1. one of those dodgy long haired types and a Basschat Moderator! Best stay well clear... Nah obviously just joshing, I bought my pointy Hamer off him on Saturday, met up in a Bristol train station and had a chat before heading back to that London. Top bass, top price, top bloke
  2.
My 6th Birthday. Weird!
all the more weird, because if you write it backwards you get 7 8 9 10 11 oh bu993r! Just realised I should have put 1st October 1987! Doh
  3.
Fancy a date?
ok, wot about about the 1st November 1987? That was an interesting one.

  5.
hi guys, tomorrow my bass leaves for Italy ( and I´ll follow him very soon), so that this has to go. good conditions! 20quid + shipping (very cheap as I can package it as large letter) + paypal fees Londoners: we can meet each other within zone 1-2
will pm you as soon as I've posted this.
  6. I had the Dalek. A m-500 head into an 8T and 16B. Awesome tone, it's all there, if anything there is too much tonal choice . I miss the limiter too. I only got rid of it because it wouldn't fit in to my new car.
  7.
Assume that increasing the rate of decay will lead to a higher attack setting?
8. Just wondering what peoples preferences are and why. I think on an amp I've never had a great compressor, but I used to love the limiter on my old PJB M-500, just one pot, simple and effective. But in terms of fattening up the sound it has to be compression?
  9. email from Jon: We're not far off, I'm hoping I'll get most of it together this weekend. All the 'making' is done and its just a case of assembly. I have to spray the headpiece but thats a quick job. If I get it all together this weekend then it should be ready for you in about 10 days from then, just so it has plenty of time to settle down and I can do any necessary adjustments to the setup. so only 2 weeks to go

    RIP R,5,R,5...

Nic who was doing the Normative Reasoning research? I had a few emails with him about it. Sad day
  11. Just got one and I'm loving it Love the dirt blend, and the player settings in the instructions, and the fact that it fits in my gig bag.
  12.
The new issue is the best one in ages.

Just got the latest one today. For my money, the best issue yet.
it would be as my subscription has just lapsed
  13.
I was once told that i stand like a bassist. Still not sure what he meant by that.
at the back out of the way
  14.

I like the way it is now, kinda reminds me of Vernon Reid's ESP guitars in the 90's and Steve Vai's plastecine Jems.
  15. when you understand why the C string on a 6 string bass is a C, and not a B, as on a guitar.
  16.
Yeah i much prefer a good bassline than a bass solo/shred unless its a well composed solo. some bassists can go fast and still sound good though like john paul jones, flea, Jaco and Others
when I was teaching I would encourage learning a bit of slap, pop, and tap. I think a bit of flashy playing can aid development of technique, and be an introduction to new styles. Obviously application of technique is important, and should only be used where appropriate - such as to keep the gig moving if the guitarist breaks a srting/strap/lead etc, step forward the bassist and entertain But mainly because it can be fun.
  17.
Having said that, these days most popular music still seems to be played on 60 year old Fender and Ampeg designs, so what do I know!!
if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
  18. Here's a form, write the answer or score 1-10 What I purchased: MXR Bass DI Arrived in how many days: a couple - problem was at my end NOT his! Packaging score: 10/10 Quality score: 10/10
  19.
Have you had any updates?
No I've a bunch of gigs next month. I'm hoping...
  20.
Welcome, 3 fingers all the way mate! Get some funny looks when you keep up with a galloping guitar whilst NOT using a pick! I can't do 16th notes your way though as they always sound like broken triplets due to the accent. For 16ths I go: r-m-i-m r-m-i-m Works better on the brain. That's forwards and backwards. Opens up a whole new world this eh? Yeah man, you can span them over 3 strings as well instead of 2 now! Eh? My ring finger is longer than my index...erm...what is normal? But it certainly whallops the strings if you ain't careful!
I can't do them your way! Leading from the -i- is something I need to work on. I've noticed that for straight forward pedalling i tend to use i-r-i-r- etc. For me it sounds more consistent, perhaps because my i and r, are closer in length?
  21.
What I did find rather strange was that only half a dozen of us made the effort to attend this so lets hope for a few more if Nick is good enough to invite us down again.
would love to have come, but being without a car at the moment didn't help
  22.
Sorry, no. Sold pending the usual. If the sale falls through i'll let you know
ok.
  23. I would probably go for the worlds most expensive bass. The $250,000 bass guitar, The Ritter Royal Flora Aurum, was built by Jens Ritter, a luthier, or stringed instrument maker, from Germany. This luxurious bass has a body carved from a rare, solid piece of maple while the nut is carved from 10,000-year-old mammoth ivory. The fingerboard is decorated with a floral inlay pattern made of 24-karat gold. There’s even a black diamond set in platinum decorating each leaf. The bridge, tuner buttons and knobs are cast in gold. The knobs hold an additional embellishment: they are both topped with brilliant-cut diamonds (3.3 carats).
  24.
A few years ago I was looking for a nice s/h Musicman Stingray 5. After a long time trawling the shops and ebay, I finally gave up. Then one day I happened to go into a local small shop and spotted the perfect one - 1997 vintage sunburst. maple board, played like a dream, absolute mint condition. I got a great deal on it. I couldn't believe it. Then about 12 months later, in a fit of total madness, I sold it to buy an orange Bongo 5, which I kept for 5 minutes. I've regretted this ever since. Why do we do these stupid things? Anyone else done this, or simply bought something because it looked a bit 'different'?
no, but I was once on a promise that I turned down because I had a rehearsal. I regret that now
  25. was unable to get a lift, so am at work instead. Maybe next year...
