1. Yep - lots of people here gig cheap basses. I'm a great believer in "if it feels comfy and you like the sound it makes, then it's good enough" doesn't matter what the headstock says.
2. It had more neck relief than I have ever thought possible. Leigh Gordon said to me "is that a lot of neck relief? I just play them". After a fair few turns following a spell in a warm room, new strings and some TLC the neck is more where it should be. The body and neck (lemon oil) cleaned up nicely and the frets came up well with some duraglit. The bridge seems a bit strange- normally on a BBOT the screw holes and strings holes are roughly alongside each other. Here the string holes are low and the screw holes are up high - this means that the saddles are angled down undeer string pressure and so setting intonation inevitably raises the action. It is however in the same state as the rest of the bass so I think its original. It has strat type knobs as many early Mex jazz basses do.
3. I will, but I'm baby sitting at moment and it's not the done thing It needs a serious clean up, fret polish and Truss rod fettle as it's currently enjoying Jamerson degrees of neck relief. Got this case with it http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/geek99/library/case Has an orange tolex lining If I ever decide to move it on, it will be listed here first for fans to get first refusal on
4. Which previously toured with morcheeba. It has mojo. Anyone a fan. ? I'd heard of them although have never heard any tracks
5. Does anyone know amything about these ? Got it as part of an eBay trade - seven photos in all. Seems to be made of some kind of fibre boards - badge says "for fender" http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/geek99/library/case
6. Hotter than a carful of (female) pornstars, in Florida, in June Have an envy bump
7. An unmissable offer, thanks
8. I have some paste called "astonish" - would that work better than TCut ? It might take the shine off the laquer if uused gently and rub through where used more firmly
9.
This would certainly work to yellow it, as well as the plastic fittings (pickguard and knobs) Yellowing is the bane of another, slightly sadder hobby that I used to have (honestly, used to), collecting Star Wars action figures. Original 70s/80s figures are often badly discoloured, particularly those with white plastic parts such as Stormtroopers. The UV in sunlight is the main culprit.
Top tip - conservatory cleaner restores the whiteness
10. Almost my YOB Very nice Glwts
11. 960 euros? 800 pounds or so. You might get £550 if you were lucky
12. Yes thought so too
13. Some pics would help ? Specify jazz or precision would also assist - with the deluxe gig bg and case candy or not ? Do a search in the market place for threads selling them, and look for the sold ones and take 10% off the price asked and you wont be too far off. They're really good basses and thats a popular colour - whats so wrong with it that you need to sell.?.
14. To be honest, Mark Stoermer in The Killers gets by with a standard Geddy so I'd just get one of those and save your pennies, if it were me. Geddy himself also makes do with a passive Jazz to a simiiar design to the sig so its probably good enough on its own ?
15. I was thinking of doing this to my P a part of a very gentle relicing. I was also intrigued when Andy Till noticed the rolled edges immediatley on an US 2011 jazz bass I sold him. I hadnt known they were there, just that it was comfy to play. Any advice on sorting out the frets? (Hope youre still loving it, Andy, by the way) the OP says " it probably would be daft to attempt this on a bass with a maple fingerboard or any other where the fingerboard is lacquered" - I'm assuming that the laquer would crack. Would it still do so if the work was done gently with some wirewool ?
16. Yep - that's the badger
17.
I agree. This is a different issue altogether from the thumb one. The way to tackle this as stated above is to place the fingers very slowly and deliberatly onto then off of the frets.
Flying fingers is a sure sign of tension Read. "Serious electric bass" for exercises
18. I had the rosewood / mother of pearl version and it was brililjant. I regret selling it, and for just £550 too. Partner said she was happy for me to keep it but I wanted to free up the cash and pay it off the mortgage. Doh.
19. My Vintage Stingray clone has a very raw maple neck and its a sod to keep clean. I can suggest wirewool will take the glossiness of the neck down a peg or two if you do it gently with a fine gauge? Dont really like the green, but I do think they're good for the money, The nautral one looks good. .
20.
Probably - judging by the headstock it's pre-Fender lawsuit.
It is very fender. - can see why they sued
21.
I'd definitely pop along if it was in Northampton, could bring a few vintage Fenders and amps too if there was any interest. (I didnt see the original thread). Not sure if I'd have time to help set it up, I barely have time to sh*t these days, but would be happy to give my opinion and feedback on likely venues etc?
Wish it was further north - there's been two in Nottingham All the Bc Folk I have met have been very nice indeed
22.
The previous one was Abi Titmuss, and the current two are Emma Thompson and Victoria Coren.
Ah La belle Coren, didn't recognise her, or Abi as a brunette
23. Dingus, who are the ladies in the avatar ? And the previous one
24. You have to PM him to discuss ?
25.
