  1. I don mic the drums, other than the kick. We do place a small digital recorder close to the kit, this is for the IEM mixes and recording only, not FOH. Problem is, even that picks up his monitor, so gets quite a lot of the mix as well. That's really not a big deal though. He point blank reuses to use Headphones or IEM's and will never budge. Unfortunately he owns the monitors so it's not like I could 'forget' to bring them to the gig.
  2. We use Powered PA cabs for monitors (for those that dont use IEM) and I hate it. Drummer has a 1x15 right by his kit, and his mic not only picks the drums up, but the monitor as well. He is very old school and won't change. Its like they want to be professional and want good monitors, but have no clue that this is overkill for our gigs and effects the sound for the audience. I now insist we sound check with all mic's active and try and balance it all out front. On smaller gigs we might as well not even take a PA. In fact the monitors have the same power as our FOH. I guess this counts as having a back up if nothing else.
  3. Thanks. Might give them a go.
  4. Ive been searching for info on these but can't figure out if the button is an on/off switch, or just for pairing. Are these the type that you can leave plugged in and just turn on when needed, or like the Boss ones that turn on when pugged in?
  5. I felt exactly like this during lockdown. Brought a keyboard and found happiness again.
  6. Pretty sure my drummer tried doing it with his hand and it made no difference. We were on a stage those and there was a lot of energy being transmitted through it.
  7. Not sure. If he is sitting there not playing, but there is a loud buzzing come from between his legs, id assume he would be aware of it. Judging by the other replies, drummers can hear this sort of thing on a quieter stage.
  8. Hearing it out front when we sound checked on Sat was what prompted me to speak up. It's also quite prominent at rehearsals. That may not really matter, but it's a noise that shouldn't be there, so, like feedback and excessive hiss, it should be addressed asap as it's just not very proffessional. I dont even mind between songs, it's if someone is playing.
  9. This is what I first suggested to him. I thought it would be easy to do that.
  10. We tend to play smaller clubs, where nothing other than keys and Vox go through the Paso its getting quite noticeable, especially on stage.
  11. Not even when playing Stand by me? 😂
  12. I can’t ever remember having to ask a drummer in all the years I’ve been playing. Maybe it’s not been much of an issue and I’ve not noticed, or they were turning them off when needed. Either way, we now need this to happen in my current band and i expect it will be an uphill struggle, but i won’t let it go. I just wasn’t sure it was a thing with drummers. Thanks for the replies and confirmation.
  13. Im not sure he does much of that. He seems to make a lot of mistakes. He is a good drummer but doesn't quite get the songs right these days. Nice bloke though and I would never want to argue with him, but things have to be said if they need to. He did ask me to remind him at the next rehearsal, which I took exception to and told him maybe he should make a list of the songs that need this. I wipe enough asses already.
  14. I’m pretty sure none of my other drummers over the years didn’t do this when possible. I mentioned an E kit to him, as he does have one, but got an odd look lol. im just dumbfounded that none of my band have never mentioned it before, although I’m not really surprised considering the other issues they never hear or mention.
  15. Glad it’s not just me. I’ve let it go for a couple of years, admittedly it’s not been a big deal with our old set, but we now have a few songs where its very noticable. I dont play bass in this band, but to do what you suggest above id have to teach my bass player how to tune his bass first……😂
  16. I was surprised he had never even considered it, but with my band I seem to be the only one that picks up on these things. I guess he was put on the spot and so I can understand he wasn't prepared for this, but im hoping it will be sorted going forward. Or do bands not bother with this sort of thing and im just being anal?
  17. Over the past few rehearsals and gigs, ive noticed my drummer's snare wires are vibrating over most of the intros where he doesn't play, but me or the bass player start the song, and over one where he uses rim shot most of the time. I know there is a lever to mute/pull these back. I asked him at the gig on Sat about one song and he said it was tricky doing this. I appreciate it can be, but isn't it something he should be doing anyway? I think it sounds very unprofessional having extra noise's over intros. Im the only one that has brought this up. Am I being unreasonable telling him to get this sorted?
  18. And over keyboard parts.
  19. Ive used stereo since day one (more or less). When we got our XR18 I was setting up the singer's IEM, she uses the XVive one, and was shocked at how flat and lifeless the mix sounded in mono. She still uses it but when one of my guitarists wanted to go IEM I got him to get the Legato one, as I had already have that as a back up system to my main one.
  20. As soon as i posted i knew this would happen 😂
  21. No, not ideal at all. We do place a mic on his cab, but now he insists on using a Telecaster which is constantly feeding back, so no way im putting him in FOH. He. Use one sounded and 14 pedals, constantly playing with them, always looking down at his pedals or looking at his amp. Doesn’t help that he isnt the rhythm guitarist, so noodles through the songs until his solo’s come along. Even plays lead lines over mine. Always the last off stage after soundcheck, as he has to keep noodling over the music we put on etc un till we tell him to get off stage
  22. Now im stuck behind the keyboards i miss being able to do this, and while there are others that could, i wouldn't trust them to listen to anything other than themselves.
  23. He never said they sounded good though 😂😎
  24. I tend to have our PA speakers facing inwards until we are ready to do a full sound check. It just saves anyone out in the room listening to ( '1...2..is it on?...I can't hear myself....yeah the switch on my mic is set to on, oh wait....)
  25. Also running our own small PA with just vocals/keys and kick drum going through it. We try and arrive at an earlier time if doing Social clubs. Sometimes the room is closed so it's fine, other times there are people in it so we have to look professional about it. This is where most of my band struggle. Setting gear up on stage but not turning it on, making sure it's all connected etc until the moment we all stand up there for a sound check. Ive also been fighting to get my lead guitarist to play for the audience and not himself. He angles his combo towards his head/ceiling. When I ask him to turn it up so it can be heard out front, I get 'then it's too loud'. No bloody idea!!!. So yeah, 2, but done in a professional way, but sometimes the result is as if it were option 1 anyway.
