1.
Looks the dogs danglers Top clown whoring
Thanks mate!
 2.
Wow!! Bloody gorgeous. That pickguard has come out a treat, eh? Be keen to hear how this beast sounds... post a link next time you record something with it
Thanks Paul! I'll record something with it when it's done, may do a comparison with my '83 USA Jazz too, just out of interest
 3.
Nigel should have great 'pride' in the project but I wonder if it will ever be his 'mane' bass. # You can't hide your lion eyes.....#
OUCH!!
 4.
Really great. Superb vision and execution.
That's a lovely compliment, thank you!
 5.
That looks great! Getting mildly excited, too, as I have sent Howard my old Fender Musicmaster that he is routing out and installing a P pickup in, together with a new pickguard. So my new 'Mustangmaster'®©™ is on its way back home any day now.
Ooh, how exciting! Cheers Paul
 6.
That worked well! Would you and Horrid do one for me? I'd like it to be of Bill Turnbull. Thanks.
You have a very unhealthy obsession with Bill Turnbull mate, I think another sort of Doc is probably in order
 7.
That's friggin' AWESOME, almost makes me want to buy a Jazz and steal your idea - ALMOST Looking forward to seeing the end result :-)
Here you go Howard did a lovely job of cutting the shape from my 1:1 drawing. I masked the lion head design and sprayed it with matt black acrylic last night. I'll give it an acrylic gloss clear coat next week as it will need protection.
 8.
It seems to me that Tom Yorke is making this point altruistically - he doesn't need the money any more, but he recognises that up-and-coming bands don't enjoy the kind of financial stability that acts like Radiohead who became established in the pre-streaming era do, and is making that point on behalf of them. What no-one else seems to have mentioned is that it's not just Spotify who are the culprits here. The record companies have the choice to distribute the royalties fairly, and many of them choose not to.
I know what you mean, but AFAICS nowt's changed, record companies have never behaved fairly.
 9.
Loving this Nige! The Lion of Judah motif is a great idea. Very dubwise.
Thanks man! See below Uncle Horrid did an ace job of cutting the PG to my template, brilliant!
 10. We are launching the new single 'All Heart No Brains' on Cool For Cats Records at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston, London on Tuesday 12th November. https://www.facebook...74777212711155/ http://www.servantjazzquarters.com/ The ever-growing Cool For Cats digital club is pleased to add another gem to its collection: 'All Heart No Brains' is the enchanting new single by songstress and pianist Kit Richardson and we'll all be celebrating its release on Nov 12th at the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. 'All Heart No Brains' is a soup of twinkling glockenspiels and Moog warmth, with an urgent undertone of frustrated teenage naivety. Gracious and professional, catch Kit live to experience her complex and effecting journey that subtlety juts in and out and underneath ‘alternative’ and ‘pop’. 12.
I suspect that public sentiment is against a musician being able to write one hit song and then getting rich on it for the rest of their lives. Yes, I know all the arguments about intellectual property and all that but I reckon that, when it boils right down, most people don't think it's fair that someone can do something once and live on it for the rest of their life. Joe Public can't do that with their jobs so why should musicians be any different. I think this sentiment is the main reason why most people don't have any qualms about downloading music for free. Put them in a corner and read the law to them and they'll agree it's wrong, but their instinct tells them something else and that's why copying and free downloading is so prevalent. It's also why the same people will pay £50+ for a concert ticket - they can see that their favourite artist is actually working for their money instead of just sitting on a private island while the royalties roll in.
I have never once heard this argument, Interesting. How have you formed this impression mate?
 13.
They don't need to. They've got to the point where they can self-finance a record and sell it directly to their fanbase. They sold something like 350,000 mp3 copies of King Of Limbs directly from their website. By cutting out the middleman they're in a much stronger financial position than they ever were.
The biggest hurdle for any band, and always has been, is getting heard. Nothing has really changed because although the technology is different now, and the way people listen to music and discover music is easier because of that, musicians still need exposure, and getting it is still as difficult, if not more so, as it ever was. There are more diverse income streams for musicians and bands now, but to make any useful money they need people with influence to see money-making opportunities and invest in production, marketing and promotion. That's something Thom Yorke doesn't need anymore. I cant really see his point about Spotify.
 14.
So it's hardly news that Thom Yorke has a less-than flattering view of Spotify. Apparently this is his most recent outburst on the subject: http://www.hypebot.c...hom-yorke.html#! Just interested to know what people reckon on here.
What the f*** is a "dying corpse"?
 15. Firstly, it's a sadness that there were only 13 votes, you guys deserved so so much more for your brilliant efforts. They were all very good indeed, I voted for D though. For me, that mix had more vibrancy and balance and dynamics and the mix brought the song to life in a way that pleased me. The others were all excellent too, salut! I hope you enjoyed mixing the track, it's been really fascinating to your interpretations of it, having heard and played it hundreds of times Thank you !! Nx
 16. Awesome build mate!
 17.
Thanks man I'm very pleased with it overall. Yours has a much stronger bottom end than mine. Have you got the stock pickups?... I need to have a mess around with some EQ tweaks tonight.
Ahh but mine goes through the POD X3 mate But it's rich and deep even direct to desk. Yes, stock pickups. The pickups are a apparently quite sought after, 'Dan Smith era' as they are known. I have read the Strat pups are especially revered. I hope you get the sounds you want out of it mate.
 18. Rob, nice score! I adore my '83 Jazz, it plays and sounds like a dream to me. Hope you enjoy it mate!
 19.
I had to look up Neil Murray on Wikipedia and he seems to have made a career of being in bands I really don't like. Anyway, I thought this was a thread about Epiphone.
No, it's about Epifani init?
 20.
The trouble is it takes a while before a bass player is cemented into anyones psyche and held up as a 'god'. All the players in the OP are 70's or 80's, more recent additions would be Flea, Chris Wolstenholme, Matt Freeman, Fat Mike, all from 90's bands (yes they were around before but I wouldn't say mainstream then) but it's taken a while before the general public saw them as bass gods. So maybe todays most elite players will take another 10/20 years before they're considered gods. Maybe sadly music doesn't matter as much nowadays, it used be a defining trait of who you were growing up, if you were into one thing then that's pretty much who you were, you didn't get involved with other genres, it was an all encompassing scene, almost territorial . Now teenagers are into all sorts of music, the different genres are merged, this may be a good thing but I think it means people aren't as passionate about music so can be happy with bland dross were the bass isn't even noticed. And if you can make your fortune by playing bland bass in a band that's popular because marketing says it will be, then who can blame the players. I feel it's watered down because a band with a different style or sound come along and 'make it', then every other record label finds or creates a band that sounds the same so the originals don't stand out anymore, maybe it's always been that way but it never felt like it. I grew up in the 80's so I'll use some bands from then as examples, Madness were a band with an unmistakable sound of their own but other record companies didn't try to recreate them, Duran Duran, The Cure, were others, yes some sounded similar but not to the extent it is today. A band are popular and suddenly within six months there are a dozen others that sound the same. Obviously this doesn't mean there aren't youngsters who are passionate about music, my two are and I'm very proud of them for it, but it seems an awful lot of people are happy to buy music that doesn't stand out or move them. I'm a miserable sod !!
That's why I said 'in 30 year's time'
 21. I don't agree. All basses sound different. It depends what you do with them and what you put them through. The sh*t that gets done to any recorded bass sound bears little resemblance to the original tracking, so are you talking about the basses you've played over the years yourself? On their own or with your various bands? Maybe it's blinkered bassists thinking that certain basses are best for certain applications, I don't believe that.
 22.
...cos I don't think I could! What a job the bass player has in this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T39ZaFT1kA0
If you have a strong sense of time and you concentrate on your pulse, it's not as mental as it sounds. Also, a fair bit of that sounds written, as the sax is doing what the drums are doing. It's technically clever stuff but it has heart, I quite liked it.
 23.
I was young! I needed the money!
What for? The boob job?
 24.
Clarky, I told you that pic was for your own private use.
25.
[sub]Someone like this who has over 1 million views. Most bands could only dream off this sort of exposure.[/sub]
I'm talking about people who will have made a creative or technical impact though mate, we'd have to hear/see what she's really made of musically, at the moment we only know she can rip Jamiroquai while looking like your ideal new neighbour.
