1. Hi all, selling my brand new Ken Smith BSR5GN from 10/2010 in immaculate condition. The bass plays and sounds incredible. It's this very bass I bought here on Basschat from bassistist not so long ago, who had purchased it directly from Bassdirect UK before: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Here's the original link to the "sold" section of Bassdirect UK where you can see some very nice shots of that very Smith bass: http://www.bassdirec...TH_BSR_5GN.html I'm asking 2,900 GBP which is a real bargain since I paid 4,400 € for the bass. The bass hasn't left the livingroom and comes with original Smith case, papers and case candy. I'm selling it since I've come across a wonderful Wal 6 again and I'd like to keep my bass stable at bay The bass is in Germany and I'm willing to ship the bass via UPS. If you like some more detail pics of the beauty or need any more info on the bass please pm me. Best Oliver
 2.
Waynepunkdude, what piece is the second Drawmer below the 1960? Is it the old version of the 1960 or something else? Here´s some guts from the place I´m working at. The controlroom pictures were taken when the installation was not completed, though. There´s quite some more stuff added in the meantime.
Just your ordinary punkrock band rehearsal room to come and play now and then Wayyyyyyyyy cool! greetz Olli
 3.
Really like the right one. Beautiful finish. is that some sort of sycamore? is it a recent one?
Barend, the right Wal indeed features "stained" sycamore facings and it's only a couple of days old. I got it last Wednesday from Paul. Paul told me he had needed a lot of trial and error to get that colour for me without having to really stain the wood anymore like in former Wal days. Its appearance is very 3-dimensional and, yes, creased silk was also my first thought The body goes very well with the almost black rosewood board and the black poly finish of the neck. Here's a close-up:

 5. bump for a great bass - unfortunately not for me Someone grab this one quickly!
 6.
I've used Wal basses in different bands and each time I'm really pleased with the fact that it cuts through anything while maintaining deepness and character. It just has a sound of its own and it works for me. This is a youtube-thing of me playing my Wal-bass in a straight forward rock-band. The clip doesn't have the best sound-quality but it's imo a good example of the bass keeping its definition even in the worst circumstances.. I heard from lots of sound-engineers that they love it in live situations..
Yeah Geert! I also remember funky fingers on that Wal BTW cool that you got that Pro Wal to convert to fretless - great find. Enjoy!
 7.
Whilst I was at the workshop Paul appeared to be putting the finishing touches on, what I think was a flamed maple bodied, MK1 - it was absolutely stunning. Anyway, I suppose I'd better start saving for a fretted MKIII next
Great Wal 5 man! Congrats! Paul is a real master of the craft and it's always a pleasure to talk to him. The flamed maple MK1 could be mine which is due this month - did it have a black neck and was the finish somewhat light brownish? I can hardly wait for it to be ready and compare it to my white MKII which you can hear and see live on stage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5fC2CTYt5k...feature=related. At around 1:30 into the clip you can hear it soloed. tc Oliver
 8. Just received mine and it really kills my Tech 21 Sansamp. Together with my Wal or Ken Smith over a Trace Elliot rig with a tube preamp this device rips your face off - GREAT pedal. And worth every cent, Douglas. Well done! I could imagine that it could even enable you to replace a second guitarist in a band context when playing chords on your bass - and with a much more sofisticated and full sound than that of an Akai Unibass for instance.
 9. His downloadable mp3s are also awesome - I bought them. Sounds like Primus' evil brother. Hopefully, I'll nail down that sound with the 4 string Wal through the TE rig when the Microtubes B3K arrives
 10. highly recommended and trustworthy - we just swapped our Wals and everything went perfectly between England and Germany Chris is great to deal with and has an awesome knowledge of basses, too. Cheers again for the fair deal Chris - and funk it! Oliver
 11.
I had a bass sent from Germany arrived very well packed, arrived on time only 3 days, and was true to his word, its everything he said it was and more i love it. Oliver is One of the nicest chaps i have never seen !, He was ringing me up almost dayly just to confirm his good intensions and to put me at ease, he is a credit to bass chat, I would trust him 101% with any other transactions in or out of bass chat. Good luck with your band oliver, i will be poping over to catch you live and a few beers soon.
thanks for that chris - great to deal with you, too!
 12. I contacted the seller and he expects at least 3000GBP+ - so I reckon it won't go cheaply. Also, be aware that this one is an 80ies Wal and hasn't recently been checked by Wal, though from the pics it looks immaculate. hmmm
 13.
Now sold
At last Hope you're going to find you Smith now
 14. should be on a plane to the UK right now headed for its new owner
 15. My self-built Wal Pro 4 plain ebony fretless Hybrid shortly before leaving the workbench (neck original Wal from 1979).
 16. another bump for Geert! Nice Wal, even better playing - I'm still fighting with my Wal 6
 17.
Oh no!! I've just pulled the frets out with a spoon as I thought you would buy it, Dam! Where's the double sided sticky tape ??
18.
That could be a solution but I don't like modifying these fine basses.. I think the easiest solution is to get back to a Pro-fretless with one pick-up (I used to have one but sold it because I enjoyed Pedulla basses for a while) since those Pro-basses seem to have those dots on my preferred place. Also my eyesight isn't getting better so I need all the possible help I can get..
This could be one for you Geert http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Wal.html greetz from Germany

 20.
Any songs or clips of the 6-String Wal?
There aren't any pure 6 string songs I did with the Wal, but if you listen to little eels' great recordings of his Wal 6 here on the Basschat forum when it was still fretless, you're there. Also, there are some overdub bass lines on the songs I did with After The Rain and The Different: http://www.myspace.com/reasonandrain http://www.myspace.com/thedifferentband It's just a great bass.
