Ive tired many Comps over the years, but this is the only one Ive really taken to. So easy to use. Very, very small. https://becosfx.com/product/compiq-mini-pro-compressor-pedal-for-guitar-bass/#description

Yeah, thats why I said final call. Once they are set up correctly then each band member needs to call out for more or less etc.
-
Believe it or not, Smoke on the water 😂😎. Last time i played it in public i was at school.
-
Ive always thought it makes sense for the band members to call the final shots over the monitors. After all, they are the ones that will be using them.

Oh down get me wrong, im the same. Dont like 20mm spacing, wide necks etc. Im talking more about those that say they HAVE to spend £1000's on a bass to get something playable, and then play something much cheaper. If you can use the cheaper bass, then you didnt HAVE to spend all that money. Not that it isn't fun, its just the false justification a lot of the time

Over the years ive read many posts about how player's MUST have certain spec's, its all they can play etc, and they spend a lot of money to get this 'perfect' bass, but then get a cheap bass to play pubs etc. I get it, but always chuckle when I read things like that. My P bass is pretty much irreplaceable, being a very limited edition that would be hard to replace, but if something happened to it id just buy something else. In fact it's me having this bass that has caused me to buy and sell other, possibly better basses. I guess that's the advantage of never spending silly money on a bass.

Ive got some of that day-glo tape, and have T and R in different colours. Less to think about. I also put a small dot of the relevant colour tape next to the input jack. Got all basses (😅) covered.

Line 6 have lists of what effects are included, you should be able to find what you need in there. No idea what Twisted is/does, but there are Wah's.

The HX Stomp has the Sansamp emulation, and I found it quite close to my 'real' one at the time. You can also do drop tuning with the HX. It's not fantastic, but I used this a few times in the past where a singer would want to change key and I couldn't be bothered to try and transpose on the fly.
-
Are you changing where you pluck/pick? I tend to move back a bit closer to the bridge when I use fingers, but mostly use a pick. I like the contrast between the two and dont change any settings.

I use my best bass for anything bass related. No point having a best and not using it. To me most expensive doesn't mean best, but I use my most expense bass as well (it's the same one in my case).

One thing to consider with effects, is the correct order to get the tone you want. It's not always obvious what goes first etc, even if you know what effects are used. In this case something like the HX Strop is a lot easier to swap the order of the separate effects than a wired pedal board. Personally id try and do it all in the Stomp first.

2 outdoor gigs in North London for me yesterday. First gigs on bass for quite a while. First was at the Heath street festival in Hampstead. Nice stage and good sound. I had my new preamp with me but didnt use it at either gigs. First gig was with an Ampeg combo. Really nice sound. Quite tempted to get one at some point. It did rain a bit but that didnt seem to deter the crowd and we were covered. Second was in a private estate in Highgate. We were supposed to have a proper stage but it turned out to be a Gazebo with a small raised playing area. No side protection at all. Of course, the heavens opened up as we were approaching to set up. Again, backline was supplied so this time i used MB 3x10 combo. I had planned on using a preamp with this, but looking at the extension socket, filled with rain, I decided I wasn't going anywhere near it. Again, decent sound, which did surprise me as ive never been a fan of MB cabs. Highlight was when the sound guy turned the supplied Tube driven guitar combo on and a firework display emerged out the back of it. Apparently due to the tube being hot, a tiny drop of cold rain had shattered the glass. Guitarist ended up going DI from hisHelix Stomp. We had a really good sound though. Thoroughly enjoyed both gigs. What also struck me was how easy it was setting up. Never needed any effects, didnt even miss not using a preamp etc.

Temporary bodges that just last the course

Haha, no, just an embarrassed bass player. The worst part was having to explain why i ‘decided’ not to bring the new bass that i had been praising 24/7 before the gig. I don't use the Squier much (its an original CV, other than the bridge and pups lol), but id say its done a good few dozen gigs since. -

Years ago I got a new Fender. It was lovely but I had some Fralins in another bass that I wanted to use in the new one. I took the Fralins out and installed them, and put the Fender's in to the Squire. Just put them in the bass, didnt wire them, didnt screw them in etc. Just storing them. Told the band I had this new bass and all were expecting to hear it at the gig. Opened the gig bag and there was the Squier, all in bits lol. I had taken the wrong gig bag. I had to secure and wire in the pups using gaffa tape back stage, even the wiring to the output jack. I was panicking all night that it would cut out. It didnt. Other than replacing the tape over the ends of the pup's with actual screws, the bass is still wired with tape holding the wires in place. At least 20 years after. -
Laney Digbeth Preamp vs Nux MBP-5. Ended up with EBS Microbass 3.

Christ, it's never easy is it. Ive now ordered another Nux. I had a rehearsal with the BDDI and I love the tone, but I have a few gigs coming up where I'll be using an Ampeg. Can't see the point of using the BDDI, but I do want a bit more drive on some songs. There is no way to add this with the BDDI without the blend being up, and I feel things could start getting messy. The Nux can be used just as a drive and without colouring the sound. For now this will work better. Im keeping the BDDI though -
I got a couple of those Spirits in white from Music Yo quite a few years ago for free (long story, cock up with deliveries etc). I sold one, and ended up swapping one for a B2A (and then sold that as I didnt like it as much). I still have one with the more traditional body. I really like the EMG Select pups on them.

The reason I got my first BDDi was to warm up my MB LM3 years ago. took me a while to get used to it but ive pretty much used a BDDI ever since, and I play a lot of varied music. I can see how the Laney would work well with MB, and I may one day try another, but im hoping to go amp less asap, and the BDDI gives me a bit more character. -

I guess I didnt realise I liked a coloured tone so much when I started this thread. I still think the NUX is much better as it has amp sims and IR's, but after using them for a few weeks I just missed the colouring I get with the BDDI. I dont go full on with the blend, but that too adds a little bit of something to the sound that appeals to me. I dont use an amp at home so I guess the 'bland' comment could be in relation to that. I really did like it, and think with a bass rig it might have worked, but the BDDI does the underlying tone and the 'something' on top in one box. As did the NUX. I think the other factor to go back to the BDDI was I really didnt want a main powered box. This bugged me a little. Not a deal breaker, but all in, I went with what I know works for me. Maybe it was just GAS after all. -
I was really looking forward to the Brandi Carlisle set, but, my god she cant sing in tune to save her life. What a shame.

Thought Amyl and the sniffers were quite energetic. Never heard of them before but quite enjoyed them.

Yeah, i was a big fan. Went to the first few tours back in the lat 70’s, early 80’s. Always had a soft spot for his music but it seemed to get a bit too off track for me. Going to see him in Nov on the Telekon tour, but mainly as a nostalgia trip. Love the old. Old stuff, not a fan of the more modern Numan. and WTF was the guitarist playing in the solo on Down in the park 😂
