1. I'll throw another city that some people might think is the "cat's meow" in terms of gigging opportunity for bands.Nashville I understand in reality it's cool for celebrities established stars like Plant, Frampton, Joe Walsh to live. For a young new band looking for gigs I've heard it's awful. In most cases the bars only book acoustic duos. Blue
 2. We want as many stalkers as possible. We call them fans. Blue
 3. Interesting, I reference Milwaukee a lot which is a large city, but I actually live in the suburbs. We never do business in Milwaukee, the clubs and bars don't value live bands and don't pay much. Outside of Milwaukee is where it's at in terms of the better gigs and better pay. Blue
 4.
(grin) But then you IS a Damyankee, ain't you? Couldn't resist....
Yep, but I'm one of the good ones 😁 Blue
 5.
I can't tell you how much that would upset me and the rest of the band Blue if that were to happen, hence my posting the question when alarm bells started ringing in my head. Saddest thing in that situation is the fact that we'd never never know and never get the chance to square it with someone who took one look at us and just left thinking us offensive and/or assholes. It's become obvious that it's best avoided in the first place. There's a lot of water between us mate and it doesn't have the same impact over here but you and I seem to be in the English/American version of the same type of band so your opinion on the issue is appreciated, as in fairness is everyone else's who's commented. As I said before the flags are dropped. Les
Cool, Probably a good move Les. The climate is weird for me here in the most conservative part if the Midwest, me being a north eastern progressive. Because we're are so divided over here, I have seen friends, families and bands break up. It's sad. Me, music, playing it, listening to it, watching it and being around other musicians is the only thing that brings happiness into my life. I'm not going to get caught up in how insane it is over here and let it take the one thing that makes me happy out of my life. Blue
 6. People on BC seem to find humor in humping an invisible bear Blue
 7.
I don't actually but the singer has one clamped to his mic stand cos' he got hit in the head by a digger bucket and can't remember stuff now. He is blissfully unaware that you all hate him for this. Here's an innocent picture of it at one of the fascist fundraisers you all think we do on a regular basis.
If I walked into a room and saw that, I'd do an "about face" and leave immediately. That flag tells me one thing; "You're Not Welcome Here" Blue
 8.
Shame tho, it's such a cool flag and I'm uneasy about destroying elements of history to suit our agenda now. Isn't that what the Nazi's did?
That flag is not cool to me. You can read about history. You wouldn't catch me within 20 feet of that merch booth. Blue
 9.
This is an ex school bus and not designed for long trips. BB King used one for years to do over 300 gigs a year. There was a Motown tour in the early 60's that used a bus like that. They had something like 40 dates in 40 days and they had anything up to 600 miles between gigs. These tours were the reality of how how live music operated in the US back then.
Yeah, it's hard for me to understand how bands pulled off live gigs back then. Many were more recording artists than live performers. Plus just think about live sound technology back in the late 50s. No stage monitors, amps we're still in the infancy stage and I would imagine PAs were a joke. Blue
 10. Very cool and very un-thundercat. Blue
 11.
I use it in a few songs, mainly where the song is more bass driven. I use an EBS multicomp which does more than compression and TBH I really use it for the non compression aspects it gives..
What are the non compression aspects or capabilities? Blue
 12.
He's been depping for Bill Wyman for a while now.😁
True, Daryl might be the highest paid hired gun in the business. Blue
 13.
Scales are indeed useful but only if they are practiced in the right way. I have often come across people who claim that they "know" their scales because they can play them from root to root all over the neck, at a gazillion BPM's. Not a bad thing in itself, but REALLY knowing your scales involves knowing how chords are derived from them and knowing how to harmonise a scale. When you have nailed this, only then will you feel confident playing in the scenario you describe above.
I spent so much time as a youth learning to play songs, not understanding what I was playing. It's an awful mistake to learn that way. If the OP wants to learn bass, learn with structure and disipline. It might not be very much fun initially, but it will pay off in multiples. Blue
 14.
Have a lot if fun and get paid well
Amen! I thought I was the only guy that loves having fun, has fun and also likes getting paid well. It's part of the fun. Just think about, getting paid to have fun. Not a bad deal. Blue
 15. Outside, beautiful weather, 5:30-9:30 budgeted Church Festival Gig. Nice crowd and the band was playing at a level that meets my standard. I even ran into Frankie Carr from 60s hit makers The Critters. A fun night. Blue
 16.
I do wonder what percentage of an audience would be able to tell (or care) if a band member was deputising for another...Front person aside....let alone notice any musical nuance a dep brought.
Only to hardcore fans, if your band is famous with recognizable players. Example, as a 50 year Stones fan I would certainly know if Daryl Jones was not playing. But would the millions of "Johnny Come Lately" fans know, probably not. Blue
 17.
I agree, each to their own.
Yes, each to their own. There are guys that don't get Jaco. I say, " what's not to get?" Interesting comment coming from me, I don't get Thundercat. Blue
 18. It's probably in my top 5 fav albums of all time. Blue
 19.
Well I guess we're reduced to the bear necessities then. Fig.1 - The Paw Paw Fig.2 - The Prickly Pear
Those look like the fruit I use to pick off of some kind of cactus when I lived in Southern Spain. Very tasty. Blue
 20. I would go to the gig with your wife. If the band gigs with an unprepared guitarist they don't seem very organized in the first place. Blue
 21.
I was given some sage advice by a reed player with the RSC. Never get a dep who's better than you. Or blonde 😉
I would have to be really sick to back out of a gig and would never put anything like a vacation or other personal event before a gig. Blue
 22.
I love depping. Keeps you sharp, plenty of networking and if a band is really good it's a buzz. If a band aren't so great it's only a short term thing. I'd be perfectly happy for a dep to cover me in my absence as long as they have a professional approach. It's very rare that a band uses a dep that they have absolutely no knowledge of IME but it can happen and can be a worry. That said most deps I know are very good at what they do and put the homework in.
To many variables and level of gigs for me to comment. I do like the idea of being able to say "yeah I can dep for you guys on the 25th, my fee is $175.00 paid in cash prior to your show.". Blue
 23. In my neighborhood back in 1965, everybody was fasinated by what was happening in rock & Pop music. There were bands reheasing in every other basement and garage. Every guy wanted to be in a band, that's not the case today, so It's hard to find other guys to start playing with. The OP unfortunately might have to initially rely on YouTube play alongs and tutorials. The Hall Leonard stuff is also very good IMO. If the OP is truely passionate about the bass guitar he'll be fine. Blue
 24.
My previous experience of using that site has been nothing but total frustration, loads of idiots advertise on it, time wasters and people with their heads in the clouds.
All it takes is a few carefully chosen questions and its very easy and fast to flush out the idiots. Blue
 25. Is there really any inexpensive LED alternatives that can really do the job? Blue
