Consider also “blues tribute” pickups on eBay; little known but very very good

I’d have bought a no-load tone pot from fender. At 10 the tone control drops out and gives you undiluted pickup

True, but plenty of teachers want you to play the songs that they know - it’s happened to me a fair few times it makes me ask myself who’s paying the money here …
