  1. It’s very easy to get caught up in the gear obsession on here and other forums. There is always a lot of good advice, but people that have progressed to a higher level seem to find it hard to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and can’t think at a lower level. I’m sure we have all gigged with bare minimum in our lives, and see bands still doing that even now. It’s a tried and tested way of doing things if you're on a budget or don’t want all the extra cost and complications that come with getting more advanced gear. No band needs a digital desk like the XR18 etc, even though it’s a real eye opener when you do get something like this. But we all survived well enough before they came along. Personally yeah, I’d never want to go back to an old style desk if i was in charge of the band, but having done well over 1000 gigs with nothing more than a small desk for vocals/kick and a bit of bass (before moving to keys and needing a better system) i can see that it’s not essential to go for a more advanced set up. A couple of mid range powered speakers and a no frills desk will do well enough.
  2. Gigged almost every weekend for 15 years like this. Never did us any harm. Im sure we could have sounded better if we had all gone through the PA, but you don’t get that many repeat booking and glowing reviews if you sound crap.
  3. EXACTLY what i have to do all the time. Our bassist tends to use the volume knob on his bass to go quieter and very often forgets to turn back up (doesn’t grasp the use less force in your fingers technique). Very frustrating, but these days i monitor his level on the mixer and will turn him up FOH if i feel he has dropped too low (plus the on stage level will go down as an indication)
  4. Yeah, i get that. I have a full mix in my IEM’s and do quite often need to ride a guitar fader or two. I also have an iPad with Mixing Station sitting on my keyboard so i can keep an eye on things, but its more things that i don’t need to be worried about. Ive been on and on at them for a couple of years to try and sort their levles out, but its still not even enough for me to not worry about it.
  5. I’ve finally got all my band to all go in to the mixer (other than most of the drums). This was mainly for those of us using IEM’s. When i played bass i always went through the PA for more dispersion, especially in a packed room. I have run the band through our PA a couple of times and it sounded really good, but those were just me experimenting at sound check. My worry is that my guitarists have a habit of turning up during the gig, and with no one out front keeping our mix in check i can imagine the guitars through the Pa could get overwhelming. It’s bad enough the on stage levels going up. I’m working on it, but it’s a work in progress.
  6. My guitarist brought my Lekato’s off me and has no issues so far (that i can tell). With 3 of us using the 2.4 band we did find that the singers Xvive needed to use a different channel as she said hers had cut out a couple of times, but things seem to be working well so far. I’m always a bit sceptical when they say ‘no issues’ as they are the type of people that would probably not notice a drop out if they had one, but as long as they don’t pipe up it’s all good. I just saw that UR have a new line of universal fit IEM’s. Prices seem reasonable i guess.
  7. Those are the 3 things that will make me want the new H4 over the old H5.
  8. Ive been researching getting a H5 or H6 over the past few days, mainly to use as an ambient mic on stage and to use close to the drums so i get a decent recording of them. Pretty much decided on the H5 and then i saw these new ones. All the new range have 32 bit float and the new H5 has a much nicer screen. Also BT controlled. Quite ugly looking though (IMO). Still not convinced i shouldn't get the old H5, but might wait and see how these do in reviews.
  9. Have you tried smaller IEM’s? I was in the same position as you last year. Not a song when buy where i wasn't find doing with my right ear. I just couldn't get it to stay in snugly. I have very flat ears. I tried a pair of Sennheiser IE100 Pros and couldn't believe how snug they were. I still used memory foam tips as i dont like the other types, but i can easily get through a gig or 4 hour rehearsal without having to touch them. I upgraded to IE400’s as they have a bit more body to them, but i have no itch to go custom anymore……well, not this week lol.
  10. I don even subscribe to the bass playing ethos 😂
  11. I also prefer X-Air, but can only run it reliably on the old ipad. Saying that ive not really spent much time with X-Air, and while i still struggle with MS, its been rock solid. Id probably want it on as a back up, but dont want to buy another license. I do have a second Apple ID that i just use to link work and my main one, so i could use that. The main issue with the old ipad is length of time the battery lasts. It can last a gig but i dont want to be worrying about it (and dont want to be thinking about having to keep it charged etc). Both my ipads have headphone jacks, so i run one or the other in to 17/18m for music, but i do have a stereo BT receiver as well that i can use. I also use my iPad Pro with Logic on it to record the gigs, so thats something else ii have to keep an eye on.
  12. Yeah, the thing putting me off is i dont really want yet another tablet, and im so ysed to ipads. I also have an old iPad Air gen 1 that runs MS well enough, but again it’s linked to my account. I have a licence for MS that is linked to my account, and i have an Apple music account as well, so my ID needs to be on the ipad.
  13. I use an ipad 9 for Mixing station. I was thinking id like to get an Android tablet though, as ive handed my ipad to a mate a couple of times at gigs to mix us, and while i trust him, it means he has access to my private stuff on it as its logged in to my Apple ID (i use it for music playback as well).
  14. Would they care though? Wanst he in a band before where other members did know?
  15. Since getting our XR18 I make sure everyone that needs a mix does their own, either using MX Bus or Monitor mode in Mixing station. I have my iPad controlling mine and FOH, but I can keep an eye on everyone's mix, but of Cours ei don't touch them as I have no idea what the mix is like. I still get calls of 'I can't hear the reverb' or 'I need more guitar', but I shrug it off and tell them that's their job, not mine. My mix is of course stereo, and I have a stereo digital recorder feeding the ambient in. I tried one of the mono mixes once, didn't like it and I'm surprised no one in the band has mentioned it. maybe I'm just used to stereo. As much as I really like Mixing Station, MX Bus seems much better for the monitors. it's a lot cleaner and works better on phone screens.
  16. Pretty much my route to IEM’s as well. I’ve got an unused Yamaha DBR12, love it but it’s mono and i was getting a few issues, i got a B205D that i didn’t like so exchanged it for a B207D ( much better sounding than the 205) but still didn’t get what i was happy with so don’t use that, brought a couple of small mixers on the way, and was happy with the Mackie i got, but it’s now gathering dust with the other bits as I’m now fully IEM’d up with our XR18. Should have just got that in the first place.
  17. You can even route a pair to the headphone/monitor, although they do have to be as a pair of 1/2, 3/4, 5/6. Are you sure the Aux outs get disabled when using them through the headphones on the XR18? I haven’t tried it but i don’t like it if they do.
  18. Cheers. Yeah, i can still use my P2 from the Transmitter if i do get connection issues. Hopefully I’ll never need to. I tend to have a good general mix, nothing louder than anything else, so with this new system i can effectively have this mix going to 3 other IEMs if the need comes up. Assuming i can use both Headphone outs at the same time, and I’ve now freed up the monitor out on the XR18 which can also take a feed from my Aux busses. I’m going to work on convincing the drummer to use my P2 at some point.
  19. Thats the point, they are fairly close. When the band is playing they don’t even need to be that close, so much spill for the other instruments etc, but its good to know they are as good, if not better (because of the EQ options) than the P2 ive been using. Maybe i should have done P2 Vs D2.4.
  20. I wouldn't over think this. The way they were recorded was quite different. The headphone amp comes in to play for the second version, which meant i couldn't use the same levels (and couldn’t be bothered getting too anal about it). Let your ears be the judge. I can dropbox them if you really want them though. I must admit i only get the stereo Aux because i brought the XR18 lol. Now that im using the actual Aux outs and not the monitor out, i could share my stereo mix with one other, but im keeping quiet about that for now.
  21. Here are two recordings. This is just a demo off my MODX, not me playing. The DAW version was direct in to my UR22-C interface. The Wireless version was with the MODX going directly to the Transmitter, and the Receiver feeding the same interface. It's not an even playing field but you can get an idea of how close they sound. No EQ used. Both 24bit/48khz. When I went to record this I had an issue where the Receiver wasn't picking up the signal, but after a re start it was fine. Something got keep an eye on though. Direct.wav Wireless.wav
  22. A quick pre gig (post soundcheck)review of the T.bone IEM D2.4 The bottom line is its great. No regrets so far. It arrived today and i took it to tonight’s gig. First impression was how small and heavy it is. Both plus point. It doesn't feel cheap at all. No idea why oi was surprised at the size, but i was expecting it to be a big larger. It feels very sturdy and solid. The display looks great and the easy of use is very good. I looked at the manual once so far, and that was just to see what a certain icon meant. Stereo spread is good, and the L/R balance control helps to keep things sitting where i need them. There doesn't seem to be any noise (i wouldn't hear it over the band anyway). S/N is quoted as >115db for the transmitter, >95 for the reciever. Not fantastic but more than good enough for my use. I posted earlier about the EQ, there are 4 types, but there is also 4 types of Eardrive as well. A lot of EQ options in the Reciever. I’ll probably keep these off as i have my Aux EQ anyway, but it’s nice to have those many options. All make a noticeable difference. So far we havent had any isseus with drop outs. We played 3 songs, and everyone is happy. One of my guitarists is trying out the Lektar i got off Amazon, with the aim to get oen for himself. He uses the Xvive U2 and he hasnt had an issue with using both yet. Obviously this is in an empty hall, so the real test will come later this evening when the room fills up. The only negative so far is the crappy PSU’s that come with it. Very thin wires and big chunky 2 pin. It comes with two and I’ll probably get a 3 pin PSU off Amazon before the next gig.
  23. Those are the exact two units we use in the band at the moment and don’t have any issues. I’ll have to keep my head down if suddenly they start to have them 😎😂
