1. I dont suppose you would sell me the spare D would you (if ive read your post right)? Mine broke and im finding it hard to track a single down. No problem if ive got it wrong. Good luck with the sale.
2.
I've got two Squiers so I'm halfway to a Fender...
Ive got three Squiers and as well as being quids in i feel im past Fender quality now :-) I dont get the Fender bashing on here. I thought we are above all that. If more people use them it stands to reason they get mentioned more. Seeing as the first post has been changed (same time the dummy was throuwn out by the looks of it) i have no idea what this thread is about, but it seems to involve a few digs at Fender. Quite childish really.
3. Cab sim is part of the amp sim. You can download the manual and have a read of that, might help with any other questions.
4. No. An amp sim counts as one FX slot.
5.
I played Wazoo's one at my place. Awesome! That is lovely Kev.
I played Wazzos many, at his place and at a gig
6.
I just don't get jamming, doing some turnaround bass line over and over while some guitarist thinks he's Eric Clapton, it must be even worse for anybody that actually has to listen to it. Mind you I come from the school of thought that says "if you can't say what you want to say in 3 minutes, you're saying too much"
Ive never played at one, but have been in a few pubs where there is a jam going on. Im sure its not the norm everywhere but it seems to me all you have to do is play blues all night long. At least, this is all ive witnessed so far. Im sure they are fun if you like that sort of thing though.
7. you can also turn off, or balance the cab sims as well.
8.
Let me know how they turn out man. I'm really tempted to go for the single P in my Lakland, not that I don't already love the Lindy fralin, just something different.
Ill be sure to post my findings, probably in the GBZ EMG thread on here. For anyone who wants more info, and some real clips have a look here on Talkbass http://www.talkbass.com/threads/geezer-butler-signature-pick-ups.1046730/ The new P will be replacing a Fralin that i already have in my PJ. Ive always thought i loved the Fralin but recently im not getting on with it. I was going to put a Fender 62RI in it (its in my Squier CV at the moment) but when i heard the sound clips over on Talk Bass i was very impressed. Im not after the Geezer tone at all, but they do sound a bit clearer than the Fender 62, and i find the Fralin is very close to that. Should be here by 8th May, if not sooner.
9. I love the look of this bass but im with most on the inlay's issue. Ive just ordered a set of the PJ Geezer pups. Ive heard a few sound clips and they sound very interesting.
10. Maybe Bruce was being influenced by John Taylor during that period :-)
11. I've stopped using my B3 since getting a 60B. As good as the B3 is of live use ive just come to realise I don't need various effects that get switched on and off. I use the 60B as a kind of rack unit and it just sits on my amp. Comp/BDDI/Exciter all on, and for the last slot I'll have a Chorus programmed in, although I rarely turn it on. I'm not sure how usable the amp sims are live. They sound good to me, and I use them at home via headphones, but I'm sure most of us would be going through an amp anyway at gigs., so it defeats the object of having an accurate amp sim IMO.
12. Get a PJ bass, put rounds on it, and use some foam under the strings near the bridge for the older stuff. Not 100% authentic but some of the Motown tone can be down to the way it was recorded and played, not just the instrument. Get the playing right and most basses will fit right in.
13. I much prefer what From the Jam are doing now than anything Weller is. Appreciate its all old stuff but FTJ have so much energy. I got the live DVD and would love to see them at some point, im just too lazy to travel.
14.
With acknowledgment to the scales thread. Obviously some are easy, 4/4, 3/3 etc. Or do we just follow the sticksman and hope he's right?
Never found i actually need to know time signatures. Im playing covers so just learn the song by ear. Could be anything for all i know.
15. I used to go and see Wilko quite a lot at the Sir George Robey in Finsbury park years ago. Small venue and I could always hear the on stage sound. Norman's playing was always the highlight of the night, I was like a rabbit in headlights when he was on.
16.
It wasn't on the original order confirmation, it was on their reply to my email about the cable being damaged due to lack of packaging. I won't be using them again for sure.
Ah, i see, thanks for clearing that up.
17.
I've just ordered from Gear4Music for the first time. Got a cable that was damaged in the post. That was fine, I emailed them and they very kindly said to keep that cable and they'll send another. However, their email to me about the dispatch of the new cable included my account password at the end. What the actual f***?! Now I have to change my password on a fair few sites (I have a range of passwords that I use so it's not all sites and nothing absolutely secure thankfully.) So if you use Gear4Music, please make sure that at the very least you use a unique password for their site. Emailing a password is the most stupid breach of security a site could do. I can't believe that in 2014 major retailers do this. If they held any card details on their site they'd be up for a massive fine for a breach in data security.
Is this a new thing then? Ive just gone back through all my orders and cant see this on any emails.
18. I limit myself to one gigging bass, so for me its all or nothing. I can quite easily get by with either of course, and considering most of our set is songs from the 60-70's flats work well, but i also like to hear those overtones as well. I thought Chromes would get that but i find thme very close to dead rounds, and thats not quite the same as a nice deep thump flat string. Im hoping the GHS flats will be "the one" but i know ill eventually put rounds back on.
19. I keep going back and forth between flats and rounds. I love the idea of flats but rounds seem to keep winning out. Ive got a set of Chromes and TI's (missing a D string at the moment) that have been on and off my gigging bass for the past couple of years. Each time i put them on and love the tone, but then at gigs i miss the overtones. At the moment i have a new set of GHS Precision's on and to my ears these are what flats should sound like. More thump than the TI's and Chromes, and very smooth to play. I do love TI''s for their lower tension but never felt they produced the thump i thought flats should produce.
20. I too saw them probably more times than I can remember. Very down to earth girls. They are still going, my girl friend was in a band with Jackie before she joined GS, really funny person to talk to (she was married to Midge Ure's bass player, another really nice person). Back then there was also Rock goddess. IIR the drummer was about 14 or 15. Very sexy bass player. For me the best of the bunch were Vixen, although I never got to see them live.
21. Bugger. More GAS now. As much as i love my BDDI i dont use it for drive or distortion, and this new MXR looks like it covers everything else. Looking forward to some real life reviews.
22.
i suppose i could have posted in there, but i was looking for background info and opinions as well..
Plenty of info already on here ;-) For what its worth i had one and loved it, although the painted neck took a bit of getting used to. It could easily cover the Motown stuff we do, along with the more modern stuff. Very warm tone if you wanted it. I wish i still had it now :-(
23. I think you have hit the nail on the head, it's your view. I do see what you are getting at, but sometimes it's just not possible to keep on playing. It's always better to finish the night with live music IMO, and if this means a longer break in between then so be it. If people were there to see live music then stating later would look just as bad IMO. I've never played a function/wedding etc where the break has been any less than 30mins, unless the schedule has gone to pot, so I still say this has nothing to do with them being unprofessional. If they had agreed on timings before hand, and they stuck to these then they did no wrong. I'd have thought that the organisers should have had other things going on between the bands sets though, to keep the momentum going.
24. I'd say if the band were told when and how long to play, and they stuck to this brief then they were acting professionally. As already been said, its not unusual, and normally out of the bands control unless the band are putting the gig on and calling the shots. Im really not sure why this thread is titled as it is, as there is nothing to show the band weren't acting professionally, just that the OP had to leave and missed their second set and feels cheated (IMO).
