  1. Are you changing where you pluck/pick? I tend to move back a bit closer to the bridge when I use fingers, but mostly use a pick. I like the contrast between the two and dont change any settings.
  2. Not sure if this has been posted, only just come across it. I knew of it but surprised to see it on Youtube.
  3. I use my best bass for anything bass related. No point having a best and not using it. To me most expensive doesn't mean best, but I use my most expense bass as well (it's the same one in my case).
  4. One thing to consider with effects, is the correct order to get the tone you want. It's not always obvious what goes first etc, even if you know what effects are used. In this case something like the HX Strop is a lot easier to swap the order of the separate effects than a wired pedal board. Personally id try and do it all in the Stomp first.
  5. 2 outdoor gigs in North London for me yesterday. First gigs on bass for quite a while. First was at the Heath street festival in Hampstead. Nice stage and good sound. I had my new preamp with me but didnt use it at either gigs. First gig was with an Ampeg combo. Really nice sound. Quite tempted to get one at some point. It did rain a bit but that didnt seem to deter the crowd and we were covered. Second was in a private estate in Highgate. We were supposed to have a proper stage but it turned out to be a Gazebo with a small raised playing area. No side protection at all. Of course, the heavens opened up as we were approaching to set up. Again, backline was supplied so this time i used MB 3x10 combo. I had planned on using a preamp with this, but looking at the extension socket, filled with rain, I decided I wasn't going anywhere near it. Again, decent sound, which did surprise me as ive never been a fan of MB cabs. Highlight was when the sound guy turned the supplied Tube driven guitar combo on and a firework display emerged out the back of it. Apparently due to the tube being hot, a tiny drop of cold rain had shattered the glass. Guitarist ended up going DI from hisHelix Stomp. We had a really good sound though. Thoroughly enjoyed both gigs. What also struck me was how easy it was setting up. Never needed any effects, didnt even miss not using a preamp etc.
  6. Haha, no, just an embarrassed bass player. The worst part was having to explain why i ‘decided’ not to bring the new bass that i had been praising 24/7 before the gig. I don't use the Squier much (its an original CV, other than the bridge and pups lol), but id say its done a good few dozen gigs since.
  7. Fixed 😂 Trying to type while keeping an eye out for the boss at work.
  8. Years ago I got a new Fender. It was lovely but I had some Fralins in another bass that I wanted to use in the new one. I took the Fralins out and installed them, and put the Fender's in to the Squire. Just put them in the bass, didnt wire them, didnt screw them in etc. Just storing them. Told the band I had this new bass and all were expecting to hear it at the gig. Opened the gig bag and there was the Squier, all in bits lol. I had taken the wrong gig bag. I had to secure and wire in the pups using gaffa tape back stage, even the wiring to the output jack. I was panicking all night that it would cut out. It didnt. Other than replacing the tape over the ends of the pup's with actual screws, the bass is still wired with tape holding the wires in place. At least 20 years after.
  9. Christ, it's never easy is it. Ive now ordered another Nux. I had a rehearsal with the BDDI and I love the tone, but I have a few gigs coming up where I'll be using an Ampeg. Can't see the point of using the BDDI, but I do want a bit more drive on some songs. There is no way to add this with the BDDI without the blend being up, and I feel things could start getting messy. The Nux can be used just as a drive and without colouring the sound. For now this will work better. Im keeping the BDDI though
  10. I got a couple of those Spirits in white from Music Yo quite a few years ago for free (long story, cock up with deliveries etc). I sold one, and ended up swapping one for a B2A (and then sold that as I didnt like it as much). I still have one with the more traditional body. I really like the EMG Select pups on them.
  11. The reason I got my first BDDi was to warm up my MB LM3 years ago. took me a while to get used to it but ive pretty much used a BDDI ever since, and I play a lot of varied music. I can see how the Laney would work well with MB, and I may one day try another, but im hoping to go amp less asap, and the BDDI gives me a bit more character.
  12. I guess I didnt realise I liked a coloured tone so much when I started this thread. I still think the NUX is much better as it has amp sims and IR's, but after using them for a few weeks I just missed the colouring I get with the BDDI. I dont go full on with the blend, but that too adds a little bit of something to the sound that appeals to me. I dont use an amp at home so I guess the 'bland' comment could be in relation to that. I really did like it, and think with a bass rig it might have worked, but the BDDI does the underlying tone and the 'something' on top in one box. As did the NUX. I think the other factor to go back to the BDDI was I really didnt want a main powered box. This bugged me a little. Not a deal breaker, but all in, I went with what I know works for me. Maybe it was just GAS after all.
  13. I was really looking forward to the Brandi Carlisle set, but, my god she cant sing in tune to save her life. What a shame.
  14. Thought Amyl and the sniffers were quite energetic. Never heard of them before but quite enjoyed them.
  15. Yeah, i was a big fan. Went to the first few tours back in the lat 70’s, early 80’s. Always had a soft spot for his music but it seemed to get a bit too off track for me. Going to see him in Nov on the Telekon tour, but mainly as a nostalgia trip. Love the old. Old stuff, not a fan of the more modern Numan. and WTF was the guitarist playing in the solo on Down in the park 😂
  16. Just catching up with the Gary Numan set. Worst bass tone ive ever heard, but largest kick drum ive ever seen 😂 Not a huge fan of the grungy Numan band, but enjoyed the set after the first two songs were out of the way.
  17. Well first, i had both and so well aware of what they can do. Thanks for confirming it though 😏. After a few weeks with both, and never once trying to get an SVT tone, i just missed the BDDI. i gigged with one for at least 20 years. Never did i want an SVT tone, i just like what it does to a P bass. If thats close to SVT fair enough, but it’s certainly not what a real SVT rig sounds like in my experience and ive never wanted that sound. The BDDI does much more than an SVT sim anyway. I dont run with the blend higher above 10 o ‘clock so it’s not a hugely coloured sound. The NUX has at least 2 SVT IR’s, so i disagree that both aren’t trying to do SVT. The NUX is way more versatile than the Laney as far as features. The Laney on the other hand sounded bland and weak. EQ is subtle and drive is cold. Probaly why they arent as popular as other preamps. Nice enough i guess but a bit lacking tone wise.
  18. only you cant get the tone of a BDDI 😀
  19. Well in my experience with rehearsal rooms, any amp i took to use with their cabs sounded pretty similar. I did obviously hear a difference, but the cab would colour the amp. It was only when i took my full rig did i get the sound i wanted and had at gigs.
  20. Im my experience a head makes far less difference than a cab does. I love the BDDI (just brought another), but its often bemused me how its sold as 'just turn up anywhere and still have your sound' I get the statement, but dont think its that simple. If you are looking at the Sansamp, be aware that the Programable doesn't have the mid control. This mid control can be very useful in these situations.
  21. And now the NUX has gone back. Back to the BDDI again. I just brought another v2. Exactly a year and 2 days after I last brought one😂
  22. It seems fine on my M4 with external monitor, but not my M1 using the built in screen.
  23. Maybe this is by design, but ive just noticed that when I get to the bottom of a page, and click on next page button, the new page needs a bit of scrolling up to see the first few threads. Im on a MacBook Pro using Safari.
  24. Recently ive been making use of Logic Pro's stem splitter (other programs/apps can also do this). My first point of call is usually Youtube to get and idea of how it goes. I get the track in to Logic, and then I separate the bass line from the rest of the track, and can then Solo it or mute it so I can play along with the track using my bass line.
