1. Welcome to the site, lots of Edinburgh basschatters now!
2. Not sure what you mean by "Peavey isn't a name people normally associate with good quality gear"? IMO the opposite is true...
3. Hmm, I saw that add on Gumtree too and nearly phoned the guy. Seemed a bit too good to be true.
4. I've got one these and I've always used Elites (Roundwounds) on it, which I think suit it well.
5. I bought a new 55-01 deluxe (Suburst with rosewood board) a few months ago based on all the good things I read about them. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but the more I play it, the better it gets! The sound is naturally quite bright, but punchy and the 35" scale gives it a great tone. QC seems okay to me, no problems. I would quite happily buy another Lakland. I find it quite a chunky bass in terms of string spacing etc, although I have quite short fingers, so that's probably just me. Because of this, I may consider selling it. PM me if you're interested.
6. It is an awesome bassline and a top album too!
7. I remember my dad letting me hear this many moons ago when I first started playing bass, telling me "this is what good bass playing should sound like". To this day it's still in my top 5 albums. A true classic.
8. An excellent site Stuart and well laid out. The transcriptions are great too, especially the full Joe Frazier! Hope it all goes well.
9. I'm a massive Jamiroquai fan, from old to new but I have to say that this could be the weakest thing that they've ever recorded IMO. I hope the rest of the album isn't like this! On the plus side this is still better than some bands "best" stuff...
10. The Icelandic band Jaguar are well worth checking out, if you can get hold of their stuff. Very funky and the bass player is superb! +1000 for Corduroy. The soundtrack of my later teenage years!
11.
....Flea, but the bass vote was only given airtime for the end result. Business as usual then! And no surprises
Pity that, 'cos I really enjoyed the rest of the show!
12. Did you sell the neck for this. Need one for a Sabre with a twisted neck... Pm'd
13.
pook - Yeah it's the American Bass Player. No worries brother. It'll be hiding somewhere on the internet. kets - Much appreciated brother! 1997 issue must be just after their 2nd album was released and there's some great tones on that. Is he specific about a 'distortion pedal'? Thanks for your help buddy.
No worries mate! He's not specific about the distortion pedal. Kind of get the feeling he's not a gearhead... Kets
14. Nice bass! Too many strings though... Kets
15. I have a bassist magazine from 1997 which has an interview with Mick Quinn. He says he still uses his Ibanez Roadstar and a Fender Precision. He has an Ampeg head and SWR cabs, although he says he uses an old Carlsbro amp in the studio Effects wise, he says he uses a distortion pedal on a few songs, but most of his sound comes from hamering the F**k out of the strings! Hope this helps, I can send you the magazine if you like? Kets
16. Folks, I can confirm that this is indeed a top bass, and whoever buys it will not be disappointed. Kets
17. Still no takers on this one and no further trade's offered either, so I'll probably be withdrawing it from sale. I'm not really prepared to drop the price because it's worth more to me as a cracking bass and I don't need to sell it. Last chance...! Kets
18. I've added trade options to the original post. Looking for an amp head, no more than about 200w required, ideally a Peavey, Trace Elliot or similar. Anyone? Kets
19. More interest, but no offers yet! I can include a Gig bag in the price if that helps. Kets
20. Some interest so far, but no takers yet...
21. Thanks for the comments guys. It is indeed a great bass and Dave is a top bloke to deal with. The decal hasn't been lacquered over, so I suspect you'd be able to remove it without sanding, I'm no expert though. There'll be a thread on here somewhere that explains how. I think the new decal is a waterslide transfer, so it shouldn't be too difficult to apply (Famous last words...!) I'll have a look in the morning.
22. Evening all, Up for sale is my Fecker Jizz "bitsa" bass, which I swopped last year from Davetbass. I don't really want to sell it, however I'd like to get the twisted neck on my Musicman sorted, so it's up for sale to fund that. It has a Mighty Mite maple/maple neck and the frets have been dressed so it plays really well and is lovely and slim. The origin of the body is unknown. It has EMG active pickups and wiring with traditional jazz controls and really nails the classic Jazz sound. It also has black hardware with Badass 11 bridge and Wilkinson tuners. Currently strung with Ernie ball slinky's. It's in Olympic white and I've added a tort scratchplate, however the original brass anodised one will be included. I'll also include a "Fender Jazz Bass" made in U.S.A. decal, which I never got round to fitting. The body and neck have a few marks here and there, but generally good. Any questions, please ask. Edited to include possible trade for an amp head of some sort. No more than 200 watts required. Peavey, Trace Elliot or similar?
