Fantastic! The EMG is good then? Wondering if I should swap the EMG Selects for your EMG model in my Steinberger Spirit. The EMG Selects are not much cop.
Return Of The Mack. Used to play it in a previous band. Two notes, amazing groove.
I love that song! -
I'm afraid I'm starting to think the same way. I reckon Wayne (PunkDude) would be able to knock something up out of a £80 beater with a few upgrades and one of his spanky paint jobs, £200 all in and you'll have, essentially, a custom Fleabass which will look, sound and play better. I might try it myself and have a bit of fun

Very, very, very clever indeed! But I would rather spray a can of Servisol up my own arse than have to listen to it for more than 19.24 seconds. I get more enlightening and enjoyable sounds from my washing machine. I counter with this ..
That was Geoff Baker. He used to work in Maurice Placquet's in Acton, and sold me my first bass when I was 16!
Yeah, Geoff, think that was his name! Amazing! Maurice Placquet's in Acton? I've lived in or near Acton for nearly 20 years and never heard of that shop. Sorry, kind of outed your age there And mine.
Ahh Flying Pig that takes me back - cardboard boxes everywhere
That's right! The boss was an officious Hank Marvin lookalike, and his sidekick was a wheeler-dealer Muscle Car Tats & Piercings Rockabilly w***er that ripped me off on a Korean Squier Strat that wasn't all it seemed, live and learn.
Not quite I get my train in Charing Cross every evening therefore that's a lot quicker to get too, whereas to go to Camden I have to get somewhere with Northern line and then come all the way down to get my train home.
You should do a quick cost/benefit analysis of going to Camden then. It's worth the extra 3.25 kilojoules of effort mate, trust me
Dude, it's 10 minutes each way max. It'll take you that to walk to DS from Embankment. DS is essentially a retail centre, OK, there are techs there, and there certainly used to be very good techs there back in the day, but it is the last place I would go for work on any of my basses now, as it will likely be very expensive (those guys have got serious rents and rates to deal with, there's a reason a lot of the good/popular guys are in places like Hanwell), and I think many of the good techs have now moved out of the centre or town. C
Shame Hanwell only has Peter Cook and Unplugged now. Flying Pig closed ages ago, damn shame as I met a luthier there that was ACE! Lost his number a long time ago.
Ok i'm convinced I'll email Alex now and check when I can drop the bass there.
Let's face it, if you can be bothered to go to Denmark Street, you can be bothered to go to Camden.
whereabouts in west london are you working ? Might be worth asking Peter Cook guitars if they do set ups
Stuart is the guy at Peter Cooks in Hanwell. He does sterling work, he apparently put Geddy Lee's Wals together back in the day. He's done a fair few things for me and the work was first class. Hopefully he is still there, I saw him last about a year ago.
If it were me in your band I'd try to talk the guitarists into smaller valve amps at least. There's no need for 100 watt valve amps on stages smaller than stadium size. I'd have to agree that carrying 4k of PA and using backline like that is a nonsense...
Couldn't agree more.
I got so fed up with losing a decent bass tone everytime I added distortion - and guitar amp distortion is always better - so figured I'd mix the two. You may find that on the new distortion patch, you mighyt want to add a little more bottom - or take a bit of top off the bass tone sound - as I found that sometimes it can sound like two instruments playing as opposed to one integrated tone. I guess it depends on how you want it to sound, but try it! I had an e-chat with Dave Meros ages ago about how he sets up his gnarly bass tones and the X3 appears to be a simple way of using as little gear as possible. - I've just been taking a look at the Boss GT Pro rack and it looks like that does some nice 'dual path' stuff too - but haven't seen many samples of how it sounds.
Great advice dood, I'll bear that in mind and see how I get on. Cheers. -
T'is ok! Well, what I meant is that I use the Dual paths all the time on the X3. Tone 1 is usually my bass tone - pretty much I would say was the equivalent of a DI only signal path from a normal bass signal chain - ie - no mic'd cabinet sound. It's just what I prefer. I think Guy Pratt does, or at least used to much prefer it too. However, when it comes to adding dirt to the tone - Well - despite being virtual - I like to emulate the recording method of feeding the bass through a guitar stack as well and then mix the two together in stereo. Duff McKagan, Tye Zamora and countless others use this method. Thing is, to get that nice amp tone that I want takes a bit of fiddling, but I can get what I want eventually!
Now I understand! I'm going to have a crack at that, I'm not completely happy with the couple of maxed out distortion bass tones I've set up but I've been using the Drive and the Bronze Master. Don't know why I didn't think of using guitar amp overdrive. Cheers. -
You could also look at Crate Powerblock - 75W each side into 4 Ohms. I've got one - very versatile. G.
Thanks mate, unfortunately it only seems to have one input, I need two. -

Thanks dood. I adore the POD, only issues for me are volume balancing between patches and getting EQ right for PAs. Other than that, I doubt I'll ever want an amplifier as such. Superb bit of kit. You only use guitar amp sims? -

Gents, again, BC cures all The SRM350v2 are absolutely what I need! Got a similar powered monitor rig in my home studio but I hadn't even considered anyone my make stageworthy ones! Fantastic! Right, the reason I need stereo is because I run the two doubleneck outputs to left and right channels, but now I've briefly thought about it, I can still do that to the desk but route the 1/4inch outs to the speakers centre notched, just need to ensure the bass and guitar tones are volume balanced. Thanks VK for getting me thinking Not only is this a perfect solution, but it's also small and very cost effective. Thank you SO MUCH! Nigel
