Same here. in fact it's not only purchasing but setting them up that im left to do. Last gig (on a very small stage, there are 6 of us) one of my guitarists decided to put all his guitar cases on stage, right in front of a light that id just brought. other gigs he tends to kick them out of the way when he turns up late and has to set up his giant fan and pedal board. I dont think everyone in bands has what it takes to come across in a professional way, which drags the whole band down.

Line 6 - contact info for Uk repairs

In the past ive found that rehearsal studios normally have people (or someone) that can do basic electrical repairs like this. Ive had a coupe of pedals brought back to life like this. Just a thought. -

If it’s just the jack then I’m sure you don’t need an authorised service centre. -
Ibanez Pentatone PTEQ 5-Band Parametric Equalizer Pedal
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Effects
Im the same as far as menus vs knobs go. I loved the Q-Strip when I had it, and wanted to get another when I went back to bass, but they seem to have jumped up in price quite a bit. Was tempted to get this Ibanez at the time, but it still didn't quite match what the Q-Strip has going for it. The issue I tend to have is when the knobs are so accessible I tend to waste more time tweaking them. I find the multi FX type of pedals are more set and forget as it's not as easy to adjust while playing. I must admit ive kept the EQ flat on my amps for decades, so not knocking anyone at all, it just struck me that Pre amps are so popular, and a lot seem to offer not a lot more than some amps. -

It's funny isn't it. Here on Bass chat (and Talkbass etc) we seem obsessed with Pre amp pedals. It's like no one uses EQ on the amps themselves. Im just as guilty of that, and while I get they can offer more EQ/drive options, I hardly read any posts about built in EQ on amps. "Got a tone issue, get a pre amp pedal" Still not right, add another .Then do the gig with a basic sine wave rumble 😂 -
We have two of these on the floor at the side of the stage. Really impressed with how bright and how much of a difference they make on smaller stages. We use a bar set up with the usual thin LED Pars as well, and two LED par’s on the floor at the front. We got ours for £45 each during a sale. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CFHFKP93?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Maybe, but i didn’t 🤔

Why didint you exchange it or send it back. it’s not a common thing IME. I gigged with a few Squiers for over 10 years. Never had any tuning issues or failures other than the odd pot crackle as i sweat a lot. Even the late great Herbie Flowers used a Squire. Saw him play it when he did Ward or the worlds at the O2.

Another vote for the Squires. I’ve got on of the origial CV60’s and it has outlasted other Jazz basses ive had. Squier are well made these days and the necks are really nice. Id vote against the Sires. As much as i loved my frist Gen it was heavy with a chunky neck, and as the briefings mentioned preferably passive id say look for passive basses rather than active and not use it.

Same here. Not needed to use any EQ at the desk, although my IEM receiver has a few sound profiles so i do use one of those.

Yes, i use memory foam tips. While theSen’s are small enough that they will stay put, which is a revelation, i still dont get quite the isolation i do with the foam tips.

I was about to go fill in with customs as i could never get a good fit. I matter what i used. Tried a pair of the 100’s and they at was that. Well, i did end up with the 400’s, but fit wise these were exactly what i was needing.

What IEM system and frequency should I get?
dave_bass5 replied to bassace97's topic in PA set up and use
If standing 4 feet from a drummer you would hear him even if the IEMS were off. The way I see it is only2ms latency between the actual sound and what theIEM delivers. So pretty much both arrive at the same time. -

Id love to see where the Evri ones end up 😀 -
To be fair, my ‘stereo’ is mainly delay and a bit of reverb. I don’t have much panned left and right as such, but the sounds change too much when using mono, and I dont want to use mono IEM We tend to play small venues, and mix for the dance floor. Most of the venues have a stage that spans the width of dance floor, and we position our speakers at each side. I’ve walked to the back of the room and the keys ( and rest of the band) sound really good, and while even i can’t tell the keys are in stereo, i know they sound as they should. The only one sound where panning is used in earnest is the Arp on Hungry like the wolf. I can tell that’s jumping around nicely from the dance floor if we sound check that one. It adds a nice bit of movement to the mix.

Any love for the Yamaha Reface range?
dave_bass5 replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Other Instruments
I found out about these during the first lockdown. I was just looking for a controller for my son to use and came across the DX. After a few days I loved it so much I got a MODX, and that was the end of bass playing for a while. Problem with the DX is I just wanted something go could sit on the bed and work sounds out with. While I could get Piano type of tone out of it, I just didn't like anything else (loved my old DX7 back in the day, but after hearing FM-X, the old 4 operator system just sounded pants to me). Managed to swap it for a CP and found that to be perfect. I even got a travel bag for it. Of course once I got that i never touched the Reface again. Still sitting in the wardrobe waiting for me to take it out somewhere 😀 -
Well first off, i don’t mix in mono. Not sure where that came from as my whole argument was based on going out in stereo. Secondly, even the band commented about my sounds not sounding as full and clear as they used to when we used a mono PA at a rehearsal studio recently. So why would i want that to happen at a gig? Why would i want sounds I’ve spent time programming to come out thin and weak when i know they shouldn’t be like that? If your sounds work in mono that’s great, the audience is getting what you want them to hear, i get the same result with stereo. That’s great as well. The audience me left and right still get to hear the sound, just not as wide as those on the dance floor. It’s not like suddenly half my sound has gone. I don’t do hard left/right panning, just a spread when needed. Why have a stereo instrument and only use it in mono? Why do bands set up with a guitar either side of the stage if only one side of the audience ever hears only one side?
-
Oh dear, that old ‘no one will hear it’ line again. im sure you understand about phase cancellation and how it can effect a stereo sound when it goes through a mono system, so I’ll just leave it at that. The audience may not hear a stereo pan or bounce, but they would certainly not hear what i want them to. Also, on the odd occasion i have gone out front for sound check and got the signer to play some keys i can definitely hear a stereo spread, so it’s bollox that the audience can’t. They might not care, but it’s definitely noticeable if you listen for it. im a bass player so i can use as much left hand as i want, as long as i dont cross the middle line 😇. Anyway, id fall over if i wasnt using my left hand to stabilise me 😂

With the XR18 the Aux sends are independent of the FOH, so although I do more or less mimic the FOS in my IEM (makes sense to have guitars away from the centre etc), i dont have to. In fact we don’t have the drums going through the FOH, other than the kick. The ambient mic’s on the kit are mainly for the IEM’s and recording.
-
Although as a keyboard player i need stereo, the benefit of hearing a stereo mix of everything just makes me smile. I stand at the back so have to use IEM’s, but having guitars panned left and right (not hard panned, but almost) along with the BV’s, drums kit spread across the mix really makes a difference to how i gel with the band, and i guess i play better because i get more in to it. This holds true when im playing with my other band on bass. Bass in the centre of course. I know this doesnt reflect where the instruments are positioned on stage, but in this situation im playing to the IEM mix, not the on stage sound. I have read a few times, but cant confirm if it’s true, that some singers find it better to have their voice off centre in thier IEM. This makes sense to me, but i don’t doing so never tried it.

Yeah, i looked it up. I remember thinking at the time it came out it was a cool idea, but when looking for a new mixer i couldn’t figure out how it would work with modern day iPads as they have changed size and shape, not to mention connectivity over the years.

I wasn’t lying in my post above about using the built in WiFi 🤔 It has its uses in my experience.
-
Ah, forget the XR18 is called the X-Air. Not aware of a more basic model though, other than those with less channels. The X18 is the one with the tablet feature. Not sure what tablet will work with it these days.
-
Haha, never noticed the ruler. What a coincidence. The XR18 has a router built in. It does seem to have a bad rep, but I’ve used it at home many times without any issue. Even a few rehearsals without any drop outs, but as it’s 2.4 i don’t want to risk it at gigs as i stick to 5ghz. At a gig, and without a sound engineer doing our sound it’s pretty much set and forget as far as FOH goes, and pretty much impossible for the rest of the band to tweak while playing even though they have the app (can’t get a phone out and move slowed while playing guitar) so even if we had drop outs it’s pretty much a non issue. It’s not like we are riding the faders all night and it doesn’t change anyone setting on the XR18 if it does. Best not to take any changes though. Once i got Mixing station and figured that out i found the transition to digital very easy. I use my iPad so have a pretty large screen (compared to a phone), and have a layout that is very close to our old mixer. Whatever you use you will be good to go after a few hours. We use ours all the time, even at the rehearsal studios. It gives me the practice i need and gives the band the practice they need to plug things in etc. out bass play still gets its wrong, and everything is labels up and colour coded 🙄 Not sure what the basic XR18 is, just the one XR18 as far as i know. They do one that you can put a tablet in but i don’t think that’s as popular. Can’t remember the name though, might be the X-Air.
