  1. Just a bit 😀
  2. Are you using the bass boost switch on the Ampeg? If I remember correctly that adds bass as you'd expect but also cuts some of the mids out, that could possibly be the issue. Try switching the bass boost off if you are using it. Sounding great on it's own but getting lost on the mix sounds like classic mid scoop syndrome. If you don't cut out all the mids the bass won't sound so great on it's own but it will fill out the bass sound in the mix. The Ashdown ABM will likely have loads more midrange on tap, just don't use the shape button and don't EQ them all out again! I seem to think that the ABM EVO III has an inbuilt compressor, I've no idea if it's any good or not but it should give you an idea of whether one will solve your problem. Although from what you are saying I can't help but think that this is an EQ issue.
  3. I have a dodgy nerve in my left wrist (similar to carpal tunnel syndrome but it's the ulna nerve that's affected) which can make playing uncomfortable at times, I've found that a move to 30" short scale basses has been invaluable in reducing fatigue. I also use a neoprene wrist support, it looks a bit like a sweat band but has a loop that goes around the thumb too. I'm not fussed if it looks cheesy, I'm more worried about my own comfort I got the neoprene wrist support from Amazon, this is the one - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005BI6J8I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. It sounds to me that there might be a couple of potential issues here to address before possibly lashing out on a compressor. If you are losing volume on the G string it could be that you need to raise the pickup closer to the string to help make it louder. What bass are you using and what pickups does it have? Another possibility is EQ settings, have you got a big mid scooped sound? Dialling the mids back in will thicken out the higher registers. Anywhere from around 800-1200 Hz is a good starting point to start boosting but that will depend on your bass and rig.
  5. Funnily enough, I've had the exact same conversation. My response to the idiot in question was "Well you're the one who gets excited watching men in hot pants and knee length socks chasing each other around a field" The idiot in question went so red with rage that I thought he was going to explode but he just ended up walking off. Just as well as I thought he was going to beach slap me
  6. I couldn't find a feedback thread for @Carl G so I'm starting one here! I popped in to see Carl this morning to buy a bass from him. He's a very friendly guy and was very welcoming. The bass I bought was in immaculate condition and was at such a great price that I bought it on a whim (if my good lady asks I bought it for our son!). I'm more than happy to deal with him again and I highly recommend him to other BassChatters. Cheers, Carl 😀
  7. Daniel responded to a wanted ad that I'd posted for the shaped packaging foam that comes with a Helix Stomp (don't ask!). He posted the foam off to me as promised. We've also been chatting via pm and he's a friendly guy to deal with. Cheers, Daniel, I really appreciate it!
  8. Cheers @ped It seems to have sorted itself now!
  9. Paul responded to a wanted ad I'd posted asking for the packing foam for a helix stomp. He posted the foam off free of charge (i covered the postage costs) and it was with me within a couple of days. That's a big thumbs up from me 👍
  10. Around these parts a dUg is an animal that some folks keep as pets. "Arya seen air ole man?" "Yu' he's tekkin' the dUg fra walk then eez goowin um f' summu' twet"
  11. The Amps and cabs for sale section earlier today.
  12. You've got me there
  13. I think I may have inadvertently marked the Other Instruments forum as read, the forum heading and all posts under it are in regular, non-bold text. Is there a way to reset it to its unread state? I clicked on the Mark forum as read button to see if that would give me an option to change it back to unread but it doesn't have that ability. Any thoughts?
  14. Anyone else see the child's drawing of a penis just above the top left tone knob going up half way behind the bridge?
  15. Could a compressor help? Assuming that you're not already using one that is.
  16. Have you seen the Hotone Skyboard? It's designed especially for tiny pedals, details here. They are indeed tiny and are very well made. It also comes with a sturdy, well padded soft case. I bought one to help add some weight to my Tech 21 DP-3X as the pedal was so light!
  17. That's exactly what I was thinking too.
  18. Johan bought a Hipshot drop tuner from me. He paid for it in super quick time, you can't ask for more than that as a seller! Highly recommend chap to do business with.
  19. I'll give you a shout when I get a couple of hours free. Cheers!
  20. Sounds like it's a cracking little unit, Kev, I'll have to invite myself round for a cheeky listen 😃
  21. There's a couple pf shouts on here for the Chowny SWB-1. They are indeed great basses, I briefly owned a passive one myself and they are well made and the pickups are sublime, they have a great punchy tone to them. However, the reason I soon moved mine on was that although its a 30" scale length the lack of a top horn means that the way it hangs on a strap puts the first fret in around the same place it would be on a standard scale bass. Yes the frets are closer together but you still have that stretch to reach the bottom end of the neck as though it's a full sized bass. That defeated the object for me as I wanted the first fret much closer than on a standard scale bass! Something to consider for anyone looking to get one.
  22. Pink patent leather?
  23. Pencil me in although it'd depend on where and when and any other commitments I have, family, band etc.
  24. Anyone else think it looks like a deflated gimp mask?
  25. Congratulations on the new bass, Dave, the VM is certainly a beast. I recently let mine go, it was the earlier Fender body shaped one in natural finish with black hardware. Every bit as stunning an a pleasure to play as yours. The only reason it went was because I've got a damaged nerve in my left wrist that is making 34" scale basses increasingly uncomfortable to play for more than a few minutes so I'm moving exclusively to short scales these days.
