If they look metric, they probably are. US threads look a little coarser - like the intonation screws on Fender. Do you have one you can describe in more detail (length, number of turns, diameter, head shape?). A wild guess would be M3 countersunk, but just a guess. If built in far east, will likely be metric.

Strings under tension must be close to the elastic limit of the metal (else they'd never break, but usually break at a stress or corrosion point)

Some years ago I wanted a 1/2" router for general woodwork. got a B&Q special, suspect it was a Trend re-badge. Was awful. It went back. Then got a Dewalt - excellent kit. However at 1/2" it is a bit heavy for pick routes (have done one under a pickguard), but the 1/4 one in post #6 looks good. Expensive but worth it, don't want to mess up a route!

A little known fact is Joe Walsh invented Walsh Functions. These are a set of orthonomal functions which can only take a value of +1 or -1 being the digital counterpart of trigonometric functions and somewhat analogous to Fourier series can be used to sythesize almost any waveform by additive synthesis. He does not like to tell this as he's just an ordinary average guy. A strange invention, for an analog man.
