In my view the heavy amps are practical to use despite their weight. It’s the cabs that are back breakers. If you wanna go down that road might be an idea just to buy an old trace pre and pair it with an amp of your choice but sounds like a lot of ball ache to me.

Fender Vintera 60s Jazz vs Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz: which one?
King Tut replied to Marvin's topic in Bass Guitars
Personally I’d go for the CV (I have a Chinese one) due to the flatter fretboard profile. -

Wireless Distorting with High Output Basses
King Tut replied to King Tut's topic in Accessories and Misc
Not 100 per cent sure - need to do some further investigation. Can't be the amp as I was feeding in ears directly from my Stomp XL - So could also be the stomp or the headphone amp. -
Ive used four different wireless systems over the years and they've all seemed to suffer from some distortion (not the nice kind) particularly when digging in with high output basses. I was gigging last night with a passive jazz (quarter pounder pups) and even with that I noticed it a couple of times when playing hard over the bridge pickup. I'm wondering if this a 'thing' with wireless systems that we just have to live with or whether it's just the systems that I've used and need to splash out a bit of dosh on something better. So far I've used a Senheiser Freeport, Line6 G30, Xvive and currently on Lekato WS50. I'd be interested to hear your opinions and learn from your experience. Cheers.

Good choice, great amps. And if you do a gig with an SVT supplied, the controls will all look rather familiar!

It's two thirds of a 63 neck and replacement parts. I can't see many folk going for that!

I’m convinced it was the drummers cymbals that caused my tinnitus

Have fun, smile lots and look like you’re enjoying yourself. Try to make eye contact with the audience. Take spares. Act professionally. Remember that your job is to entertain the audience. If you’re singing, set up your mic carefully so it’s in the right position when you start and if there’s no stage have one of the three legs of the mic stand pointing directly towards you so you’re less likely to have your teeth knocked out if a punter bashes into it. Are you all using wireless? Have you all used your wireless systems together to make sure the channels don’t clash? Use ear protection. Tinnitus isn’t fun. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I’ve got a beautiful Epiphone Thunderbird 4 pro. It came with a Gibson TRC fitted. I’m funked if I could be bothered to source an Epiphone TRC just so I’m not playing a counterfeit. Anyhoo, it’s such a good bass I can’t believe an original Gibson would be any better. I’ll play it out live and anyone who’s got a problem with it can mind their own business. By the same token the last gig I did was in Sweden and I took a first generation Squier CV Jazz with its original logo. Again, if anyone has a problem with me playing a Squier (which is a better bass than some Fenders I’ve played) again, they can mind their own business! Ahh the beauty of getting older is definitely not giving so much of a funk! I would obviously have a problem with someone trying to pass something off as something it’s not. That is clearly wrong - most of us on here would practice due diligence in the transaction but I guess someone starting out could be taken in. Have a groovy Sunday folks!

Not sure if he was on here but Kevin Riddles, Bass Player with Angelwitch and Tytan has passed away. Bit of a NWOBHM legend it follows a cancer diagnosis not so long ago. RIP Kev

A bit of electrical tape on my old CV Squier Jazz and she's ready to rock for tonight's gig with Stray at 'Time to Rock' Festival in Sweden!
