1.
I would imagine the Sandburg is a bit like my ESP. Nothing special to look at but the most amazing tone and playability. I get the impression from Nick that his is like that and from other people's comments. Probably one of those basses that does not grab your attention in a shop but if you ever pick it up and play then you will be blown away by it.
Yeah, a bit like a P bass :-) I loved the PM5 i played a few years ago, and while i dont regret getting a Lakland instead i always thought i would get a Sandberg one day. I think im on a active bass trip at the moment and by all accounts the PM4 does active in a very passive sounding way.
2. Good choice of colour Gareth. White always looks good. Im sure the next few moths will fly by. Im sitting here playing the Ray34 now. The flats feel svery smooth. Its been about 9 months since i used Chromes so cant quite remember how they sounded but the GIII's do seem to have a bit more low end punch to them. I would say less in the way of musical overtones though. They sound a bit hollow but then im coming from 9 months of using nicks so they are bound to sound different. The reason like Chromes was that they were quite bright, i would say these GIII's are a bit duller but still with plenty of top end. Then again, they are brand new so i guess i need to gig them a few times before they start to settle in. They certainly make the bass easier to play. Ive also got the E string action down to just under 2mm. Coupled with the very smooth finish its now nice and fast.
3. I know what you mean about the sandbergs. Pretty plain and sightly ugly to my eyes but they do seem to offer everything i want. The Sterling is definitely out now. I just dont want a skinny neck any more. Still up for a SR5 though. That would offer me narrower string spacing and the lower notes. If i got one of those i would sell the Ray34 and buy a cheap P or PJ. Go one, have a sneaky play. She will never know.....unless she comes on here ;-)

5.
By the way, a guy in the wanted section is looking for a Duck Dunn. Yeah saw Nick's one. Although not my cup of tea, it looks nice and lots seem to think its a cracking bass. He seems over the moon about it. I totally understand about colour. Not a chance on this earth could I ever have a sunburst bass. Made it even worse when a non bass playing friend saw me looking at one and said its a bit country and western :) I'm just totally in love with my Warwick and really badly want a Streamer
Yeah, ive been in touch with that guy wanting one but im just out of his price range. But like i say, if a Sandberg pops up for a good price im happy to drop mine. I don't know why i dont like sunbursts, maybe it just looks old to me. My first guitar was a sunburst, maybe i still relate it to that. I must admit im not 100% on the colour of nicks PM4 but i could live with it. Arctic white would be nicer. Nicks has dots on the fretboard though, thats a big plus to me. You pay extra so something like that. Glad your still enjoying the Warwick. Still counting down the days till your SR4 is let out of the box lol. Ive just put some EB Group III flats on my Ray34. They feel really nice but ive yet to play through my rig. Im sure they will be great. I haven't really encountered that bright tone i always thought i would get form a stingray. Much more mellower than i expected. Im still up for getting a SR4. Some nice ones up for sale at the mo, particularly the black and maple one. For now though i dont want to spend any money on more or less duplicating what i already have.
6.
Dave, don't give this away, its a great price as it is. Have you seen this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85963
I really want a Sandberg now. I love my Ray34 and its still my main bass but i do miss the P tone as well. As long as i can cover the cost of a Sandberg ill be happy. As soon as a Sandberg comes up i probably will drop the price for a quick sale. Saying that, im really not in a great rush to get rid of it. I really would keep the DD but im going off the narrow neck. Apparently the Sandbergs have a narrow, but not jazz sized necks. This sounds ideal for me now. I saw that SR5 (and the first time he advertised it) but i hate sunburst or Cherry burst. I just cant get my head around them. Shallow i know. Now Blackburst, thats my ideal finish. Hoping one of the Sandbergs will come up soon in that colour. Have you seen Nicks one? This is all his fault lol.
7. My bands do it in A. Its playable but i needed the 5 string to play it correctly. It always goes down well, even though my guitarist never gets it right (most of it in fact )
8. Gimmie gimmie gimmie lol cheers nick. I always feel safer when I don't have to worry about batteries.
9. Hey Nick. Do you know if this bass will run without a battery in it (passively of course). Still enjoying it?
10. Has it been fixed yet is it still missing the frets ;-)

12. Bump with a lower lower price of £630 ono. Still looking for trades as well.
13.
That is severely gas inducing.
Yep, so much so that im now looking for one of my own now, and selling my Lakland to fund it :-(
14.
Where there's a will there's a way.... (20 years in bands, 10 of which with a trace elliot stack, Now using markbass but still no driving licence!)
Same here. Keyboards and now Bass. Ive been lucky though and have been in bands with mates. I gig with two regular bands now so i have two small rigs. Each drummer keeps one at his house. On gig days i get myself to the drummers house and off we go. I do get dropped back home or stay at the drummer house after gigs. Its been working for about 5 years now.
15.
I am new to Musicman's since only buying my S.U.B Stingray last Saturday. Anyway I'm off work this week so this morning after reading this fascinating thread, plugged my SUB into my Ampeg BA115 combo and thankfully my G string sounded as even as the other strings. I did'nt know that the Stingray had this type of problem I thought that they were problem free.
You probably wont notice it until you play with the band. Its not that its quiet, its more that it lacks the fullness of the other strings. I found this to be the case with my Sub and my Ray34. If you dont add too much low end boost, and dont drop the mids (on the amp in your case) or the treble you may never notice it. Ive checked my strings output using the input level meter in Wavelab and all seem pretty even but as soon as i play along to a MP3 and add some EQ on the Bass certain notes will get lost. I find its more so with finger playing than pick playing. With a pick it seems to boost the upper freqs anyway and i find this also helps. I also hadn't heard about this at the start of the year, but after some research i noticed it was a problem that some people had, and many others dont. When i got my Sub i was quick to test this out at home and all was well. But at the gig that night there were certain lines that just didnt come through. Even the band asked why i had changed a few lines. I didnt of course, it was just missing notes. Ive got live recordings that do indeed show this. Its like the low freqs dominate the upper ones, causing the notes to almost disappear. I find its between the first fret and about the 7th. After that its fine. I dont really find it a problem these days, i can live with it.
16. Now my XLs have gone almost dead its string change time. Ive used Chromes and TI's in the past on P's and Jazzes but never on a Music man. While im happy to get my usual Chromes ive been reading about the EB Group III strings. Seems like they are pretty close in feel to Chromes but sound quite different. I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on these strings. They are to go on my Ray34. They are quite expensive though so i might decide not to go with them. Cheers.

18. Nice one Nick. I sent you a PM before seeing this thread so just ignore it if you want to. Im with Clarky on the dots thing. Thats always put me off Sandbergs. This looks almost normal. It sounds like i may have to investigate a Sandberg again before i go and buy something i dont really need. As im going through a Stingray phase but still loving the good old P tone this type of bass seems ideal. You dont see many of them come up with the dots (and even less with the inlays )
19.
Beautiful bass. If only it was fretted, Dave_Bass5 would have that off you in a flash I think. Good luck with the sale.
Damn right.
20. Sunday night bump. Now looking for a Sandberg California PM4 if anyone has one but also a SR5 still.
21. If i can raise enough from the sale of my DD im quite interested in this. I wont say 100% but i really do like the look of this.
22. Nice one Wayne. I'd love to do this. Not a huge queen fan but i do like JD's bass line. As already said, most of its played on a P but a few were done on a SR4. You got one? lol Im sure for a small production any bass will work, just keep the slapping to a minimum ;-)
23. Red and black together to the hot connection. On my ray34 this was to the circuit board where the White lead was. The other 3 leads go to ground. On my ray34 this was just to the back of the vol pot. This will give you a pup wired in parallel and this is the standard wiring for a single pup SR. I didn't know any of this either until last night. Hope this helps. I spent ages searching for this info and couldn't find much on line. The wiring diagram can be found on the seymour Duncan website.
24. I did get a reply from carey last night. Although I had wired it back to front I re did it according to Carey's instruction but it sounded the same. After playing it for a while I am happy with the tone. My theory is that the nordy has a tighter low end and this is helping to stop the G from getting overpowered with low end and this helps it cut through. Could be wrong though. It does sound a bit smoother overal so I think it wad worth doing.
