1. i rest my Flying V against the amp, but I always stand it on something padded/soft and not directly on the floor. Edited, to add I lean it so the contact is with the strings and not the neck.
2. Playing above first octave = dismissal depressingly accurate
3. Poison - in 1987 or Alice Cooper - now.
4.
Not everyone is a musician, and let's face it, unless we are content and believe we will never be able to fully express ourselves on our instruments, we are frustrated as musicians. We can't float the boat quickly enough, or at all. Not every note satisfies. We wish the beautiful mistake was deliberate, or the deliberate was a beautiful mistake, depending on your personal aesthetic, approach to learning, and confidence. We mistake passion for ability, ability for passion, wondering if people will dance to our new grooves, needing affirmation of some sort. You are probably a frustrated musician, but what is it that stops you accepting that the way you approach life and music is what you are? And stops you accepting and hearing your unique voice for what it is? Preventing you from developing your own truth as a musician and as a musical person. What makes you doubt your capacity to delight yourself, and touch other people?
i now play guitar in a band, therefore my ego does not allow for such things
5. my Shuker is short scale, but as there are 2 extra frets (a-la Kubicki) at the top it's not noticeable.
6. being a beassist isn't what I do, it's what I am. i will probably spend the rest of my life always searching for that one bit of gear that's gonna make everything right - even though it may not be needed or even exist. For me it's the journey rather than the destination.
7.
The Owl - Rodley (outskirts of Leeds) £3.10 a pint - thieving ***** - so it was sh*t for that reason and I'll never go back.
£3.10 seems quite reasonable to me. I must have been in that London too long.
8. i remember one went on here a few years ago for about £900.00. Should've pulled the trigger on that. Not sure why the money thing is an issue for gigging, I know bassists who gig their vintage basses (worth £K's) and guitarists who gig their top end LP's (worth £K's). Jen's makes his basses to be played.
9.
Seriously - The first time I saw I M , Steve sang because their singer at the time , Paul Dianno , had a bad throat. When I met Steve after a gig at which Paul sang a couple of months later I told him they should get rid of him because he (Steve) had done a better job and that they were sh*te with Paul. The look he gave Dave Murray and some mangement bloke with them tells me this was not news to the band.
was that the Unity Hall gig in Wakefield?
10.
OK, what do you want to know? It's back from the tech...bad pots, bad wiring. Pots were 300K (which I'm assured elsewhere are what Gibson are currently using), so these have been upped to 500K units, and the wiring all new. Now it sounds fanblummingtastic; hotter than my others, so I'll do some adjusting in a live setting. All good! P
Gibson's less than stellar QC then. glad it's sorted!
11.
Hang on in, if I was'nt such an old git and could actually carry this rig I'd have bought a banger and done a swap years ago.....
The cab is very light, and the combo not as heavy as you might think. I've removed my posts refering to trades as I'm holding out for a sale.
12. interested to see how this pans out. Gibson's QC often receives poor press, hopefully it won't be anything too serious.
13.
They did it first
Vanilla Fudge and Iron Butterfly were doing 'heavy' stuff before Sabbath.
14. including guitar playing, I think the only musical group/genre (with musical instruments) I haven't been in is reggae. Not, I hasten to add, through any dislike of reggae.
15.
Flickr album from last night's gig: http://www.flickr.co...936213829/show/
Nice to see Alf looking well.
16. You can probably tell by the lack of bumpage that I'm not desperate to sell bump!
17. Yup. Attached you can see my all in one ramp/thumb rest/pup cover on my Shuker. for me makes all the difference. My playing style comes from classical guitar so I haven't had to adjust except for having shorter nails.
18. haven't read all the posts previously, but any song can be done at least adequately by a 3 piece if you consider arrangement and use of fx. edited due to spotting grammer and spelling mistakes the second after hitting 'post'.
19. bump?
20. V nice, will be interested to hear how your first gig with it goes.
21.
Both great bands in their time and liked by people at the time. As you are obviously all (most) under 25 and were not born when On Through the Night and New Jersey came out, you are clearly well qualified to throw ridicule at music your Dads listened to. In 15 yrs time, remember your attitude when your children laugh at the old man tripe you are currently listening to And ducks Too close to 50 to call and toured in the 80's with as much hair as I could muster. Thank goodness these days I can save a fortune in gel and spray
this. without the ducking
22.
Sorry , but on the radio this evening , I heard 'Animal' , then 'Bad Medicine' . Aaargh,my ears!! Both cheesy, Coca Cola , safe music. Apologies to fans of both bands mentioned. I know that the musicianship,is fantastic and Leppard have fantastic (possibly over produced) harmonies. But, surely others here feel my pain?
Great songs, great bands. Offhand can't really think of any band who write and play as well in their 50's as they did in their 20's?
23. thread revival! I've seen that this has some guitar amps along with the bass ones. How do they sound? Can this be used for both? ta!
