Could you wire the pickups to the rails themselves? Live down one rail and earth down the other ? That would remove the cable problem and you just need a trench in the pick guard for the pickup to move along its rails

By now, @basskraut will be having serious second thoughts about the chances of learning anything useful around here from wichsers like us I worked in a Vienna warehouse for two years; I know more and better slang than this
