3.
TC electronice to an app called the polytune.. it's very good ..look it up
He already has it ;-)
 4.
Yeah i am doing it exactly how i should i think, volume on bass at about 1/2 with eq off, set at 440hz +0 C, noise filter and input boost activated, either coming straight from my bass or from my mixer, and its just hopeless on the B and E, and as i said can't really detect the other open strings. Its fine for tuning at the 12th, particulary harmonic, but thats no good as i know my intonation isn't perfect.
Im not sure why you would turn down your bass and activate the input boost. sort of defeats the object IMHO. Hows the input level meter looking? Maybe its a bit too sensitive for your bass. I find too low or too high and it can take a bit longer to lock on the note. I guess its just not for you. like i say, no real problems here with my old passive 5 string, active Ray34 and Duck Dunn. Plus my guitarist has used it a few times without issues.
 5. I was all set to get one for my Duck Dunn but i went and sold it lol.
 6.
Thats classic. What excuse did you give when you were on talkbass whilst on holiday?!
Checking my work email lol. The girlfriend was glued to the sun loungers so me and my eldest son would take our ipods up to the WiFi spot for a while each day. Free WiFi and free beer, 41 degrees and a nice breeze. I guess i came back in too good a mood.
 7. LOL. At least its low budget GAS now. I was very saddened to find Bass Chat was blocked on the hotels WiFi all week. Just as well i had Talkbass ;-)
 8.
It is in facts a Squier CV Jazz which I moo'ed. DId you not followed the transformation thread? click here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=78623
I did look at that thread a while ago but had forgotten about it.
 9.
Dave, don't worry about the CV Jazz. It really is as good as they say. I played another new one the other day & it had the most glorious flamed neck I've seen on a jazz in years. These really are the new JV's! Rich
Cheers Rich. Its funny but im not really a Jazz guy but i am looking forward to getting this. Probably because its so cheap i feel i have nothing to loose. A bit OT. I had one of the original JV P's. black with maple neck. I got it for £199 at the Wapping bass centre when they first came out. I never realised they were so sought after until l i took it in to the Bass centre a few years ago to get it set up. To me it was a cheap bass that had no re sell value so i had never bothered selling it and it had been in the wardrobe for years (while i was playing keys ). I ended up selling it to the BC (probably got a bit ripped off) and got my first ever Jazz with the proceeds (a HW1). EDIT: Just found out the shop i ordered from doesn't have it in stock, even though they said they do (no, its not GAK ;-). Order cancelled and ill need to look elsewhere. EDIT2: Re ordered. Ive only been back off holiday for less than 12 hours, its been hectic lol
 10. Great story and that Moo Jazz looks outrageous. What model is that? Ive just ordered a CV Jazz and im hoping everything ive read about them will be true. Im not sure what to expect as far as the thinner frets go but as i love the banjo frets Lakland use im guessing they wont be too different. Ive been through some upper mid range (£1000) basses in the past two years but at the moment my only bass is a Ray34. I like it but feel i need a back up (and a change for now). Im excited about getting the CV but also a bit confused as to how i ended up coming down to this price point. No disrespect to Squier though, i think its more vanity. I do plan on upgrading the hardware, maybe put a Audere in it at some point but if it arrives before the weekend ill be taking it off to my gigs Sat and Sunday. I also plan on getting the P model as well if the Jazz works out.
 11.
Hi all With all my buying/selling, I think Ive reached a point where Im struggling to find anything thats better. Its almost like I expect there to be something I should be looking for, but it isnt there.
Exactly how i feel. When i sold my DD last month i was going to use the money to get a replacement. I was happy with the Ray34 at the time and really struggled to find something i wanted. Its not that i didn't see anything i liked, but i just felt what's the point. I have a bass im happy playing, why do i need to get in to even more debt for something i want rather than i need. I also didnt feel like losing money when i sell it. I work it out that over the past 18 months ive lost almost £1000. All because i thought there was something better. I feel ive had the best for me, and just didnt realise it. For now im sticking to low priced gear, at least until i can settle down (or bass chats shuts down lol). Now my GAS is budget GAS, and i feel a lot less pressure to get it right. I also see me going round in a circle. At least ive experienced a few different basses but i feel im going to be happiest with a passive Fender type of bass. Amp/Cab wise i dont even think about changing my rigs. They arent perfect but they do the job. BurritoBass has hit the nail on the head as far as im concerned. Its been nice buying new basses but ive focused to much on having something new and not enough time appreciating what i had.
 12.
You are joking right? Now whats taking your interest ?
A Jazz will be on the cards once i get back off holiday. I might hang on to the Ray34 though.

 14.
I know what it is. They all have a Ray34. Am I right, am I right, did I spot the pattern? What do I win?
Maybe not for much longer ;-)
 15.
I've just been looking at your pics again - The way the strings are mounted into the nut looks about right to my eye - Then I blew up the picture & realised it's not the way the nut is cut, but the fact that the groove that the nut sits in hasn't been cut deep enough! If you look, the nut is only recessed about 1-2mm into the neck.
I thought mine was better but it seems not. Still, it all works ok so ive no worries about it. 16.
I will get one of these though.
Me to. Nicest Jazz ive ever seen. In fact i had forgotten this was sold and was thinking about it at the gig tonight. when i get back off holiday im going to look oft something like this as a replacement for my Ray34.
 17.
Haha fair dues, got 45 watchers so far so hopefully it'll get what I paid for the SUB.
Yeah, it will shoot up right at the last min. (i will still make a bid though). Good luck with it.
 18.
Haha you go right ahead Dave, if you win it I'll bring it back to you.
when i say cheeky, i mean more of an insult lol.
 19. I might make a cheeky bid on this myself over the weekend. If nothing else it will help up the price.
 20. My first port of call is always Stringsdirect. If they dont have them then i look else where but so far ive not had to.
 21. I cant believe nobody wants this. After all i went through finding it for you lot lol. Slightly tempted but no, im off on holiday on Monday, well away from you lot and the GAS.......but only for a week.
 22.
So I should assume that this is a feature and not something that needs changing?
I did. Ive not seen a nut like this before so i assumed it might be how they are on the non compensated SR4's. No idea if thats right but i dont find it to be an issue. The actual gap between the strings and the fretboard seem pretty even.
 23.
I have just bought a Ray34, I am really pleased with it, however I have one question: The nut doesnt sit flat on mine, the E string side seems a couple of mill higher than the G. This makes the E string sit higher than the other strings I have adjusted the action on that string and it now seems fine. From what I can see the nut on mine looks similar to the OP's, almost a wedge shape is this normal? Apologies for the hijack and also if the question is a bit daft.
Mine is also like that.
 24.
IK Multimedia Amplitube iRig Looks interesting! I already use the StealthPlug at home and find that it works really well for quiet home practicing. The only pain of course is that you have to be near the PC! If the iRig does what I think it does, then it means that as well as quiet home practice (including altering the pitch and speed of music to play along to), you'll be able to have a pedal board with you at gigs! I'm already thinking I could rig up a pouch to attach my iPod touch to my bass strap, allowing me to control effects pedals on stage. If the price they're suggesting is correct, and it can do what I think it can do, then this represents mindblowing value for money! Thoughts?
Already on the case ;-) iRig thread. Software is due in June but the adaptor wont be along until July as far as i can see.
 25.
Again, thanks for all the replies fellas. The buzzing starts around the 8th fret on the E, A and D strings. Towards the upper regster, there are a couple of dead notes towards the end of teh neck. As they have agreed to refund me £30 towards a set-up then I think that I'll keep it, my guitar tech charges £30 for a set-up but if there's something minor that can be fixed here then I'd be inclined to have a go myself. To my eternal shame, I've been playing gutiar and bass since I was 13 and never once have I learned how to set up a guitar. I'd love someone to teach me properly as it can save you wads of cash over the years. Maybe something someone could organise - I'd definitley be up for learning.
Good luck with it. They really are nice basses. This is the video that really helped me with my setups. Laklland set up guide.
