Ta for the help! There's one on the bay for £50 plus postage, but that looks a bit dear compared to what others have gone for. It looks a bit simple (which is good for me!), do you reckon it's best just in terms of quality? I should have said that I'll be using a PC instead of a Mac, so I guess I'll need the 96k version?

Hahaha - I lied! It's exactly another boring 'which interface shall I get' thread! OK, so apologies for the trickery. With all of us being stuck at home there's a few threads all over the forums about recording from home so I thought I'd add to the pile. I've read the Beginners guide (which is great btw - thank you!) and am looking at interfaces but, seeing as every muso had this idea a few weeks back and I'm late to the party, quite a few shops are low on stock so I thought I'd gather some expert opinions on what I could buy that'll turn up before we're all released back into the wild. I'm looking at what I can get for about £50 and wouldn't mind your opinions/experiences/pros/cons etc with what I can find. Or if anyone can find the Behringer U-Phoria in stock then I'd be eternally grateful if you could pass on a link as I understand these are the king of budget interfaces? I've got a 4003 from 2002 and would say the neck is fairly shallow (I've got some calipers arriving midweek so can get you measurements if you fancy), but being quite wide at the nut almost makes up for it so I wouldn't describe their necks as being thin or 'fast. They're pretty unique necks that take a bit of getting used to imo, but once you get there they're pretty comfy. What are you used to playing? I have to admit that I picked the Ric up for the first time in months and it did feel a little weird at first. Where abouts are you in London? I'm in Enfield and you're more than welcome to come over to have a play on it once life is back to normal.

Well it's nice to hear that you're happy with the bass that turned up, even though it's not what you ordered! 😂 Either way the Tribute line up is a great range and both are good basses, they will sound pretty different though. It might even be worth giving Andertons a shout about this too and see if they'll send on any freebies to make up for their mess up, it'll be less hassle for them to send out a few bits then deal with the return and exchange. Was it the sunburst model you ordered? Pics please! I'm interested in picking one up myself so want something to drool over in the mean time

His tone has a definite clank about it, but it's huge at the same time and just fills the venue. I've always though Geddy had a rounder tone than that, but still quite aggressive. However......... I may have to hide somewhere after saying this....... I'm not really a big fan of him or Rush, so don't really know much about him and his tone. I appreciate he's a good bassist, but Rush just aren't for me. If you can share any good clanky examples though I'm all ears 😊

David Wm Sims of Jesus Lizard always sounds great to me and has a really menacing tone. Haven't had the chance to see them live, but if they come over here I'd give an arm to see them live.... Bob Weston of Shellac has the best tone I've ever heard live though

I've never played through the hartke so can't really say. However, I find 50w a bit of a no man's land when it comes to amps. It's over kill for home use and not loud enough for gigging (mostly, depends how quiet your band is and what sort of pa support you have).

The Squier CVs are good basses and you won't go wrong with one as your first bass. I could be wrong, but I think the 60s and 70s p have slightly different neck profiles? I don't think there's much of a difference (if there's any), it's only a couple of mm's so you'll likely not notice it really. What makes you sold on the Roland? Only asking as there might be a better amp for you. And what's your budget? I'm pretty sure everyone here likes shopping for new gear so would be more than happy living vicariously through you and helping you spend your hard earned dosh!

Like everyone has said, there's not much between the basses you're considering and you can't really go wrong with any of them. The Sire's are a little more fiddly with the controls, but after 5 minutes of playing with them you'll get what they do so I wouldn't worry about that. Our of the Squier and Sire, I'd say the Sire is probably slightly better made in terms of quality (plus, depending on the model you go for, you either get a free or discount on a gig bag), there's not loads in it though. However, personally I'd go for the Squier as it has a gloss neck which I prefer. It really is horses for courses though and there's no wrong answer here 😂 What sort of bands do you like or songs do you want to learn? If we knew that it might make a difference in the bass people recommend. Amp & cables wise.......both of your choices are safe bets (again!). Orange make good amps, I have a 15w Fender Rumble for home use and would recommend that too. The orange has a built in tuner which is handy, but you can get an app for that. The Fender is 50 odd quid cheaper and looks to be in stock next week whereas the orange isn't in stock until the end of the month....... Which will probably be a deciding factor by the sounds of things! Fender cables are good too. Zz top - nasty dogs and funky Kings, most of it is a bit boring to play on bass, but it's still one of the baddest riffs of all time! Johnny Lang - matchbox, is a fun little run SRV - the only annoying thing is tuning half a step down, but lovestruck baby is a great boogie tune and leave my girl alone is an interesting one to play. Son seals - mother in law blues is a nice boogie. The whole son seals band album is fantastic and your love is like a cancer is a good menacing bass line

Does anyone know why the Subs have different neck profiles? The burst and maple seems to have a jazz like neck and the others are chunkier?

It's the first time I've ever tried it to be honest and I'm not 100% sure I've cut it straight, but it seems to do the job 😊 I also want to give one of those moppets a go, the ones that look a bit like a sponge Swiss cheese.

I'm still not 100% sold that half a cm can't be dialled in with eq'ing though...... 😕 It's not like we're comparing neck v bridge pup........
