Not to them, but some of us might take a bit of pride in playing something the correct way, especially if the idea is to cover a certain version. Otherwise it’s becomes ‘our version’, which as we all know is musician speak for ‘couldn’t be bothered to learn it properly’ 😂

Yeah, it's the sounding off that made me listen a bit closer. IIR this came out after the Commitments movie, which prompted a lot of covers bands at the time to start playing Motown songs. I agree, I think he played it wrong and no one has picked up on this before. Now im aware of it I think it's ok to play this, even though in isolation it doesn't seem right. I think this version is probably the version a lot of pub bands do compared to the original.

I guess my biggest surprise is all the tutorials over the past 30+ years have all been wrong.

Other than the Aguilar of course, what are the other two? Just ordered this pedal, looks really cool, and after a lot of research the videos of this are the ones I felt produce what I want. I know who Melvin is but not sure what those two preamps are. To my ears they all sound great. Cheers.

When I first started playing bass in a covers band I had to learn about 40 songs quickly. It's only recently that ive had to play them again and cant believe how far off the mark some of my bass lines were in places (on the whole ok though). And I played with that band for 15 years. No one ever said anything.

Recently got back in to playing bass and have a few gigs coming up. Ive had to relearn a lot of stuff, but surprised at how well I remember it. H2H is one of those ive played 1000's of times (we still do it in my main band where either play keys), but last nigh i isolated the bass from all the songs im learning to give me a chance to play along with the originals without a bass line there. When I listened to this bass line it sounded different to how ive been playing it. I check UGT and YT and everyone seems to play it the same way as I do. It's the run ups in the verses. E, F#, A, B that repeats at the end of every second bar. The isolated bass track sounds like he is playing G# instead of A. Cant believe it's taken me decades to realise this. It sounds wrong got me only because im used to playing the A. all the tabs and videos ive seen also play the A. Can anyone confirm the above? I know the audience won't notice etc, but if it's wrong its wrong. Ok so ive given up for now on this. It may or may not work, problly would, but at this price im not going to chance it until ive tried a few cheaper options.

Ok, i think ive got it all sorted. Got home from work and put a few drops of superglue in the slot while the kettle was boiling. Left it for an hour and re strung. Perfect!!!. I didnt bother filing anything, it just seemed to work fine without that, and i took the paper out as well. Im going to put some new stings on over the weekend so will have a closer look to see if it does need anymore attention. This will be fine until i can get the nut replaced. Not sure how long the glue will last, but as i dont change strings much im sure it’s not going to wear out anytime soon. Thanks again for all the tips.

I dont use it to recreate anything, and couldn’t care less about any amps from the past, i just like the tone and how it warms up my sound. Ive had the MKI, the MKII and have also owned the VTBass DI and Paradriver V2 over the years. I never pay any attention to the PR blurb that tells you how wonderfully accurate these things are, i just like what they do for me. In fact ive never owned any of those amps you mention, but yeah, most amps dont have a blend. I use the 1/4 out in to the front of a bass rig, or sometimes via the return. I have always dont this and know it works for me. I was hoping the FR might be a way to have my usual BDDI tone with a bit of Chorus and filter on top, from just one box. Its not a big deal, i was just asking here in case i was missing a way to do with without a dedicated Blend knob. I might even give it a go anyway and see what i can come up with. I guess at the end of the day, for me the BDDI is an EQ pedal that does what i need.

Thanks, that's a long way of saying no, but I appreciate the response. Ive been using a BDDI for a good 20+ years. I really struggled at first, but once I figure out the Blend knob I love what I hear. Used it was pretty much every bass ive owned. In all the reviews of the FL they mention the song soo the BDDI and VTBass, but this seems a bit skewed. I understand the BDDI sound might be there, but that all depends on how you use the BDDI in the first place I guess. Obviously this is more a personal issue, I just like how the BDDI sounds when I have my setting dialled in, but even now I struggle to use it if the Blend is all the way up and im using a rig ( I use full blend at home though).

Cheers. There is already a piece of paper in the slot. I was getting buzz from behind the nut a while ago and that cured it, but now i get a bit of buzz on the open E string and can see the string is sitting really low. Fretting at the 3rd fret pushes the string on to the 1st fret.

Yeah, but if the core tone is not what I can use, it's not worth the cost for me. I can make use of the Filter and Chorus, would never use the Sub-octave or fuzz, but would use the VTBass side occasionally I suppose. Without a way to back off the BDDI tone its not for me.

Thanks for the replies. The plan is not to fill the whole slot, just pack it out at the bottom by a mm or two, although im sure to get to that I will need to file it. I have the wife's baking soda and the glue, I'll get some sandpaper and should be good to go. It's only a plastic nut and if I bodge it up too much I'll get a new one fitted. Should really do that anyway but I need the bass at home for the next few weeks while im learning some songs for a couple of gigs in July.

Ok, i know the FR has the BDDI tone circuit, but most players i know that use a BDDI have the blend turned down to less than half. I’ve not been able to gig with it full up, but love the sound at around 10 o’clock. As the FR doesn’t have this control, does that mean it’s pretty 100% the sansamp tone. With my old VTBass DI i would use the blend full up so that side isnt a problem. Appreciate this has probably been covered but i cant find anything. The reason im looking at the FR is for the BDDI tone and Chorus. Otherwise i might just be looking at the SH1.
