1. traded for a real funky Wal 4
2. there you go: Wonderful Life/Black - great song; didn't know at that time what a Wal Bass was - actually it seems they propped up on every second song I listened to as a teenager, and now I play them myself - cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YCE_LAiSdU...feature=related
3.
Hi Oliver It was definatly the right decision for me, Martin has done a superb job, he used narrow gauge dutch mandolin fret wire, same as he uses on the sei basses he builds, he also moved the side position markers & you can't even tell where the original ones were, I use this bass all the time now & the sound is full & thick with a sweet percussive edge, When compared to my dads 4 string the overall tone colour is the same but slightly fatter with more headroom, I would say go for it Oliver & I would recommend Martin at the gallery every time, That's a lovely sixer you have there oliver, Keep us posted on you're thoughts
yeah - will do! That's a great idea to use narrow gauge fret wire to keep the weight down. Also greetz to Jens - hope you're still digging the old Midi Wal
4.
Just got this back from the gallery (sei bass) & Martin has done a stunning job fretting this for me
Great decision to have it converted to a fretted, Al! How does it alter the sound? I guess it now kills every speaker around? What about its weight now - still comfortable to play? I'm asking since I've been pondering on having mine fretted, too, but being afraid of the weight the Wal will gain by that. It's still my heaviest bass ... Anyway - enjoy your beauty! Oliver
5. We just swapped basses. Great and easy transaction between Ireland and Germany. Can only recommend Mick as a fair and friendly business partner. Oliver
6.
It's 1000 for a fretted 6 string neck too, I enquired with paul,
I have also considered having Paul build me an additional fretted neck for my Wal six. It really is a point that fretless playing is for home or studio use mostly ... I think 1000GBP for a fretted six string neck is adequate since most of the construction time goes into it. I think I remember reading on some Wal forum that Pete Stevens also mentioned that. And there is the point of being able to swap necks without having to worry about playability and bridge setup because of that brilliant neck bolt construction of Wal basses. I once had a 1985 MKI marked fretless with ebony fingerboard and stumbled over a used fretted 1986 Wal MKI rosewood neck for silly money. I swapped the necks without any problems and had two basses in one with two different sound characters without having to adjust or change anything about the setup of the bass - incredible! Oliver
7. jee! keep it and have Paul convert it to a fretted one.
8. on hold payment pending Interested in a limited Orange OBC 115 bass cabinet in all black with 400w at 8 ohms anyone?
9. Yeah the Alembis sounds great. Though, for the very clean tube sounds I still have the Demeter pre, so I really cannot justify holding on to the Alembic. Pm responded to. Cheers Oliver
10. as soon as I'm rid of my Ricky 4003, which is currently on hold, I'm going to be at your doorstep! What a wonderful Smith! What's the weight of it, BTW?

14. Just take a look at that guy and what he's getting out of his MKII fretless - incredible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD2xS91Mi84...feature=related Hard to copy those sounds with a different bass. I love mine and they are worth every cent I paid for them.
