Hi folks, I have a Gibson Les Paul 'classic', it's a 2014 model and I bought it to have some lessons on say in a year's time from my bass/music tutor, I thought it would be way better than my modded but mint Nevada les paul copy. Thing is if I'm honest, the strings are too close together, I guess they were on the other but it never really bothered me as it cost me ninety quid and I only mucked about on it. The Gibson was almost a grand, I'm thinking of trying a wider neck job if I can find something in a local dealer, with enough room for my mildly arthritic fingers. If I want summat as good as the Gibson, (which I could sell), have you guys got some suggestions? Think blues/rock, thank - you.

Hi fella, from someone not too far away !

A pair of American Landing's, T-bass, telecaster style with active pups plus eq. L30 Synth bass, passive Bartolini pups, brass nut, Roland pick-up, there's more wires inside than the space shuttle. They both use medium scale strings which IMHO tension up better than s/scale stringy 's.

Hi, 1200 watts into 2ohms, 800 watts into 4ohms, 575 watts into 8ohm Unmarked condition, the foot pedal is new, (I put the original in a safe place, not seen it since), flight case and kettle lead included, might be interested in an Ashdown BTA300 / 200 hybrid or a CTM 100 all valve, 'might'. I reckon about 47 quid to carrier, I know how to package things for carrier's and make them survive, rather it be picked up.

A bit o' summat to practice on a t'ome, like.

Hi, I'm off to the local Picturedrome to see Robin Trower with Stevie Nimmo as support, the 'supports' are always better than Trower. Can't get enough of those Nimmo bros or KingKing with Alan Nimmo fronting, just one man's opinion. hah ! 🐾

Oh I didn't think they would be, but thanks, and apologies for hijacking this thread !

Ah ! now I use Roto-sound black nylons on one bass with the passive pickups, and stainless steel flats on the active bass, if your recommendation is a value for money thing, (rotosound ), I could give that a go, I've tried flat Chromes on the bass and not found them deep enough but they were a lighter gauge than I'm used to. Thanks.

I use my bass rig for my les paul sometimes, I like it but there's not enough distortion on the fx side of life for me, I don't play nicely.

Hi, I have various flatwounds on my base's's and have been itching to swap the strings on my les paul to tape/flatwound for a deeper-cum-smoother tone. I've already swapped it from 10's to 11's but it just don't like the wire wound feel at all, any recommendations on which make of flatwounds would yield the bluesy'est or deepest sound ? Ta.

.... and hello from me in Holmfirth, I've got a roland guitar synth cos one of my Landing s/scales is fitted with a synth pup, so that's three things in common, bass, roland's and moaning, result !
That said, I have a ridiculously over-powered rig for pub gigs with a 1200w / 2ohm going into 2 4x10 cabs. I only have the volume set to 1/3 but the sound is beautiful and I can play my bass very gently without being unheard.
So agree with this statement, I use a Fender TB1200 hybrid head into 2 X Orange OBC115 cabs, up, down, or shake da room around

We have The Picturedrome here In Holmfirth, saw King King last Thurs, absolutely great, they're cd's don't do them justice, Highly recommended for blues/rock.

Yes, the Specials are there doing what they do best !, the bass is good on the Grace Jones song, '' drive up to my bumper b-a-b-y, in your long black limousine, Mmm

Hi guys, I have loads of Jules's progs recorded, but the one I keep re - playing is from about 12 to 18 months ago subtitled "legends". It goes back years but has the quality of acts that your talking about, Steve Miller band, Macca, The Who, some of Pink Floyd, to name but a few across the board good players. Worth a watch with about a dozen acts on, maybe just my opinion.

I too would be interested, a quick wiz over t'hill, past the sheep, Mmm, oh and could we perhaps pay up front before the bash so as to cover costs in case circumstances stop a few attending who meant to go if there's a problem with breaking even ?

Mmm, had a look at Hydrogen, might be better than I need, but I wouldn't have known of its existence without you guys, so thanks.

Thanks obbm, I'll check the simple route out.

Thank's everyone, i must admit i fancy a d/machine more than a metronome to practice along with, but will turn the phone into a metronome with that app and perhaps look on ebay for the other, and the zoom pedal, see what i can spot, i am also having lessons in the local music shop back room every two weeks but might look for a proper tutor, its the practice i should do more of, too much diy, overtime, and beer festivals. Great stuff, thank's.

Thank's for the help, never thought of a metronome app, i'll look into that as it should be the most cost effective, great !

Hello to all, I'm very new at bass playing, think lessons, is there any merit in the idea of using a drum machine or metronome to help me learn to keep in time ?, I love the blues, where's Gary Moore when you need him, and am learning some of his stuff using bass tabs. If the idea hold some merit, can you guys point me in some kinda direction of what to try, I do have a disc of backing tracks with his stuff on, is that a better direction to follow ? Many thanks in advance.
