Will do. I’ll make a new thread though, I don’t want to derail this one too much.

Yep, and its getting this first gig tonight. Last time at this venue i had the RS212 and no Gramma pad. Ive now dusted the Gramma pad off for tonight. Very boomy stage.

Exactly. No matter how good something is, if its not working for you it doesn't matter how well its rated. To be fair i felt the same about my BF BB2. Ive never said it wasn't a good cab, but it never worked for me in the same way the F112 didn't. Good, but not quite right. The F112 replaced a TC Electronics RS212. The F112 had a much better tone, but the RS212 cut it better at gigs. I guess a 212 is just better for me.

Yep, totally get that. It's an amazing 1x12, but its still a 1x12. Ive gigged it twice. First time was a bit of a disaster as far as tone goes. It was never lacking volume as such, just voiced wrong for me. A lot of low end and upper clarity, but I couldn't find a good balance to give me a nicely voiced low/low mid. Because its a very clear cab i found i was playing at lower volumes than I normally do. Sounded great close up, always loud and punchy, but in all the recordings i made of rehearsals and gigs the bass was a bit quite at distances and didnt have the same punch and authority. I tired different heads, and different EQ's settings but in the end i just felt a 1x12 just wasnt for me. I prefer a 2x12 for the same reason as you. I was getting there by the end, but it was a struggle going to such a clear cab. . With the more voiced CN212 it just seems to fill out the tone with a thickness that the F112 couldn't get. To my ears (and the band) the CN212 fills gaps that the F112 left open. The F112 is deep sounding, and smoother up top, but these seem to overpower the lower mids. The CN212 doesnt have the extended low end, but this allows the low mids to be a bit clearer, which is what i wanted. Ironically the CN212 is easier to carry as well. The F112 is lighter, but not by much, and it only has one handle. I live on the 3rd floor os a black of flats, with no lift. That's a 6 flights of stairs each way, and then across the car park. The stage footprint isn't much different between the two, but the heft of a good 212 is defiantly missing in the F112. Less real low end, but no one really needs that, especially not on wooden stages. Ive been gigging for almost 30 years on and off, so I'm well aware some of this sounds like i didnt know what i was doing, but I'm simplifying my reply. As you know i got it off Bas. He also had a CN212. I tried my best with the F112 but i just couldn't get on with it. I traded it back for his CN212. He wanted the F112 and i needed something else. Both very happy.

I've just traded my Fearless F112 for a Berg CN212 and couldnt be happier. Cant really compare it to any other cab in this class because ive not got a lot of experience with this class of cab, other than a Epifani UL212 that i hated.

I came across this on FB. Not sure what to make of the 2024X

I expect I'm going to be the first. Last night at rehearsal my Boss wireless system was playing up again. It's been sporadic and so far been fine at gigs, but ive lost conference in it. I think i need something more robust like a Smooth hound. Just working out the logistic of getting something like that, because the receiver will have to sit on the floor next to my Helix. I dont want to start using my pedal board again though.

Probably down to some miserable git who moved in next to a music venue, sleeps with the window open and then complains about the noise.

Hope Adam Clayton doesn't pop in to this thread and read the above 🙂

Just had a very satisfying rehearsal which I think will keep me GAS free for a while longer.

This one. https://youtu.be/hFR99g1ux0M

That does look nice. That bridge pup is very close to the bridge. Is that the norm for Spector basses?
-
Yeah. I know you mentioned it costs a bit at the start, but i waited until the video had finished to check the prices. Stupidly i was thinking around £800-1000, but the fact that it was neck through should have said the obvious.
-
Oooh, nearly had a wobble. Ive just been watching @Dood's Spector review. Had i seen the cost first i wouldn't have bothered. Not a cheap bass. Very nice though, but GAS gone.

With a band i used to dep for, the (very good) drummer used to set up at the gig (always weddings) and play like he had never played before. Very badly and out of time. He used to do this to wind the venue or wedding planners up. I saw a lot of horror on their faces over the years, My current band's drummer does the same.....only its not a wind up 😞
-
Yep, had it since before christmas. Luckily this one can be control with flu capsules 🙂 Tonight is the first outing (rehearsal) with my 'new' cab. I'm hoping all my GAS will disappear. .

Jool's Hootenanny constructive criticism thread
dave_bass5 replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
Well other than Rick and The Stereophonics I'm wasnt aware of any of the other acts. Ok, I knew who Stormzy was but have no idea what he sings. So far me it was new music. I still cant name anyone else on that show even after watching it. Yes its a crap show, with a crap host, but personally i can get past that if the music is good. So i always watch Jools, even though i think its a crap show. Ive discovered a few new to me bands from the show, but on the whole ive seen a pile of crap that unfortunately i cant remember their names, so bound to watch them again and moan about them again. -

So tell me, how can you know you dont like a set of acts you may never have heard of before, on a show that is going out live (ok, i know its not, but its the same thing) unless you see them? I get the whole 'don't liek it, don't watch it' thing, but unless you travel in time you have to watch it to like or not like it. With a show like this you cant predict you wont like it unless you know all the artists. I'm sure most of us tune in to hear new music, and many come away disappointed. It's not like a repeat or a soap opera where you know you don’t like it so don’t watch it. I put it on to be entertained. I liked the Stereophonics, then it went down hill from there. Had I known what all the acts were about I'd have turned it off right there, but i didn't know what to expect. I wanted to see more of the Stereophonics, so had to keep it on anyway. -
I think with me it’s nerves. I don’t drive so I go with my singer, luckily we live together and she is my GF. She is a bit of a lose cannon when it comes to punctuality and quite often we arrive at places late. That’s not me at all, but until we get to the gig I worry, because this part is out of my control. So for me getting to the gig is the nerve wracking part, and I worry about it from the moment I wake up.

Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
No problem. I have both and always use my Stomp at home with headphones, as it’s the most versatile for this sort of thing (although the FX works fine with headphones as well), but live I prefer the FX as I like how well it’s laid out, and also use it to control the channel switching on my Amp. I’ve been using a BDDI for years in front of my amps, which I tend to run pretty flat anyway, so for me I still have the same preamp that i used to, plus all the other effects if I need them. I tried briefly to use amp and cab modelling with my rig, but it seemed pointless as I was going through a rig anyway. -

Not in the Helix Effects they aren’t, which is what I was talking about. I have done what you do with my Stomp though. -
Sorry mum 😋

As much as i like gigging, for me the worst part is the hours before leaving, and the journey to the gig. After that I'm fine. I just seem to be in limbo on a Sat afternoon. Plenty of time to do whatever i want, but I cant get motivated. These days we don’t do many gigs, which suits us all. I could never go back to every weekend again.

Ah. That's good. I posted last year i was going to get a new bass, and i have the cash ready for it, thats pre arranged right ? 😎

Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
Had a weird one last night. Was playing through my Stomp, and noticed i wasnt getting any effected sound, it was just a bypassed tone. All the lights were coming on and off as expected, I could go in to bypass and out, but with no tone change. Changed patches, same result with all of them. I re booted the Stomp and all was back to normal. Anyone ever had this before? I'm not worried about it yet, Its probably just a glitch, but if it happens again i might be.
