1. My better half has bought me one bass and encourages me to look in shops. She encourages me to have lessons. Our daughter is instrument-mad and loves drums.
2.
MIJ and CIJ dont have this hole, or any other routing under the pickguard (apart from the pup of course)
yup, mine is also without the CNC hole and the large route between cavities.
3. i have those kinds of fingers and a short scale five works for me.
4. Does anyone have the bass tab for this kylie track ?
5.
Not been to Bass Direct but Bass Merchant were exceptionally helpful when I was choosing a new amp. Nothing was too much trouble. Easy to get to, loads of parking, no issues with volume.
Theres a nice cafe (weekdays) almost next door to the bass merchant. The BM do have lots in stock. I've never been to Bass Direct, I must admit
6.
ah - that debra stephenson - wasnt she in Eastenders at some point?
7. No point asking for confirmation (although it's not a bad thing for peace of mind) as it would (if dodgy) just be an assurance from a rogue and so worthless. If there is no permission to sell, then the dad could insist on it's return as the goods are his and son had no right to sell. It is theft in this case. Youd still have received stolen goods albeit unknowingly and you'd have to make the son compensate you for your loss. Had a case just like this in my degree in law exam
8. yes, narrow spacing five string. I have medium size hands and short arms. thanks to everyone for their thoughts, I bought this Nice Thing - a short scale five string made by ProseBass, who I met once at the Nottingham Bass Bash in 2009. Sadly it is embargoed until Xmas.
9. I'm near mansfield - thanks for the offer and the tip

Thanks - have sought a price for some - waiting on an answer It's mahogany with a flame top - how highly figured is the flame ? Is it clear lacquered ? Not very clear in photos
11. Sorry - about £350 max as I have small resource-drains to consider

It's short scale I think ? What gauge strings does it take ? Do you need short scale strings ?
I've got quite clubbish hands and very much sausage fingers and I have no trouble with this bass whatsoever!
Yes sorry - I reread it and realised it was a dumb question. Any damage ?
24 fret 28" / 26" scale fan fret 5 string. Narrow spacing of 8mm - 9mm nut and 15.5mm bridge. Just over 36" in length , very light Neck is a 3 piece rock maple laminate , body is 2 piece mahogany. This bass is so comfy to play and is very small and lightweight. Don't let the string spacing put you off, even with my club hands it's a joy to play. I had my tech completely shield and earth the bass. Oh yeah, and it has through body stringing for extra tension. It's great with 1 humbucker, volume and coil tap and that's it! The Flame maple board is stunning with a thick Ebony nut!!! £300 is what I paid for it. Pictures here Jim 07739969811
Wow that is pretty - whats the string spacing like ? Been pestered for Xmas so may be tempted.
15. a five string with narrow spacing ? I tried the Squier deluxe 5 at PMT manchester and the strings are too far apart for me. Normally I play a CIJ 62 reissue jazz but can just about cope with a Vintage stingray copy as a four. New or used, dont care. Thanks
16. I have the SR16 but its not possible to link patterns to kit configurations. You have to switch the kit manually.
17. I had one this week too, place is five mins walk from work - teacher is actually a drummer I was having trouble with placing notes, counting and do on We did a fairly creditable short version of"stand by me" Which surprised me as it's years since I played along with anyone else
18. Can anyone suggest a good shop near the trafford centre in manchester? It would be helpful if it sold drums too as my two year old daughter loves drums and is quite keen on slap bass too. thanks
19. I'm not keen on my sr16, the programming steps are very clumsy and although you can set up Lots of drumkits, you can't associate them with specific patterns so you need to manually select the right kit each time.
20. I can read rhythms with a little thought. Not so god at reading pitch but I can do it slowly Andrew on here told me to count the smallest division in the bar and that helped - I see that as a kind of trellis to hang the notes on
21. There is a shop near me that focuses exclusively on tuition. Its five minutes walk from work and they're doing a £5 for 30 minute taster session. I simply dont have the time due to home commitments to take hours out to go to lessons evenings or weekends so lunchtime is my only viable option. I told him I want help with subdividing the beat, I tend to get a bit lost as I'm concentrating on playing the right notes ( i've tried practicing myself aginst a metronome and I''m not getting there) - i have no trouble finding the 1 each time (theres an online tester somewhere(Korg?) and I averaged 6ms off). Any advice from those who take lessons regularly?
22. if youre going for a solid colour you shouldnt need to do much except take the gloss off it with fine sandpaper. Obviously you need to be careful of the cavities as the paint might narrow them.
23. I like the ones I got from Matte_black on this forum - they are split coil humbuckers in a standard sized casing. They are very quiet and also nice and punchy,
