1. All sounds good to me mcnach, and I love the colour - kind of 'Off-Purple Rain'
2.
Oh... I opened the box to take the gig bag out, easier to transport later. But... it's empty!!!! Well, it must be empty. It weighs nothing!
That bodes well for my chambered s-s Elwood with alu bridge and lightweight tuners - still no sofa shot yet though! Hoping it won't get delayed by the NAMM stuff.
3. Met up with Kev last night to exchange my wad of cash for his BF cabs. All good - had a great chat over coffee at motorway services and left enriched by the experience. Long live the Basschat forum, to which Kev is a great contributor!
4. OK, so finally got my head round the above multiple-image post with a bit of help from moderator Kevvo66 (plus the fact that the madness that is Botophucket has settled down a bit). The pics were taken yesterday when the weather/light levels were really poor but I've done my best to show the true condition of this bass. If anything, the flash-lit images have accentuated the minor marks. When viewed in 'normal' light all you see IMHO is a pleasing 'patina' consistent with a classic bass that's been well looked after.
5. Here's some more pics:
6.
Come to papa my quirky little beauty!
We like quirky!!
7.
How do they mix the band's sound? Does each one only worries about being able to listen to his own instrument? Not very professional, especially if they're being payed for the gig... IMO and IME most punters will judge a band for it's sound, if the sound is bad the band is bad and not worth staying in the pub to listen to them.
Agreed! For pub gigs and similar I always have a trusted pair of ears in the audience.
8. Interesting to see how impressed Andyjr was with the quality as received (i.e. before he modded it) of the HB he's just customised. Basically sound as a pound (before our recent currency collapse that is). Btw I also noted a sequence of incredibly tasty looking HB basses flashing up on my screen when I Googled NAMM 2017 to check out this year's new stuff. Haven't got round to following up on them yet.
9. As already mentioned, 20" (e.g. Warwick) is about as flat as you can buy 'off the peg'.
10. Oooh, that looks nice - but my herd is short-horns, and I'm also thinning mine out! GLWTS PS Like Ash says, I'd re-check the weight.
11.
The Greek Goddess of repairing things....
I am a regular worshipper at her shrine
12. The classic fix recommended by those who know about these things is: dip end of cocktail stick into wood glue, push tight into hole; leave overnight to set; break/cut off flush with body; re-drill to suit new screw. I've done this a few times but any of the above will also work as it's not super-critical.
13.
Great looking bass.
Thanks, I agree.
14. In my ongoing quest for compact/light-weight stuff I recently bought an Eden WTX264 and a Barefaced One10. As Saturday's gig was drummer-less in a medium-sized venue with a decent PA and sound engineer, I decided to go for it. The multi-band event was running so late that the engineer decided to do a quick set-up (including taking the DI feed from my amp) and sound-checked us on the fly in the first number. So off we go and I'm thinking the overall sound is a bit feeble and all the bass I'm hearing is my slightly clanky back-line thru the One10. At the end of the set, the rest of the band seemed happy enough (?!) but I collared the engineer for a chat. He explained that he wasn't getting any DI signal off my amp so he had to set the mix to my backline. When I asked whether he had noticed the DI level pot on the back of the amp, you can guess what the answer was. I guess the good news was that my mini rig did a remarkably good job at punching above its weight. But don't you just hate not being in control?
15.
be interested to know how it all works out if you dont mind keeping me updated buddy
+1
16. Bump - this is a high-quality, thru-neck, active bass for £350!
17.
I am at exactly the same point but have the advantage of having two EB3s, one was given to me off here because it was split nearly in two, I have repaired that and decided to use it as a base to test out some ideas. I have fitted a cheap but fully adjustable bridge and will see how it goes once I have all the electrics working (sadly they were appalling so need a complete overhaul - factory stuff is disgraceful in my opinion). I did a quick test but with only the bridge pick up working and it seems that the bridge pickup is incredibly sensitive to string location. The new bridge has moved the string positions of the E and G by about 1.2mm and that seems enough to cause them to be very quiet. There are ways around this and I will start working on it as soon as I have all the electrics up and running properly.
I've been following your 'rescue' thread with interest. Which replacement bridge have you fitted?
18.
Knowing Gibson, they probably ordered a zillion of the wretched 3-pointers and were too stubborn to listen to customer feedback and go with an alternative.
Yep, that sounds about right!
