1. Well, since the general consensus is theres no real point I could spend the money on something more sensible. Thanks for all the input.
2.
I think he's talking about bridge saddle slippage syndrome. I had it on my bass vi
This, if you mean the height adjusting grubscrew is what I mean by self adjusting. I think it was a vibration related issue.
3. I had an unfortunate incident with a lead guitarist who was blind drunk before what turned out to be the band's farewell gig. I still have the recording and frankly its embarrassing. At least he had the good sense to call it a day. Sounds like your fiddle player needs to recogise his shortcomings.
4. I'm playing an American special precision which comes with a vintage style top loader bridge. I guess the first question is should I consider an upgrade to a badass? The second is could I. Can I retrofit in the original holes without redrilling? I had a few problems with the action "self correcting" but that was cured with a dab of clear nail varnish. Nothing wrong with the old bridge other than that, Its just I cant help feeling the bent metal plate hasn't got any mass to it and there should be a benefit in something heavier. Cosmetically the standard fit bridge does look a bit cheap as well.
5. Scouting for Girls. I dont have kids, and all the other people there that were my age were only chaperones.
6. I often used to learn new songs on my underground commute. MP3 player, tab and an ability to look a bit daft making sure I could do right hand rhythm and the correct left hand finger according to the tab.
7. Never played it, but it has been suggested. It seriously cannot be worse than playing How you Remind Me. I wanted to use my veto on this but to be honest it goes down so well I agreed to keep it in the set.
8. Its a fine line between looking like you are enjoying it and Marty Pellow/Alan Price.
9.
I have no idea how I remember songs. In fact during a song that is new to me or I haven't done in a while I sometimes have no idea what comes next then suddenly my fingers are in the right place.
^^^^ This. Our drummist refers to this as muscle memory. When learning I guess its mainly patterns.
10. Didn't Alembic produce something in the 90s as an anniversary model with a list around $30k?
11.
We tend to forget that the volume control is via a logarithmic pot so the perceived sound will increase linearly. I'm very fortunate that I play with a musical drummer - and with a Markbass cmd121h combo (which has been nicked out of my van in the last week - bastards!) I had volume set at 9 to 10 o'clock. I'm buying a traveller 121h cab and a little Mark 2 at 150W into 8 ohms to replace the beast and I reckon it will give me better resolution when setting my volume. Even at these levels I still wear ear plugs!
In line with the whole watts vs volume thing, I'm also struggling with the definition of a small pub gig as well. 250 Punters in a crowded room? I have a Markbass 250 Blackline into a 4ohm 102 traveller. Its very loud in this kind of situation paying rock covers
12.
Town Called Malice. Ah yes.
All Jam music is known in my house as fighting music. There's just something about it
13. Another ex six stringer who now uses a pick maybe 30% of the time. The nylon picks with a rough surface for grip work better and last longer. I play dunlop 0.88mm ones which are flexible enough but still give a sound. I am still gripping much harder than when I used to play 6 strings, but then so is my left hand.
14.
Without wanting to burst your bubble, you should be aware that the nature of this survey is that you're going to get a misleadingly popular response. Reasons why: 1. You've posted it in a very carefully selected environment. You've already whittled down the list of possible respondents to the kind of person who might be interested in a gadget for saving space on-stage. 2. Surveys, by their nature, are self-selecting. You've only gained market information about the kind of person who fills in online surveys. What about the kind of person who doesn't fill in online surveys? What do they want? 3. You haven't given much detail about the product, so no-one's got any reason to express disinterest. We're all naturally curious, we want to know more, and we're all projecting our own personal desires onto this nebulous item. If your product is actually only ergonomically suitable for crocodiles, and one of your survey questions was "would you be interested in a product that is only usable by crocodiles?" then you'd get a far less flattering set of results. 4. If you say to people "hypothetically, would you buy a porcelain walrus" then you'll get a smattering of "yeah why not" responses, and when you then go into business producing porcelain walruses, you might be disappointed by your sales. Turns out, people tend to be much more enthusiastic about gadgets and new ideas until the point at which you say "right, now buy one." S.P.
Some fair points, but it depends how you interpret the data. If this is simply establishing whether there is a perception of a problem that a product might solve and whether a market might exist the survey is valid. I don't think you could extrapolate the results in to a market size. Details of the product should be kept well under wraps if there is possibility that a patent will be applied for.
15.
Over the years I've amassed a nice collection of basses, all of which have been gigged regularly. But a few months ago I bought a Sandberg VM5 that, for me, is just perfect. It's exactly the sound I've been looking for. It's now my only gigging bass. So now, I don't know what to do with the other basses. I've spent a lot of time (and money, but don't tell the wife) getting them and they're all fantastic in their own way - but I know that they just aren't going to get the use they deserve. So do I thin the herd and take a massive loss selling them? Or hold onto them for the occasional rehearsal? Anyone else been in a similar position?
You are barely back from honeymoon and you already want to ditch your ex' girlfriends?
16.
Spin off from other thread.... There's some songs that turn punters into absolute ass hats. I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs Chelsea Dagger - Fratellis Mr Brightside - The Killers and from taunton-hobbit - Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
oops.......rather too many of these in our set list at the mo.
17. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35751399 Since the bonnie lad appears to be going mutt, who would you choose to replace him?
18. Done. I suspect this isn't something that makes the drummer take up less room. In all seriousness, are you looking to justify a product you want to bring to market, or create a need a la Apple?
19.
Not my cup of tea, however I would play country with no problem if it's a oro level band with a lot of good paying high end gigs booked. Blue
I really don't understand that Blue. I thought you were a pro musician because you enjoy it. Surely the enjoyment will wain rapidly if you don't like what you are playing. A $600 dollar weekend is, I believe, about wedding band territory in the UK.
20.
I can understand that. I really need to see if there's some musicians who just like Playing in St Ives, Cambs. I was spoiled in leeds and liverpool, you couldn't throw a stone without it bouncing off 2 musicians.
OMG did you really just mention Liverpool in a Blue thread??????
21. Each to his own, but given a choice of classic Blues, country, classic rock, or gothic thrash I think I'd prefer to give up playing all together.
22. Unfortunately I never saw them play, but used to enjoy answering "Supergrass" when asked "Oasis or Blur?"
