page and there's arguments about using the word gay? In a thread about expensive basses
  21. I like I can't afford
  22. that is lovely - apart from being the wrong way round!
  23. The MU have lobbied for their members to be able to take instruments aboard as hand luggage. It's still a bit of a lottery though with inconsistent policies across airlines and countries. But as a member you have more chance than a non-member.
  24. Best gig I've ever seen was Twisted Sister but tomorrow I have a jazz lecture on jazz improvisation from legendary jazz sax player Peter King
