1. Well done on the sale mate, surprised it took so long to sell such a lovely bass at a good price. You can procure a Jazz Bass now! Kets
2. To be honest, it did cross my mind. I had another fretless which I looked into getting fretted and the repair guy didn't seem interested. Maybe someone will recommend a good luthier in the Edinburgh/Glasgow area? Like I said, if it was fretted I would keep it, 'cos I love it!

4. Evening all, Up for sale here is my Yamaha TRB1005 fretless, which I bought it off here last year from PG tips. I've decided that fretless probably isn't my strongest suit, so it's up for sale to fund the purchase of a fretted 5 string. I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but it certainly hasn't seen a massive amount of use and is in excellent condition. There are a couple of tiny scratches behind the bridge and a small mark at the bottom of the body, but you'd really have to look for them. It's been fitted with flatwounds so the fretboard is also in excellent condition. It has volume, pickup blend and bass/mid/treble cut and boost and has a superb sound, aided by a 35" scale so the low B is tight and controlled. It's a lovely bass, and if it was fretted it would be staying. Pricewise I'm looking for about £330 including UK P & P. I'm also open to trades (Plus up to about £230 cash my way) on a suitable 5 string fretted bass such as Yamaha TRB5, TRB1005, G & L Tribute 2500 or similar quality. Surprise me... Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions. Kets
5. Sorry merello, but I blame Basschat. Previous to joining, I'd owned the same 3 basses for about the past 12-16 years. however since joining I have the urge to jump from one to another like a cat on a hot tin roof! My missus groans everytime she see's me on basschat now! Anyway there's nothing wrong with Jazzes... Kets
6.
this may seem an odd response but I recently tried to sell a 5 string version of this bass for £185 (didn't have as nice figuring as yours)...luckily I took it with me to a music shop and out of interest asked how much I'd get in part exchange on a new bass...in short I was given £250.00 trade and told they would sell it on at £370.00 (this is Andertons in Guildford). If you are buying new it might be worth checking out the trade in value as it may be more than you're asking here. Otherwise bargain price for a great bass! Good luck with your sale.
That's interesting, I've always just assumed that trade-in's at music shops were a waste of time, with pitiful prices offered. Anyway's it's all academic now, 'cos I've just had a PM from someone saying he's taking it. Not bad for less than 4 hours! Kets
7. Thanks Carl, I hope mine sells as quick as yours did!
8. Midiman Smartsync for sale, which locks a computer/sequencer/drum machine to a tape machine, i.e. a four track. Bought it to go with a 4 track which I eventually sold and barely used. In excellent condition, but no power supply. £15 posted, or nearest offer. Feel free to ask questions. Kets
9. Evening Folks, Up for sale is my Spector Legend Classic 4 bass in see through black with quilted top and bolt on neck. It has the Spector tonepump Jr (I think) and is the model with the EMG SSD pickups. It's in fairly good nick and plays well, having been set up recently and restrung with a set of Rotosound's. There a few marks on the back, but nothing too bad ( I think I'll try and Polish them out). It's a great player, with the classic Spector body shape and has a great range of sounds. The only reason it's up for sale is I'm looking to sell this and a Yamaha fretless 5 to fund a fretted 5 string of some sort, so no trade offers on this one please. I've priced it at £175, which will include UK P & P. Any questions please ask. Kets
10.
hey Kets, i'm a bit suprised aswell, maybe wrong time of year? your list at bottom of your post looks quite interesting, anything you fancy trading? If it wasn't for the fact I have my Ibanez SR500 which I have to keep, I would definitely be keeping the Cort. But because of the sound similarity's I fancy something different, I would also consider a trade against a tidy condition Markbass CMD 121p combo.
PM'd.
11.
JK put together a comp' album called late night tales ( a few artists have done this one) it is said to be made up of some of his influences, that may be a good place to start Tony
There's some really good stuff on it actually. There's nae Stevie Wonder though...
12. Oops, forgot the Brand New Heavies and Groove Collective! They are awesome and yes, Tower of Power as well. Didn't realise that the New Jersey Kings were just JTQ re-badged, you learn something everyday on here. Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned Galliano, they're not really similar.
13. Lots of similar stuff to check out, Incognitio etc. Worth checking out some of the older Acid Jazz stuff like The New Jersey Kings, Corduroy, Mother Earth, possibly even Galliano. Another one defo worth checking out( If you can find them!) is Jaguar, who are like an Icelandic version of Jamiroquai. Some top bass lines! The thing about Jamiroquai is that they kind of changed with the times. Started off very Acid Jazz and developed their sound. I think the Stevie Wonder comparison is a bit of a cheap shot. I'd be pointing the finger at other bands before JK I think!
14. If you give me a day or two, I could take a few photos of the inside of the cavity on mine or make a note of how it's wired. The EMG select pickups are standard and don't need power. Only the tone controls are active (If you have it in active mode). If you run it in passive mode it doesn't need a battery in it, which is the way I use mine all the time!
15. I can't believe this bass hasn't been snapped up, it's stunning! I'd be all over it, but I don't think I have what you're looking for tradewise Have a free bump anyway! Kets
16. I have a bitsa bass (Jazz) with a Mighty Mite neck (Maple board), although I didn't buy and fit it, it was on the bass when I got it. I have to say, for the money it's really good. It seems well made, with nice grain pattern and nice fretwork, although mine apparently had some minor fretwork done on it and it plays like a dream. There are a couple of slightly worn areas at the end of the fretboardm but then the whole bass is kind of well used. To sum up, I'd say the quality is better than Fender made in Mexico, but not as good as Fender Japan. Hope that helps?
17. Just received the new Brian Setzer album "Songs from Lonely Avenue" in the post today. It's on it's third listen as I type. Top stuff!
18. Ah Megadeth, takes me back to my youth! Remember going to see them in '90 when Clash of the Titans came to Edinburgh. Actually that's a lie, I only remember being pretty much deaf for about three days after it! Ellefson used to be a bit of a bass hero for me when I started playing bass, so it's good they're back together.
19. Wow, that is absolutely stunning! Best of luck with the sale. Kets
20. I've only just had a listen to these clips, so I'm coming into this a bit late. To my ears, the ESP with both pickups sound the best and the closest to a vintage jazz bass IMO. The American jazz is probably second and the musicman with the bass boosted third. The Warwick is good, even similar to my Spector legend in terms of tone, slightly sterile sounding, though that could be the strings. I suppose the thing to bear in mind is that some things sound great on their own, but don't cut it so well with a full band. To sum up, the ESP does it for me. Really nice selection of basses though and an interesting topic. I wouldn't mind a few other people doing simiar sound comparisons with ACG's, Overwaters etc. Kets
21.
Did one of the headless graphitey mob not build a similair bass but it was a big circular knob at the headless end to operate the moving frets? Again I think it was one off. Or have i done too many drugs? BB
Someone did something like that about 10 years ago I think, don't remember it being headless though. It was on a TV show and the guy demonstrated it similar to the video above.
22. The two single knobs should be volume controls for the two pickups, just like on a jazz bass. The other one as you have guessed is the boost for the active circuit. Bass on the outside and treble on the inside. There should also be a small toggle switch making the bass active or passive. Sounds like someone has been buggering about with it. The question is why?
23. Superb basses for the money, they seem so much better than the price tag would imply. I have a legend 4 classic, bought secondhand, which has the SSD pickups mentioned before and the tonepump EQ. I've heard people berate the tonepump circuit and SSD pickups, but I love the sound from it. It's great for slapping! The front pickup is full and growly and the back pickup is tight and funky. Again as mentioned before it has that classic Spector body shape, which is soooo comfortable, it just tucks into you. The quilted wood on the top of the body looks good too and the hardware is decent. Nice big chunky locking bridge, no Badass needed here! The quality of the fretwork too is impressive, and would put many far more expensive basses to shame. I would agree with RussFM though, don't buy new. Get one secondhand and bag a bargain. Kets
24. I love Telecasters, and that's a beauty. I don't have £550, but have a bump for a cracking guitar!
25. My old man has an original 60's Jazz Bass, which I love. I tried to take it home with me the last time I was there, claiming early inheritance and he growled. Is this what's mean by jazz bass "growl"?
