  1. RIP Dusty. Such a shame to lose him at no age at all. The house band upstairs just got a lot more thump added to it 😔
  2. Niiiiice. I really dig these and they've got so many cool little touches about them. Have fun with it!
  3. I know, you're supposed to spend the majority of your time lusting over new gear instead of actually playing what you have 🙄😂
  4. He's only got 4 basses.........? Sounds like he needs to join up here 😂
  5. Don't blame me when you end up buying another bass 😂 They are lovely though and if you ever find yourself in North London then you're more than welcome to have a go in mine to see how you get on with it.
  6. I'm the same and don't normally get on with P necks, at least I didn't until I found one that was 40mm and fairly slim back to front. From the sounds of things you'd also like the necks on the Japanese PB 70's 😊
  7. Absolutely gorgeous, glad you're happy with it!!
  8. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
  9. I use stainless steel rotosound swing bass 50-110 for drop C. There is that drop in tension, but I don't find the low C too floppy, personally. But then again, I use roto's for all my roundwound needs, so am slightly bias!
  10. "David and Nigel are like poets, you know, like Shelley or Byron, or people like that. The two totally distinct types of visionaries, it’s like fire and ice, and I feel my role in the band is to be kind of the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water."
  11. Currently getting through Tightrope by SRV. Lovely little runs by Tommy Shannon during the solo.
  12. Ah, so this is pretty tempting! I don't suppose you're interested in any trades? And can you let me know what the finish on the back of the neck is like please? Are these satin? If I did have it, I'd be coming up by train, are you far from Sandy station?
  13. I'd deffo only pay for it when collecting it too. It'd be a nice bass, but you just get that extra layer of security in case it's not as described or if something doesn't work on it.
  14. It looks to have just about the right amount of mojo too, a few scars, but not too beaten up. As long as you're happy with it when you pick it up then I think it's safe to say it's a really nice bass. I'm with you on the neck and it's often the fat necks that put me off, but the necks on these are sublime. I really like gloss/finished necks and these aren't too sticky, so perfect for me
  15. I think the serial numbers from then were a bit all over the place with a few duplications here and there. The pots would narrow it down for you if you wanted to nail it exactly. Either way it'd be a fantastic bass. I fall in and out out love with Precisions, but the model I have is the best Precision I've ever played and I wouldn't hesitate to pick this one up if I were looking for a new one. Go for it!
  16. Hey Witch Hazel, welcome to the forum. Hope you do keep on enjoying your new bass, but this is only the first of what will likely be many NBD threads you make if you hang around here for too long 😂 Really like your bass, the figuring in the wood is pretty cool!
  17. I haven't heard anyone say a bad thing about any Japanese Fender, especially the ones they were putting out in the 90s. That looks to me to be a PB70, essentially an export model made in Japan as the Vintera equivalent from back then. I haven't played that particular model, but I do have a PB70US which, as far as I can tell, is pretty much the same bass, but with US pickups and different wood (that body should be alder). That would have originally had Japanese pickups and, from what I've read, their output was fairly weak so it's normally the thing people upgrade. Bonus that that'll already be done for you It'd be a nice bass, really well made, and the thing that I love about mine is the neck. It's sort of between a J and P with 40mm nut width and fairly slim back to front. There's a bit more info in the specs etc here.... https://japanfender.wordpress.com/products/about/precision/ I would say about £600 is right for the export model, but the prices do seem to vary. I've seen some go for as low as £400, but then others go for £900, so it's a bit of a mixed bag!
  18. This looks to be about the same sort of size too, if you were feeling adventurous and wanted to go down the bitsa route..... https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/replacement-neck-for-p-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-no-finish Most of the finished varieties look to be sold out, but the maple is in stock... https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/replacement-neck-for-p-bass-solid-maple-w-finish
  19. Ah, good shout - I had completely forgotten about the Squier. GAK lists it as being slightly wider at the nut though, so it may be worth having a nose around or emailing Fender to double check ...... https://www.gak.co.uk/en/squier-mike-dirnt-precision-bass-with-tortoise-shell-pickguard-artic-white/87304 But then this site backs up the 40mm nut width for v1 &2...... http://www.squierwiki.com/AS-Mike-Dirnt-Precision-Version-1-Bass
  20. They're not cheap new and I haven't seen many pop up used, but I think the Mike Dirnt sig had a neck like that... https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/precision-bass/fender-road-worn-mike-dirnt-p-bass Just to go a bit left field, does it have to be a P bass? The Gibson DC Jnr has a lovely neck. Iirc, it's about 40mm at the nut and is fairly round in the hand, without being too chunky.
  21. What a great thread!!!!!!!! I saw that Quicksand have got back together and have a new album on the way. Here's the first single from it.....
  22. I mostly use a Zoom B1Four and some headphones to play along to songs from Spotify. Every now and then I break out a 15w Rumble, but that's pretty rare since picking up the Zoom.
  23. You can't really go wrong with the SM58. That's about as much as I know about mics and vocals though! If the setup is just to stay in that room then maybe look at what old trace combo you could get? Built like tanks, reliable, they sound good and you can pick them up pretty cheap nowadays. A Sire P (can't remember their exact model) is another reliable choice that you can't go too far wrong with

I think that burst is so nice that anything would look good on it! Having said that, I'm also leaning toward the black.
